Mr. Bananagrabber Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Yeah I do. Except for 1983 it's an excellent list. I love how in the video they skip out Sunshine in the Mario montage near the start.
Raining_again Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I was expecting 2007 to be in the top. It was rather good and brought back some memories
mariosmentor Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 2001 was a pretty good year, but I wouldn't include the Xbox as a memorable gaming moment. The Xbox 360 is an excellent console but the original Xbox didn't have much going for it and even now I struggle to see anything in the back catalogue that I want to buy.
Roostophe Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Some good points on that there chart. I agree with it fully.
darksnowman Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 What happened to 1996? I'll tell you what happened IN 1996... DKC 3! Lol, not a bad list at all. Its hard to believe that 1998 is like 10 years ago. o.O
Mike Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Only having a Wii and DS, I don't consider 2007 to be that much of a great year. Sure, we got Metroid 3, Mario and Phantom Hourglass at the end, but most of the year was spent waiting around for something new to come out, with only Pokémon Diamond in the middle to really keep me busy.
D_prOdigy Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I don't see why 2005 is so high. If you ask me, I would have replaced that with 2004. Looking from a wider perspective, I guess you could say that the new hardware made it remarkable, but I also remember there being very little in terms of quality games - RE4 being the only stand out. 2004 on the other hand, was a golden age for last gen.
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 RE4 being the only stand out. You'd best be kidding. 2004 was a great year (mainly because of Half Life 2), but the sheer number of amazing games make 05 the better year by far imo. 04 probably deserves a place in the top ten as well though.
Coolness Bears Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 It's a good list! I mostly agree with it! Except the first one 1983! I may have put 1998 first as that was the first Year that came into my head it was an awesome year! Though 2007 is a great choice! Only reason personally I may not have put it first is that i don't have a 360 and so didn't get to experience a lot of the games! but the ones i did play were Brilliant! Eg. Bioshock Though there were definately some great Wii Offerings as well! 2004/05 are also good years In My Opinion!
D_prOdigy Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 You'd best be kidding. Oh come on. I like my big bosses as much as the next guy, but I also want a little thing called SUBSTANCE with my videogames. Seriously though, yeah, I can see why many people like SotC, I just personally would have picked a better counterargument
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 That's totally subjective though. I can see how someone would think that it's maybe a little lacking in substance (However much I disagree) but I think anyone who'd mark it down for that is missing the point of the game. It's about the feeling you get from it. The emptiness of the land, it's about your relationship with the only living thing around you other than the towering beasts, it's about the trembling sensation you get when you run head first toward something hundreds of times your size. Saying Colossus is just a bunch of bosses is missing the bigger picture. It's the closest that any game has gotten to to 'art' as far as I'm concerned. It's the Citizen Kane of videogames. Better than every game released in 04 combined in my opinion. Out of interest, what games make you think 2004 was a better year? I've only browsed Wikipedia, but nothing really jumped out at me.
D_prOdigy Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Your absolutely right - it is subjective, but I'm still not gonna pretend that I liked it just because others would burn me for speaking my realy opinions. Besides, it's more of an aquired taste than something like, say Zelda. Yes, I probably did miss the bigger picture concerning the game, but I know I'm right in saying I'm totally not alone in that. As for kickass gaming in 2004 (in rough chronological order): - Ninja Gaiden - Far Cry - Tales of Symphonia - Astro Boy: Omega Factor - Pimkin 2 - Katamari Damacy - Paper Mario 2 - GTA: SA (apparently, some people liked it...) - Half-Life 2 - Halo 2 - Metroid Prime 2 (most underrated sequel ever) On top of that, Zelda: Twilight Princess was announced at E3, which was probably the most excited Nintendo fans ever got since perhaps Space Wrold 2000.
SHUCKLE MAN Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I don't think 2007 was the best year, and I have a feeling that 1983 was put there as a joke... Other than that it looks okay. I'd probably say that 1997 was my favorite year.
