Wow, Robert Picardo is going to be a series regular on the new Starfleet Academy show playing the Doctor. I had zero interest in that show and felt very bitter about it taking a spot and money that could have gone towards much better Trek but I may have to watch it now just for him.

Looks like The Orville is finally coming back.

Scott Grimes recently performed a show at Star Trek Las Vegas, where stars of The Orville are often welcomed because of the similarities between the two franchises. During his performance, many like X's @Tyranicus and @ParksAndCons tweeted out that the actor made a comment about the status of his sci-fi show. Apparently, Grimes specifically claimed that Season 4 will start filming in 2025.

I wonder why it's taken so long to get another season off the ground?

I read an interview with Adrianne Palicki where she mentioned that Seth MacFarlane wants everything onnthe show to be perfect, so he won't let it go ahead without him checking every detail. He's got a lot of other things going on at the same time as well.

Kind control-freaky, but at the same time, it's a labour of love for the guy.

I'm catching up on the latest season of each of the Star Treks. I decided to start with Prodigy Season 2 and it's absolutely brilliant. While it's aimed at kids, it doesn't treat kids like idiots and there are some surprising connections (one of which improves another show).

They even managed to make a character that was dull as dishwasher into someone interesting.

I've not been able to watch it since it left Amazon. Shame as I loved it to bits.

Thankfully I get Paramount Plus included for free with a Sky Cinema subscription so I never had to pay. With the amount of Star Trek I watch though I probably still would have.

Hello, me again. Yes, it's about Lower Decks, how did you know? Just finished the final episode.

All I'll say is that at least it ended strong and didn't have so many series, that it got stale. Silver linings and all that. I will miss it though, and something tells me we're not gonna get another comedic take on the series, so back I go to my old life of not having any interest in Star Trek stuff.

@Glen-i you might like the episode of Strange New Worlds where Boimler and Mariner show up in live action

Yeah, I already saw that around when it came out. Fun idea, granted I had to have a lot of context explained to me about the actual show before hand, and how it was set in the past.

You know, the past relative to most Star Trek shows.

That's probably why I enjoyed Lower Decks so much. It's still funny, even with my barely there knowledge of Star Trek. The comedy doesn't solely rely on references, it's got a strong cast, and the ridiculous situations they get up to help to make it entertaining to anyone even remotely interested in Sci-Fi really.

I think it's a shame it's over, I get Star Trek is meant to be a mostly serious show, and that's fine, but Lower Decks filled a really nice niche that the series could use. A comedic spin-off was a great idea, just a pity it didn't last longer.

Granted, 5 seasons is not a bad run these days, and at least it got a satisfying conclusion. So I can't complain too much.

There is another comedy spin-off in the works, this time live action. All we know is that it's about some people on a resort planet who find out that their lives are bring broadcast, and that Tawny Newsome (who played Mariner) is writing for it.

I do wish that we had more than 10 episodes of a classic "ship exploring" show every one or two years, but do like that they're experimenting. I'm quite curious about Starfleet Academy, which should be something easy for people who don't know anything about Trek to get into, but is then also set in the Discovery far future and has The Doctor from Voyager as a main character.

If you want light hearted Trek that's entertaining, then Star Trek Prodigy is well worth checking out, and gets by with the strength of the characters.

Again, I saw some episodes of this (Dcubed's brother is a massive Trek nerd). It was fine. Clearly more aimed at younger viewers, which again, is great that the series is trying new ways of making programmes, but not really something I'd enjoy enough to commit to.
