Atomic Boo Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Hey, I just watched the money programme on the BBC about the new Windows Vista, and they had microsoft executives talking about how great the new version is. They went through the 'wow' advertising campaign (which can't be great because I havent heard about Vista before). Anyway, all I can say is that Im not really blown away. It looks virtually the same as XP even if there are another 10 million lines of script for it. The only talking points they showed were the new window stacking systems and the chess board game that's built in. Who cares?! Apparently they spent 10 billion pounds on the project and it really isnt that special. Obviously its going to be slightly better, the best PC software in fact, but worth £100 - £250 depending on the version? I dont think so. By any chance has someone already bought it or used it yet, Id like to see some opinions.

Atomic Boo Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 Actually use it before you judge it, its stable, fast too boot and has some nice little features. it may have, i was just giving some impressions from what i saw on the programme. i even said it would be the best piece of software available for the PC, but £100 - £250? you could get a 360 for that money
Guest Jordan Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Also, we have a tech board you know. Can a mod lock this?
Atomic Boo Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 Also, we have a tech board you know. Can a mod lock this? Well in the general discussion you dont get as many people going on about RDC's MFG's or whatever you guys talk about in there. We may as well use this for normal discussion and what the Vista features are, instead of worrying about memory and performance. 90% of the posts in the thread Moria showed me didnt make any sense to me at all.
conzer16 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I am thinking about getting it for my laptop, but I want to upgrade my RAM first. I only have 512 and would like 2 Gigs.
Ant-Shimmin Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Getting my free Vista Upgrade soon myself, can't wait to get it uploaded... Damn you MS doubters!
Fields Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I havent heard about Vista before Where on Earth have you been for the past god knows how many years?! And I think I'll wait for Leopard thanks.
Cube Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I got it for my laptop a while ago. At first I used XP mostly, but since I got my TV Card and Nintendo WiFi USB connector, plus all my programs, working fine on Vista, I only use Vista now. I find it much easier to navigate, more stable and faster to boot up.
Caris Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Also, we have a tech board you know. Can a mod lock this? What version do you have?
conzer16 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I have a question. My hard disk is partitioned into 2 partitions (funnily enough :p ), the C drive (15GB) and the D Drive (60GB). I know you need at least 15GB free to install Vista and I have 30GB free overall, but only 7 on the C Drive. Does that mean I couldnt install it?
Shino Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Actually use it before you judge it, its stable, fast too boot and has some nice little features. That's not what you used to say. Where's that Meik fellow?
Guest Jordan Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 What version do you have? Ultimate 32bit, got the OEM version for £99.
Blue_Ninja0 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I've been testing it for 2 months or so and i must say it's seems to be better than XP in every aspect. Smoother, faster, more stable, more handy features. Also, Vista's version of Internet Explorer 7 seems to be better and more secure than Firefox (for now). The only problem in Vista is that it has bigger system requirements and, of course, the price. But my Uni will probably give me a legit copy for free.

Caris Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Ultimate 32bit, got the OEM version for £99. Nice, is it faster than home premium or does it just have more features?
