Wii Balance Board... Not Wii Fit!

Now i know that i have been away from these forums for the first half of this year, (never again, this is one of the two web forums i love!) but i wouldn't mind suggesting that that petey piranah post is the post of the year so far!

Brilliant! the original idea was hilarious and then to have somebody take this into so much deatail... it's genius on so many levels!

petey, when you have 'confirmed' your console code let me know!

Amazing, i believe the correct term to use here is 'mad props'

Ey, thanks for the props :awesome: The idea just spanned into my head. I'm about to turn on my Wii console now, (not in a sexual manner :heh:) and i'll find out what my console code is...

I will add you to my console now, make sure you hit me with a few mii's if you have time! I love mii's!

Back on topic:

Imagine if there was a game using the wii balance board that let you fly through the air through cities and stuff, i am not sure if i am thinking of the right film here but something like 'the silver surfer' or even better a back to the future game where you could actually ride a hover board, i would love to ride it across the top of that swimming pool!

Other ideas:

Sumo Wrestling Sim (Mini game) Stomp on either side like they do prior to a match, and then as you grapple your opponent lean forwards and backwards when you need to retreat and apply pressure and try and knock your opponent over the edge.

Arm Wrestling --> Similar concept, would play out very similar to an arcade game that used to be playable where you have a large hand and you verse CPU and have to try and defeat the computer player. Each opponent would have increased strength and success would rely on strength and your ability to keep yourself positioned well to apply maximum strength.

Tightrope Mini game. Slow steady movements need to keep your balance, although I'm not sure whether this particular mini game would work as you run out of space to move and you'd by default not be able to progress unless the game didn't recognise small backward movements...

Golf, Baseball and Boxing could theoretically be remade and expanded upon in Wii Sports 2, if there ever was a follow up installment for use with the balance board that would be positioned vertically...

I can see some of these sorts of mini games that incorporate the Balance Board being extensively used in Mario Party 9. Microphone games and now Balance Board mini games...

Tbh all i could see this being good for in a boarding game is turning. There isn't much it can do really i don't see how it would work with 1080 either.

well yeh, you use controller for tricks etc, and you movie with the board.

You could use it for steering and use a Wiimote or whatever you need for tricking.

It is the age of Peripherals.

And I find it sad that every game will cost us more and more on peripherals. Wii is based on the concept of pheripherals more than anything else. And I find it dangerous that next year, we'll have to pick up a ten-times as big box in your local store, pay double the dollar and play a one-game for the peripheral. Incredibly annoying.

And the balance board is just the start. I don't like it. I'm starting to doubt Nintendo and I have the feel they are driving thee real gamers away to Xbox 360 or PS3.

I think it started taking off last gen with the likes of Eyetoy and Guitar Hero. This E3 alone we see the likes of this, the zapper and wheel, MS's Scene It toy...

I think what your saying is pretty accurate.

Wii Sports Tennis has automatic player movement, as everyone knows. However, what about a proper tennis game like Top Spin/Virtua Tennis? You want control over your character but do you attach the nunchuck, comprimising the feel of the swing a little?

What about standing on the balance board and leaning the way you want your player to move. This would leave you to swing the remote on it's own just like a tennis raquet in Wii Sports or, preferably, with more freedom of control on the ball (not just timing, but more complex shots available- a bit less restricting than the simplicity of Wii Sports)

That is, quite literally, orgasmic.

Erm?

Square-Enix interview:

Do you have interest in using the microphone or Wi-Fi in future DS titles?

Toriyama: We're definitely interested in the multiplayer and local connection element. And we'd like to look into it for the future. We don't know about the mic function so much because it might not be too convenient if you're playing on the train. Right now we're mostly interested in Wii Fit. We're really intrigued by it.

Is there going to be a Final Fantasy-themed fitness game?

Toriyama: There are no actual plans to take Final Fantasy into the fitness genre, but that whole system and mechanism of using your weight and balance to control games is something we're interested in incorporating into future RPG titles

Yeah, was just gonna post this!

This also means the Wii is likely to be getting a lot of future interest from Square-Enix, which is awesome!

Sounds like Nintendo have also put the word out to other developers...

Nintendo has already hinted it would like EA to make a new SSX game using it and for Activision to tailor a future Tony Hawk title to it as well.

I can't see it happening. Mario & Sonic is out in November, Wii Fit sometime in 2008.
