Happenstance Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 As long as it's easy to cancel and reactivate your account of course. With wow it's just clicking cancel but for some others you have to ring and go through crap on the phone before you can cancel.
Daft Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 I suspect you'll just do it through the PSN store. On the PS3. You getting it on PS3? PS3 and PC players play on the same servers, right?
Happenstance Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I thought I remembered reading that PC and PS3 players could play together but I haven't seen it mentioned in a while. I'll be getting the PS3 version, I would have prefered to get the PC one but my laptop us nowhere bear good enough to run it. DC Universe Online UK pricing confirmed It'll cost UK PC and PlayStation 3 gamers £9.99 a month to play superhero MMO DC Universe Online, Sony Online Entertainment has confirmed to Eurogamer. A three-month subscription costs £27.99. A six-month sub sets you back £49.99. As previously announced, there will be no annual or lifetime subscription plan for the PS3 version "at launch". On PC, a 12 month subscription costs £89.99, and a lifetime subscription £129.99. Both the PC and PS3 versions of the game will be sold for £39.99 in shops, and both come with a free 30-day subscription. DC Universe Online will launch in the UK on 14th January 2011. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-22-dc-universe-online-uk-pricing-confirmed
Happenstance Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Games out next week then, whos decided if theyre getting it then? I will be but it may have to be the week after.
Daft Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 I would have but I haven't played it for about two weeks. So, if I do get it, I'll get it later when it's cheaper.
flameboy Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 when does the beta end? I've only just got back and not tried it yet?
Happenstance Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 DC Universe beta ends with a bang PC and PlayStation 3 MMO DC Universe will end its beta today for US gamers and tomorrow for European gamers, but not without one last bang. Sony Online Entertainment plans to stage The Battle of the Legends event in-game. Beta players can align and fight alongside or against some of DC Comics' superheroes and villains as they go at it, including Batman, Superman, Lex Luthor and The Joker. All you have to do is show up to the battle when it erupts on your server. SOE detailed the server names, dates, times and locations over on its official forum. DC Universe Online launches in the UK next Friday. It'll cost UK PC and PlayStation 3 gamers £9.99 a month to play. A three-month subscription costs £27.99. A six-month sub sets you back £49.99. There will be no annual or lifetime subscription plan for the PS3 version "at launch". On PC, a 12 month subscription costs £89.99, and a lifetime subscription £129.99. Both the PC and PS3 versions of the game will be sold for £39.99 in shops, and both come with a free 30-day subscription. Thanks to reader Liam Brown for the heads-up. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-01-05-dc-universe-beta-ends-with-a-bang Sounds like it should be good
ReZourceman Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Wait....paid subscription? WTF is that shit. Sorry why do MMO's have paid subscriptions.......
Happenstance Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 What, you mean you didnt know it was gonna be a paid subscription? I even posted the pricing in this thread not that long ago. MMOs have to cover server costs etc
ReZourceman Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Yeah I must have not realised. Thats stupid. Don't all multiplayer games have to cover server costs. I may play it for a month or two. £10 is steep.
Happenstance Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Unfortunately thats just the way things are, most MMOs charge a subscription fee
Dan_Dare Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Wait....paid subscription? WTF is that shit. Sorry why do MMO's have paid subscriptions....... It's mostly about content and patches. I play WOW and that gets a balance patch once a month or so, plus content patches every three months I think (each one being pretty huge, story driven and more like expansion packs for other games). It's not so much that you're paying for servers per se, but that the game constantly evolves and expands as you play.
flameboy Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Yeah I must have not realised. Thats stupid. Don't all multiplayer games have to cover server costs. I may play it for a month or two. £10 is steep. Think though the costs associated with running a MMO server are much more so than a game thats played with only like whatever 16 players in a shooter. Also you do pay server costs with a XBL subscription and arguably Playstation Plus fees and Home transactions all go into Sony's pot
McPhee Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I'll wait for the game to come down in price. Paying £39.99 for the game, then £9.99/month is a bit steep really. If I don't like it then I stand to loose a good £20-£25 selling it on because the initial 30-day sub will be gone.
Choze Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Going to get this but still undecided between PC or PS3. Obviously on PS3 you can cheat the pricing abit by geting psn cards cheaper but i mainly care about the experience. On Ps3 its shared with others easier whole on PC i get better graphics etc. Controls seem to be subjective as PS3 is pretty good for this type of game. So still undecided. Sub isnt an issue. You technically save cash by not playing/buying other games Plus like WOW you will take extended breaks now and again. I'll wait for the game to come down in price. Paying £39.99 for the game, then £9.99/month is a bit steep really. If I don't like it then I stand to loose a good £20-£25 selling it on because the initial 30-day sub will be gone. I am pretty sure everyone will get the first 30 days no matter what on PS3 maybe not on PC. The game is even available on rental. They will likely trial the game at some point too.
Shorty Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 It's not just server costs, they also need to pay staff to maintain the game, GMs etc.. £9.99 is too much though.
Cube Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 One thing I don't get is why isn't it £9.99 a month and no game cost. The first month is around £40, so surely that would put loads of people off buying the game?
Daft Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Yeah, it's weird logic. I always thought likewise they should just put SingStar as a service on all PS3s (Maybe with a couple of starter songs) and just open up the store to everyone who owned a PS3. BAM! An extra 10 million+ customers just like that.

flameboy Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 No first month is free then £9.99 maximum per month thereafter. You pay through PSN on PS3. The first month is effectively £40 seem as your buying the game for that much, I think thats what Cube meant.
Happenstance Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Had a look around town today for the game, not one shop seemed to have any in stock.
Dyson Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 My store only got 8 copies in. It wasn't sold out by the time I left on Saturday. People seemed very put off when we told them it was £9.99 a month, mostly parents. I think it's way too much tbh.
McPhee Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Agreed. As much as I want to play it I can't stomach the costs involved. It's why I don't play MMO. I'm happy to pay for the game or pay a subscription but not both. I'll wait for the game itself to go free, or drop to near the £10 mark before picking it up.

It does come down to this console gamer mentatiliy that we have that online gaming should be not be charged per game!
