Stocka Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php(que)id=129791 In a recent interview with Reuters, Gates has spoken of Microsoft's long-term commitment to the console gaming scene, stating that even if the company doesn't take the console top-spot this time around, it's just going to keep on trying until it does. "We'll play again. We learned a lot in the first round," he said. "We've got a chance not just to have higher market share, but also to grow the size of this market substantially." Gates moved on to fire a salvo at Microsoft's key opponent. Speaking about PS3, he said: "In terms of how we've balanced technology in the machine, we feel certain we've done a better job than Sony", although added that "You won't really know that until a year from now, when people are talking about how the games on our machines compared to the games on Sony's machines."
MunKy Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 What an arrogant prick. I dont know whos worse, him or Kuturagi. Expect a swift response from Sony.
mike-zim Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 i like it. sony and microsoft trying to out do eachother while nintendo sneak in and steal a greater market share. excellent.
Sarka Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 That's a bit big headed, well more than a bit. He should wait til the PS3 comes out, and I doubt they can expand the console market, if anything I think that Microsoft will shrink it.
Innovance Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I dont think hes being arrogant depends on how you look at it tho i guess. But the key word for me in their is "BALANCED" !!! From developer comments and looking at the hardware and sony's track record, id say im inclined to believe Mr Gates till proven otherwise. Its also interesting how no mention of nintendo was made (in relation to that comment). Now i know they dont feel threatened by nintendo. But saying our competitors would make you look better but i guess you could argue it for against either wasy as sony is home console market leader
dukkadukka Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 i like it. sony and microsoft trying to out do eachother while nintendo sneak in and steal a greater market share. excellent. bitch, please! we haven't even seen a single revolution game, stop talking silly.
Hellfire Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 We haven't seen the final PS3, but it certainly seems that 360 is more balanced. I also think they've learned something from their first round. First, the controller is much better, second, the option of buying or not buying a hard drive (which might have some negative implications) and they've realized the importance of design to the market (even though I don't like 360's design). Still, I don't think that as a whole it's a balanced machine, but I'm impressed nonetheless. They aren't expanding the market however, they're just fusing different markets together, it's not a gaming machine, it's a multimedia device. As far as expanding the market, Nintendo takes the crown, at least in theory.
Ashley Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Well its not liek hes gonna say "You know what, we did a bit crap." is it? Ignore them, just play and decide yourself (if you can get a console).
AshMat Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Bill could at least say, well we didnt do as well ias i had expected, i was dissapointed
Bren Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 How can he say he did worse than expected? its completely sold out through pre-orders. Thats something to be proud of, and the stocks a lil short, that means more people waiting, but a lot more intrest in it, meaning a lot more dollar. But yeh, he sucks letting down so many.

Of course they sold out, they has few 360s available, probably on purpose, it's a very common strategy. We'll only know if it's successful when there are normal amounts of 360s in stores and in a few months.
1UP Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 How can you say he's big headed. look what sony said: Here are some alternative interpretations for your cognitive pleasure: 1. Only a few days before Microsoft’s 360 launch, Sony says: “Hey, we still make game consoles. Give us our due.†Free publicity is always nice. 2. â€Look, Sony isn’t going anywhere. We are the leaders, and it will stay that way. You want the best games, buy PlayStation.†3. â€If you want the best gaming technology, we got you covered for the next decade.†4. â€Let’s start a repeat of the insanely successful PS2 hype machine. Why not now?†What do you think? Which manufacturer do you feel holds the marketing advantage this time around?
RoadKill Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 What an arrogant prick. I dont know whos worse, him or Kuturagi. Expect a swift response from Sony. Thing is Bill Gates is correct from a technical standpoint. The Xbox 360's CPU is less specialised and much simpler than the Cell in PS3 and as thus is easier to get used to.
demonmike04 Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I agree that they have done a better job with somethings, espeacily the Development tools, many developers have praised this and said its far easier to make games for 360 that the PS3. But overall, you have not. You boasted graphics at the MTV launched, you got your ass kicked and sawn off with a chainsaw when Sony revealed theirs. You revealed your top upcoming games, Sony need not to threat and just showed the minor titles and still kicked your ass. 360 is getting bad press, PS3 has had some, but not the same problems you have. Better job? In somethings, not all of them. But then again, you dont usualy mention that once you done a good job, a company has outdone in, weres the point in that?
Zero Seven Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 i like it. sony and microsoft trying to out do eachother while nintendo sneak in and steal a greater market share. excellent. Microsoft and Sony may be concentrating on each other more than they are concentrating on Nintendo but they certainly havent forgot the big N!
Choze Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 We need to see figures first. No doubt the launch is big but its the long term that matters. Certainly Sony seem to have it in the bag. Most of the peopel buying a xbox 360 already were big xbox fans.
