Domstercool Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Every bloody company has its skeletons in the cupboard. I don't know one company that hasn't done anything bad.
Kurtle Squad Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 And Nintendo has always been the innocent, none monopolising one. I didn't say nor suggest that. Plus, Nintendo seems to have changed a lot since the evil Yamauchi stepped down, and Sony has only really been wanker-ish in the more recent years, which is why I dislike them.
ZeldaFreak Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Nintendo 'Safe for kiddies' Home stolen from the gaf LOL so true. And for me though the Home avatars look like they could be very good go virtually and play pool all that stuff. And all miis to are sit their be pointless. Nintendo the new Disney - dumb down all of their properties and sell rehash over rehash of ips until people overtake you.
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I think that if Nintendo were to make a simplified version of Home, everybody would and could enjoy it. The only problem is that Nintendo doesnt want people to meet new people and communicate. And in a way they are right. If you let people on to the internet they are going to act like arseholes.
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I hate to say it but Home is way more interesting than the Miis. What is the point of the Miis exactly? They do nothing, except look cute. The thing I find really good about home, and this is something XBL does, is that it makes every game you play relevant to each other, the example in XBL being the gamerscore. I keep changing my mind about Home, at this second in time, I really like it!
Cube Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I hate to say it but Home is way more interesting than the Miis. What is the point of the Miis exactly? The PS3 has a browser. So whats the point of Home?
Shino Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I think that if Nintendo were to make a simplified version of Home, everybody would and could enjoy it. The only problem is that Nintendo doesnt want people to meet new people and communicate. And in a way they are right. If you let people on to the internet they are going to act like arseholes. Thats because people are arseholes, why not just ban us from going outside our house.
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 The PS3 has a browser. So whats the point of Home? It seems to implement a sense of community, among people and games, which I don't get with the Wii. TBH I'm not quite sure what the normal PS3 browser does, but I think Home lends itself to being more immersive.
triforce_keeper Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I have to admit, this looks fucking awesome. And being a Ninty fanboy and all, this is hard to come out of me :P
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I have to admit, this looks fucking awesome. And being a Ninty fanboy and all, this is hard to come out of me :P Same! I mean, when you compare Home to crap like this http://kotaku.com/gaming/gdc07/gdc07-new-mii-channel-announced-242738.php its just lame! Everybody Votes...why? Whats there reason?
triforce_keeper Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Same! I mean, when you compare Home to crap like this http://kotaku.com/gaming/gdc07/gdc07-new-mii-channel-announced-242738.phpits just lame! Everybody Votes...why? Whats there reason? Yeah true, Nintendo better start releasing some damn awesome channels that are actually "fun" or I think you will be finding me stealing money off my parents to buy a ps3 :P But thats only in an extreme case hehe.
ShadowV7 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Release a demo channel and i'll forget all about this...
ZeldaFreak Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Following Sony's announcement of its new online community software, PS Home, Nintendo has gone on the offensive, deeming the service "an example of Sony's 'Mii-too' approach." When asked of the company's thoughts on Sony's online plans, Nintendo told CVG: "This is an example of Sony's "Mii-too" approach. But as Mr. Miyamoto states, Nintendo years ago considered and rejected the type of approach Sony is now taking", presumably referring to creating a virtual online world. Just in case you missed it, PS3 Home allows players to create their own character, like a 3D avatar, and take it into a realistic online virtual world to interact with PS3 gamers from around the globe. Nintendo's equivalent avatar system, the Mii Channel, lets gamers make simple cartoon-style characters and save them onto the Wii's internal memory. These Miis can then be imported into games for gameplay, or sent to other Wii consoles via the internet. Nintendo has clearly opted for a simpler approach - although some say the lack of customisation options make it a bit too basic. But Nintendo is pleased with it's avatar system, saying: "Miis have become a cultural phenomenon in their own right, appealing well beyond the traditional core gamer audience, and the process of populating them across the Wii universe is just beginning." 3D avatars and real time interaction could become a huge aspect of gaming with the current generation of consoles. But will Microsoft join the party with their own PS3 Home or Mii equivalent? Xbox Live subscribers have been interacting with each other since the online gaming service launched almost five years ago. Have Sony and Nintendo seen the success the platform achieved and now want a piece of the action? We're speaking to some very important people at Microsoft later today at GDC and we'll put it to them. computerandvideogames.com No evidence to suggest that nintendo had that thought of, thats them saying shit we didn't think of that.
