flameboy Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 The same could be said for the Wii and the many forms of the DS. A company trying to recoup R&D costs? Ludicrous! Your missing my point slightly...They already make a pretty big margin off the Slim and Lite and now they are making even bigger margin off this. I can understand your point, just because we are used to manufacturers often selling consoles at a lose or minimal profit.
S.C.G Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Hehe love that pic of Shigsy holding the PSP Go, he really doesn't look very impressed :p anyway there is a chance I may pick one of these up but it will still be depending on how they price the games, especially with the console price being something like £200 or w/e.
Dante Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) Both Game and GameStation are offering pre-orders on PSP Go for £230. The revamp is to cost $250 in the US and €250 on “the mainland”. It’s out October 1. 230 GBP = 367.24 USD 230 GBP = 265.11 EUR Edited June 8, 2009 by Dante
Aimless Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I'd be (unpleasantly) surprised if it launches at more than £180 in the UK, exchange rates be damned. The only reason I could see for it being more would be to dissuade people in mainland Europe from importing — €250 currently equates to £217 — but given that Sony are presumably going to be making money on each unit sold I'd hope they don't go down that path. Actually that's just made me think of something: will the Go be region free? It doesn't use UMDs, only Store downloads, so unless regions are hard coded into the devices you should in theory be able to import from the US — $250 is around £156 — and then just use a UK PSN account.
Dyson Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 LMAO at the PSP Go costing £230. You could buy a DS Lite and a Wii/360 for that money. Ridiculous.
dwarf Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Yeah but it will likely not cost that Dyson, that picture isn't actually fact, just a pre-order a site is offering because it is fairly safe to assume it will be under that price at release.
Shino Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 LMAO at the PSP Go costing £230. You could buy a DS Lite and a Wii/360 for that money. Ridiculous. Wow, might get a 360 for that price from the UK! I'm still saying the Go! ain't appealing to anyone other than a collectors and geeks with too much money. A bit of a boost from Japanese sales and nothing more.
Daft Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Well I'm not, and a lot of people won't, pay over £200 for it. £200 is still way too much. I'll get it if my birthday subsidises it. Personally I'd pay £180 at most.
dwarf Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I'll think about getting one when it is £150. Portables really shouldn't be any higher, it's ridiculous when you think about it.
ReZourceman Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 So.....why do people actually like PSPs? I think they're kinda.....megashitte.
khilafah Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 £230 for a handheld games machine. Sony are crazy!! Flop!!
Daft Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Price is actually very fair given what PSP Go is. PSP 3000 is being sold too. So you have two options. Much like Nintendo, all japanese companies are upping the price on British goods because of the exchange rate. No it isn't a fair price. It is vastly overpriced.
dwarf Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Yeah I mean what? It has a small screen and can play downloadable games with a bit of bluetooth functionality thrown in. You can get a lot more for £230. But I will re-iterate that it will probably be sold for £180, just because that pre-order says it's dearer doesn't mean it will release at that much.
Daft Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 The PSP was launched 4 years ago. This has a smaller screen and no UMD drive. It shouldn't cost more. There's no way you can spin it.
Daft Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 They made a hefty loss on PSP 4 years ago. It was amazing value back then and still is now. In 4 years they must have got the cost down a lot. They now remove expensive parts like the UMD and reduce the size of the screen. However now they charge a crap load more. It is way too expensive. What are you huffing?
Daft Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Well flash drives really aren't expensive so where does the extra £120 come from?
Daft Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 £120 It's not about the exchange rate. It's the basic valuation, €250, £200, way too much. If you want to go along with exchange rate though, $250 is just less than £160. How on Earth can you even want to defend this?
dwarf Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 The DS by no means is bad hardware. Certainly not as big a cost difference for Sony and Nintendo to make the machines. If you are charging £230 (which I really don't think will happen - but even £180 is a rip) for a handheld it has to be bloody awesome and pack tons of features which it really doesn't. I don't understand the what you mean about more value... At the end of the day it's about games and hardware build comes way after that in my criteria. The materials they are both made from are decent.
dwarf Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Even if the build is as costly as you say it is, it really isn't worth it over the last PSP. It just doesn't have any incredible features, I'd rather spend money on DS and get a ton of good games for it. Even if the graphics aren't as good.
Shino Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I still don't understand the point of it from a consumer perspective. Its more expensive, does basically the same as the other one, the games they're pushing are still the same kind of home console games and if we're totally honest, the lack of piracy will be a detracting point for the mainstream consumer. There really is absolutely no point in buying this when the previous ones are still around!
dwarf Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) Piracy for the PSP isn't something that makes the mainstream consumer buy it. There's a fair few that know about it but it isn't a big selling point. Edited June 8, 2009 by dwarf
Daft Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 I don't like the nub being directly under the D-pad on the PSP. That's why I've never bought one. No one else seems to mind its position but it's just too close to my hand for me. It's why I wanted this but for the price that is being thrown about, Sony can forcibly insert their Go up their anus.
dwarf Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Well the positioning is weird but more importantly it's shite. I guess that's actually something they fixed with Go - it has had positive because apparently is much more usable than the normal one.

I have to admit I feel the same and find it quite uncomfortable to use. Any game that lets you use the D-Pad instead I use it...
