Did you ever get Platinum medals on any of them? It's damn near impossible! I did it on about 4 or them or so, but I could only manage Gold on the others. I'd love to see them have an expanded Boss Rush mode though. Tackle all the bosses from the entire series (in the KRTD engine) back to back! Would be epic!

Wii U Can't Replicate Xbox Live/PSN

That's not how it works in Miiverse. You're right in saying that it's effectively an officially sanctioned gaming forum, with swears, spoilers and other nasties curated. They've already said that they're not going to do a recommendations thing or a "other people who bought this also bought this" sort of thing, but rather that the Miiverse will act as a source of word of mouth communications. So you would be able to get "proper" reviews and impressions from people through Miiverse (assuming that Nintendo aren't stupid enough to try and censor negative impressions about their own or 3rd party games - the PR fallout would be massive!) Don't forget, he's talking to his investors here and explaining Miiverse in a way that makes sense to them. Miiverse is essentially a videogame message board for the masses who don't usually check out places like here on N-Europe. And that's a huge step forward in terms of game awareness, communication and proliferation of good taste! (assuming that it's handled well) Just imagine your mum actually reading impressions and basing her purchases off of good comments made about a quality, but niche, title like Phoenix Wright, instead of buying the shlop that gets advertised on TV... Actually TBH I'm not sure if I'm helping my argument there, gives me Chinpokomon vibes LOL! -
It's not just a ROM collection. It also features 10 new Kirby Returns to Dreamland/Kirby's Adventure Wii Challenge Stages!!! (the mode where you race through stages using only a single copy power) http://andriasang.com/con1fh/kirby_collection_new_content/ There's also a calendar for the whole series timeline and a music/SFX jukebox, but who cares?! NEW KRTD CHALLENGE STAGES!!! BUY BUY BUY!!! I wish they'd include the 3 cancelled Kirby games that they used to make KRTD though...

Want a laugh? Check out this 8 page long cesspool that has developed on GAF as a result of this article http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=478278 This pic sums it up pretty nicely Good God! I'm so glad I left that place -

Well Miiverse is something that's always accessible even while playing a game right? You can communicate across different games through that! (although voice chat is naturally still up in the air ATM) -
Wii U Can't Replicate Xbox Live/PSN

Misleading article is misleading. Here's the actual full quote from Iwata himself... Edit: Holy shit! How fucking unprofessional! They don't even link to the original source!!! See the original Nintendo transcript here: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/120606qa/02.html (page 2) What he's actually saying here is that they're not going to consciously play "catch up" because they're not trying to replicate XBL or PSN, they're going in a different direction (the typical Nintendo attitude of marching to their own drumbeat) There's no admittance that the competition is ahead or admittance of defeat. That's the article author's own horseshit that he's put into Iwata's mouth here. Instead of trying to take on PSN or XBL head-on with fully open communication, achievements and everything that 12 year old dudebro fratboys love, they're trying to make a network that appeals to both the "casual" audience, the "core" audience AND the 12 year old frat boys. Edit: Please don't give shitty sites like C&VG clicks. In fact, just don't trust them period. Always read the original source! -
WTF!? I qualified for the coins, but I didn't get any email yesterday (nor does it show on the website!) What's going on here? (Oh, and I'm still waiting on those Kid Icarus AR cards )

LBP Vita is the real deal. Got into the beta and it's bloody amazing! Runs at native res, runs smooth as butter, looks as good as LBP2 (except the water. Looks a bit rubbish, but it is a beta after all!), has all the features of the PS3 game, touch stuff works well, online works as well as the PS3 one, it's all good Surprised that they didn't just go ahead and call it LBP3! You can even have sub levels within levels now (complete with custom menus) and it saves your progress too!!! My only complaint is that there is no local multiplayer option. That's a pretty big flaw IMO. Hopefully they'll add it down the line, because I suspect that the servers wont stay online forever.

I'm surprised at how nice this looks in 3D! It's a very subtle effect that adds a nice extra bit of depth (and a little bit of pop) to the image. There's also a lot of care put into it; the end level castle is a good example. They could've just had the castle as a whole pop in or out, but they went the extra mile and actually set different depth values for each brick! (the rim pops out slightly more than the upper part and the right side of the arch even pops out a little more than the left part! - correct perspective in a 2D Mario game?! Madness!) That bit of extra detail has me feeling better about the whole game actually

Nintendo always start working on successor consoles/handhelds as soon as the new one comes out. No need to worry, 3DS has a long life ahead of it.
-
Really surprised to see that they're willing to devalue their VC releases (especially since Kirby's Dreamland 2 was only just released!) Mind you though, assuming that it's gonna sell for full retail price, it's actually cheaper to pick up all these games seperately from the VC! Considering that I own them all on VC already, I'm probably gonna give this a miss.

