Aimless Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 As it happens I just had to buy another DS3 myself as I was having trouble with the triggers; I guess my cat knocked it off the desk one too many times. I'm pretty sure I can fix mine, though, it's just proving very fiddly to reconstruct the trigger assembly correctly. What's wrong with yours?
CoolFunkMan Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Long story short i got pissed off at a game, you can imagine the rest... But yeah, I tried to fix it, to no avail. So now I have a DS3 pad with broken trigger buttons. Anyone know where I can get a new DS3 for cheap?

CoolFunkMan Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Well, I have about £17 worth of Game reward points, which means I could get a Dual Shock 3 for around £20. Although I was hoping to use them on something better than a replacement gamepad. :/ But then I could just walk into a store and get one on the spot. However, someone's selling one for £25 on the Amazon marketplace, but then that'd involve waiting for shipping. I have no idea which option to go for...
dwarf Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Go for amazon, the sixaxis is more than usable and you'll thank yourself later. 3 or 4 days isn't long to wait.
CoolFunkMan Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 True, but the £25 offer appears to have gone, and the price is back up to £32ish. Looks like I'll be getting it from Game after all. :/ Well, at least it'll teach me to be more careful with my stuff...

Don't know if you'd want to check out WHSmith first, according to HotUkDeals dualshock 3 are £19 and many other cheap games and stuff.

tapedeck Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Ok, to save me from scouring the interwebz I am looking for the best deal on a PS3 as my folks want one. I'm not fussed about games or anything, just the system. Best I've seen atm is £300 at Argos (80gb console with 2 OLD games like Resistance 1 and Motorstorm 1). Because they watch DVD's/Blurays they want a remote control - I've only seen the official one for £18 - anyone aware of any cheaper deals/alternatives? Thought our tight N-E PS3 crew would know the best places to grab a decent deal.

Thanks for letting me know! Game's reward card system was down when I tried to buy a DS3, so I didn't bother. Guess that's lucky though really, considering that insane offer! I'm trying to chase it up atm. EDIT: Well, the only two stores that are anywhere near me haven't got them... bugger. ¬¬ Edited June 18, 2009 by CoolFunkMan

I got mind for a good deal second hand and recently a friend got his off eBay, 80GB console with GT5: P for £220. Otherwise this is a decent deal: http://gamestation.co.uk/PS3/Hardware/HardwareBundle/~r416405/Sony-PlayStation-3-80GB-Console-with-Infamous/ Edit: PSN store update is shit, but I guess you can't have great additions every week. Motorstorm pack looks promising. Edited June 18, 2009 by dwarf
tapedeck Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 PS3 with infamous/prince of Persia and megadeive collection for £297 in ASDA is the best I've seen. Daft: does that mean that Sony mobiles are gonna link to our PS3's? Sweet! an iPhone app would be good for me though :-p
Aimless Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Ok, to save me from scouring the interwebz I am looking for the best deal on a PS3 as my folks want one. Apparently some WHSmiths are selling 80GB machines for £200. This isn't a set in stone offer, but it might be worth checking your local stores on the off chance anyway.
Dante Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has warned that the publisher “might have to stop supporting Sony” platforms. “I'm getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don't make it easy for me to support the platform. It's expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation,” he told The Times. “They have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates are likely to slow,” he added. “If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony. When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console — and the PSP too.” Kotick, who said recently that he was disappointed the platform holders opted not to announce console price cuts at E3, also noted that Activision had paid Sony $500 million in royalties and other goods last year, which “probably still worked out at 400 percent of the profit they made.”
Daft Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) Yeah, cut out over 22 million potential customers. Makes sense. I'm not really a big fan of CoD, I could easily live without it, so personally I wouldn't give two shits. Although I have a 360, but this move would just annoy me into avoiding anything Activision. I suspect he's just putting pressure on Sony. Also, Activision can bloody talk. Their peripherals are extortionate. And I realised I do want DJ Hero (DAMN YOU DJ SHADOW!!!). Hopefully Sony can give the James Bond license to someone more competent. Although, history indicates this is highly unlikely. Edited June 19, 2009 by Daft I can't spell
Ryan Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Bobby Kotick is the most hideous public face in this industry.
Aimless Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Given that Actvision's raison d'être is sequels and DLC for existing title, dropping PS3 support would be a case of cutting off their nose to spite their face. They might be the 'biggest' third-party publisher, but in terms of output their two relevant titles are Guitar Hero and Call of Duty, both of which have already been developed to work on PlayStation 3 hardware. The investment has already been made, so I don't think Activision are in as strong a position as Mr. Kotick is trying to make out. If this was EA talking then people should perhaps be a bit worried as they actually offer up a big selection of different titles and genres as well as putting out evergreen titles like Fifa or Madden. On the contrary Electronic Arts have recently been talking about how they feel they have a much better grip on PS3 development than ever before, so I don't think you'll see them trying to throw their weight around. Besides, the PS3 is going to see a price cut before the year is out.
Pit-Jr Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 This news would be alarming if the PS3 didnt already have such a great library and an even greater future library. I had to double-check to make sure but i have 10 PS3 games and 0 of them are from Activision.
Daft Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I'm getting concerned about Activision; their crappy cheap plastic peripherals cost way too much and they don't make it easy for me to support them. Guitar Hero 14 is expensive to play and, if I need, my Wii and Xbox have better alternatives. Games shouldn't cost more than consoles. They have to cut the price, because if they don't, they are cunts. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop buying their shitting plastic crap. When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the Guitar Hero franchise — and any offshoots when it reaches the bazillionth instalment and the 900th crappy plastic controller iteration are released.
dwarf Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I am possibly ordering an HD TV today. I want it 32" with good sound quality and picture. Max £470. Find me the best one! GO.
dwarf Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Look Choze that's the maximum I've set. I know you're loaded and have high standards but it is possible to get good HD TVs for less. 32" TVs don't need to have 1080p either do they? Just see what you can do, I appreciate the help.
dwarf Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Well no I just want a TV that's good for games, I really don't give a toss about the extras, I've been looking for one a while now but I just haven't made the precise choice.