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Thats because people are arseholes, why not just ban us from going outside our house. Well how would you feel if Zolitanze and Nintendork lived in your room?
Shino Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Well how would you feel if Zolitanze and Nintendork lived in your room? Bad.... But instead of completly dismiss online support (ok not completly but the comunity part of it), Nintendo could put that parental control in use.
pedrocasilva Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 No evidence to suggest that nintendo had that thought of, thats them saying shit we didn't think of that.Look at stage debut, it actually has lots of face-maped characters interacting with each other. Miyamoto wanted to use it with other games, but the scenarios were already there, houses, classrooms, open parks, whatever (despite the N64'ish graphics), they must have had some ideas for that, or looked at the possibilities, and that was certainly one of them. Also... Animal crossing had customizable furniture and mini-games before and there was a animal crossing 2 in development for the GC that was supposed to be online at some point in time. Nintendo's attempt turning out realistic like that? not possible. But joining these factors... I'd say possible. It would still be different in approach from PS Home attempt. This said, sure they stumbled upon the similar solution at some points it's part of the possibilities; I believe in them when they say they just chose not to pursue it for the better or for the worse.
Kurtle Squad Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Well how would you feel if Solitanze and Nintendork lived in your room? You could add ZeldaFreak to that list:heh: Though he has improved.
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Nintendo just seem to take so long to do anything! I doubt we will get anything near as functional as Home until the next generation when, I pray to god, Nintendo include a hard-drive!
flameboy Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I don't think Nintendo had any reason to comment on it to be honest. Cos it is still very different, and at the moment a very unique product. But one that admittedly steals stuff from alot of other source, but it really doesn't steal from the Mii channel, or Stage Debut, it steals more from Second Life if anything. A few of the features seem to be a bit tacked on and not the sort of thing to bother about, I mean the sitting and watching film trailers together I could just as easy sit on msn share a link and watch stuff with people. Having said that it does have some great features. Sony Home does seem to take the best aspects from certain things, I mean it is just the rehashing of various different ideas all merged and moulded into one new fresh appealing product. Simply put Nintendo should not have responded the Mii Channel is a unique product just the same as Sony Home is. I don't think this is as blatant rip off as the six axis is (cmon lets admit who are they still trying to kid?) Personally I hate knocking Nintendo and it really pains me to say this, but they should keep quiet and instead if they want to do something about it, get back to developing the Stage Debut and the Mii Channel as one forward thinking innovative idea, rather than bemoaning Sony's re-engineering of other ideas into something that will be a great selling point for the PS3 (argh god hate admitting that)
christophicus Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I havent read about the home , but from browsing through this thread it seem sto me that teh home is much like the lobby in phantasy star online.
Cube Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I suppose I don't find this attrctive as most people due to me finding MMORPG games utter boring.
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 http://kotaku.com/gaming/nintendo/nintendo-on-shifting-their-focus-and-sonys-home-242782.php Home "is very different from what we are doing. On a personal level, looking at it, it would be something I would never do. You're not got to reach someone like me. It would invest too much of my time." Ummm....That's what I thought about Second life, yet so many people invest so much time in it and even companies put buildings into that world.
The Bard Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Actually, Second Lifes active population is only around 250,000. Quite small for an MMO if you ask me.
Daft Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Actually, Second Lifes active population is only around 250,000. Quite small for an MMO if you ask me. Oh, right. With all the press it kept getting I just assumed it was a lot larger! Interesting, nay probable, take on Home: http://www.pressthebuttons.com/2007/03/a_playstation_h.html
Shino Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Actually, Second Lifes active population is only around 250,000. Quite small for an MMO if you ask me. Still a lot bigger than my village.
