Supergrunch Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7195840.stm So, apparently the chess player Bobby Fischer died today at the age of 64. Despite being a chess legend, and inspiring many people, he had extremely controversial views, such as supporting the September 11th attacks and being anti-Semitic... many people think he had gone slightly crazy in his old age.
Supergrunch Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 ...Who? O_o Often said to be the greatest chess player ever. I don't play chess, so I don't actually know that much about him... but I think he also invented Fischer time.
Supergrunch Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 Is that like Hammer time? A little. Now next time I go into Canadian byo-yomi, I'll have to try not to laugh.
ReZourceman Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 He approved of September 11th? Id say RIP, but he sounds like a tosser.
welsh_gamer Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Good thing Nintendo didn't use him to advertise Wii Chess, which coincidencly is out today.
Iun Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Good thing Nintendo didn't use him to advertise Wii Chess, which coincidencly is out today. Oh you cannot BUY marketing that good! Anyway, rest in peace, Bobby. You were the greatest, but also one of the craziest, Kasparov has a lot of work to do before he is thought to be half as insane as you.
Mundi Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Little known fact, he moved to Iceland so he wouldn´t be arrested for playing an illegal chess match in Yugoslavia. There´s more to it but it just sounds silly. Also nearly every product with his name on it was made without his approval
ShadowV7 Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Illegal chess match? Was it Chess Russian Roulette style? More valuable piece that's lost the more critical the area you get shot in? Also never heard of the guy. Doesn't sound like he was that nice of a person.
Mundi Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 The guy was a loony, blamed jews for ruining chess...
MoogleViper Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Does anybody else find it fitting that he died aged 64?
jayseven Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 He was a great player; totally barmy before he ever got old, but then Chess at that level isn't for sane people. He's the sort of infamous person to me who, as a kid, was never alive nor dead... but still, sad to see this. My dad'll be sadder; fischer was his chess hero!
rokhed00 Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 The guy was a loony, blamed jews for ruining chess... Jews ruin everything.
DomJcg Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 His mother was jewish, he called for bushs death, resigned as master of chess after the FIDA (sp?) failed to meet one of his 64 conditions, including everyone needed to remove headclothing when the match was being played...
jayseven Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 .. there's that number 64 again! *eerie music*
MoogleViper Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I heard his cock was 64cm long. And his arsehole was 8cmx8cm. Also he was a pawn star. Sorry