Can I have your magic copy please? It's a lagfest for me on my 20 mbit connection! Also FPS games lend themselves well to online play. They're one of the easiest types of games to get working online (along with racing games) because player actions are fairly predictable and do not rely on split second timing - though that's not meant to be a knock against MAG in anyway because it IS a technical marvel for online play! Gettin NSMB to work online is like getting a 4 player Street Fighter to work, in terms of the latency challenge involved. If they can't match the local experience well enough, they won't do it.
-
About bloody time! Well I know that next week will definitely be better than this week's lineup! Now how's about getting Sakura Samurai and Shantae out over here NOE!
-
E3 trailers for NSMB2, LMDM and Paper Mario SS are now up on the EU eShop At least they aren't as late as last year!
-
The 3rd party list is only games that are published by Nintendo and 3rd party developers who have long standing relationships with Nintendo (Like Q-Games, who in the past have made games like Starfox Command, Reflect Missile, 3D Spacetank and Art-Style Intersect for Nintendo) Stuff like Castlevania is entirely separate and has nothing to do with Nintendo themselves.
-
The speed looks more similar to the classic NES/SNES CV games. That's fine by me, so long as the platforming is detailed and the challenge is high.
-
Ahh, forgot about Skylanders! I only added RCTycoon for the sake of completeness really, but since I don't wanna make it too messy, I've removed it in favour of Skylanders. Thanks!

Same reason why 4 swords Anniversary couldn't work online. There are parts where it requires split second timing to activate certain switches (That game is also VERY susceptible to wireless interference as the slightest of drop outs cause the game to go crazy, even though Nintendo's NiFi protocol is the lowest latency wireless protocol out there!) There are times where the lack of online play is baffling (Starfox 64 3D), but in many cases, Nintendo escew online play for good reasons. Most people don't really understand the implications of netcode development though and just assume that any game that works locally will also work online in exactly the same way :p
-
To be fair, it would be VERY difficult getting a game like Pikmin working online. It's not like a normal online RTS game, where you deploy units and tell them where to go with a top down view (from which point, the game already knows the exact position and time in which the troops will arrive at their destination minutes in advance); in Pikmin, you are directly controlling 101 characters simultaneously around a 3rd person 3D world in full real time (with input change and path finding AI updates every 60th of a second). Now take all that and multiply it by 2 for multiplayer! (or 4 if it's 4 player online!) Getting Pikmin multiplayer working online just isn't feasible, just like how getting NSMB multi working online isn't feasible either (think about how laggy Little Big Planet is online and imagine trying to jump off a friend's head to reach a platform... yeah... that's not gonna work...) It's not a CPU limitation, but an online latency one. They could've had a cut down version of multiplayer (with simpler environments and less Pikmin) for a specific online mode I guess, but then that's altering the way the game works and it's not really Pikmin any more.

I was still editing it as you typed that up, but thanks for pointing that out anyway! Right! Speculation time! Alphadream: Mario & Luigi for Wii U! With Paper Mario going handheld, it's only logical that M&L comes to the big screen (1080p sprite based goodness across 2 screens ) Skip: Hopefully a new batch of Art Style games for 3DS, just think of what they could do with them in 3D Arika: A new batch of 3D Classics titles (COME ON ALTTP 3D!!!) Retro Studios (AKA, the big one): You could dedicate an entire thread to just them! Whatever is happening with them, I hope it's a new IP! It's about time that they finally got the chance to work on something completely original! Good Feel: I think they've been typecasted as the go-to guys for hand drawn 2D platformers. Whatever it'll be, it'll be on Wii U in 1080p and it'll be beautiful! Monster Games: After Pilotwings Resort, they could be working on just about anything! Maybe even Wii Sports U! NST: They've been bulking up massively over the past year or so, with a huge injection of talent. Seems that they're going to be finally working on big projects again Hopefully it's something a bit more western focused (I'd love to see them get a crack at working on an original FPS!)

Couple of mistakes there. EAD Comprehensive Group is not a seperate team within EAD. It's just a term for EAD as a whole. Also Retro Studios and Creatures are 1st party, not 2nd; while Monster Games and Next Level Games are 3rd party, not 2nd. With that in mind, I've fixed up your list, added Asobism (Who are a second party who are made up of ex Skip Ltd staff and made Freakyforms) as well as NST & Q-Games and added missing games. Just before I list these games I'd just like to note that EAD doesn't work like most other studios. While there are 5 different EAD teams, EAD is actually just one big studio. The way it works is that there is a central pool of production staff, who are distributed throughout each project team (headed by different individuals) as and when is needed. So there is no one "best" EAD studio. EAD Tokyo is the exception though, due to geographical distance. I've underlined the developers whose status is currently unknown (aren't I just so helpful? )

Screw the online play, this part here is FAR more interesting... So the game is going to be closer to Pikmin 1 in terms of design than Pikmin 2 then! In what way though... There doesn't seem to be a day limit (or at least one mentioned thus far), but there IS a distinct lack of onions... (and enemies/objects brought back to the ship did not breed extra Pikmin like in past games) I wonder if indeed there is going to be a hard limit on the number of Pikmin throughout the entire game and you have to seek them out/pluck them solely from the environment? The equivalent of permadeath, when your Pikmin run out, that's it - there's no more and you either have to restart the game from the beginning or turn back time in your save file and correct your earlier mistakes! Considering how important he considers the map to be to the overall design, it's comforting to hear that the game design hasn't really changed at all from its original Wii incarnation Also, we now know what that DS Pikmin patent was all about

Is Nintendo About to go a Generation Down Already?
Dcubed replied to Retro_Link's topic in General Gaming Discussion
There's some sort of holding company (that exists to hold the rights to their IP like Turrican - which I guess is also why it's still available on the VC!), but the actual software development arm is seemingly dead.
