Indie World Showcase (17th April 2024 @ 15:00 BST)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Indie World is the biggest and highest profile regular indie event that we currently have (across all platforms). With E3 being gone, I can't see any better opportunity we have for an indie game announcement like a Silksong trailer/release date. Only thing potentially bigger than an Indie World is a proper mainline Nintendo Direct; and we're not due another one until September now. The Triple III initiative has promise if it carries on being as good as their inaugural event, but right now, Indie World is the best we have. -
Game's out now on the eShop. Let the slap fights begin!

Yeah... it's time for Silksong. Personally I'm hoping to see Mina The Hollower here, as it's been 3,000 years, but nope; everyone else is just hyped for Silksong. -
Word of warning, apparantly the PC version of DR2/Off The Record does not support Xbox One/Series controllers. They will only support Xbox 360 controllers and nothing else from what I understand.

Meme casting turned real. Honestly though? He'll be a good fit. Big get for Paramount!

I'm shocked that Titus lasted as long as they did. They are exactly the kind of low quality shovelware developer/publisher that were usually killed off in the transition from the 16bit era to the world of 3D gaming, and yet somehow, they endured all the way from 1988 to 2005! Somehow these jokers even managed to buy up Interplay and took ownership of all of their IP until they became bankrupt in 2005, damn impressive! -
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: N64 & SEGA Mega Drive (& GBA!!)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
That’s really cool. I suspect that this “support” will just be remapping the controls to use the right stick for gameplay actions so that they map to the c-buttons when using the N64 controller and moving actions off of the non-existent X/Y buttons; rather than actual official support, as I don’t think Nintendo allows 3rd party Switch developers to actually target their specialist NSO or GCN controllers with matching button prompts, but still very cool to see -

Quest 64 is remarkable in just how unremarkable it is. Almost as if it's a parody of the genre really. As for ISS 98? It's a reletively minor refinement over the already excellent ISS 64, which means it's pretty excellent. That's not to say that there aren't some pretty significant additions though, such as the ability to curve your shot by holding down Z while inputing a direction for the curve, the ability to now adjust the height of your free kicks and corner shots by pressing up and down before you shoot, the ability to make broad formation changes mid-game and, best of all, keepy uppies! You can now perform keepy uppie moves by holding c-down while not moving. There's a bit more of an emphasis on player expression in general as well, with lovely (and pointless) little touches like being able to do dummy shots and little spin dribbles with your character by rotating the analog stick while running. The control is a bit smoother overall than ISS 64, but overall it plays very similarily. It's fast, fluid and fun! About the only real complaint I have with ISS 98 is that the commentator isn't nearly as fun as the one in ISS 64, that and the music isn't quite as good. But this is pretty much as good as arcade style football gets really. An absolute cracker -
Who would've thought that this little game would give us the greatest Nintendo leaker to ever live... He even looks shifty here already!

Yo! Here's a video that I'm not watching! Wayforward just did (and by "just did", I mean did more than a week ago and I only just found out now), a stream showing the first 15 mins of the game! If you want to spoil the first 15 mins of the game for yourself, check a look!

Sorry Cube, but if I’m quoting this line, it can only mean one thing… As it turns out, there is a way to get it officially… one way. And it’s a pretty ironic way at that… Piko Interactive currently hold the rights to the N64 and GBC versions of Wetrix (and presumably the other versions too), and they just so happen to have set up a deal with Krikzz (the creator of the Everdrive line of flash cartridges for various retro systems) and the Stone Age Gamer online shop… If you buy an Everdrive 64 flash cartridge from Stone Age Gamer, you get a free pack of N64 game ROMs licensed officially by Piko Interactive… and wouldn’t you know it! One of those games just so happens to be Wetrix! So, in a hilarious twist of irony, the only way to officially buy Wetrix on the N64, and not resort to either the second-hand market or piracy, is to buy a piracy device -
Gio Corsi, former head of 3rd party relations at Sony, has just joined NOA in a similar role! Big get for Nintendo. Bodes well for 3rd party support on Switch 2

Heads up, physical copies are now out in the wild, and it sounds like the game's coming in hot with some pretty nasty game breaking bugs... ... supposedly there's a Day 1 Patch incoming that'll fix some of these bugs, but it may be worth holding off a playthrough for the first couple of weeks at least while people find the worst of these bugs and we either get some workarounds or some further bugfix patches...

Playing Wrecking Crew 98 for the first time and... it kicks arse! Can't say that I thought that Action Puzzle Battle Game would've been my first thought for how a sequel to Wrecking Crew would be made, but I'm glad they took this approach. It's like they took Panel De Pon/Puzzle League, Yoshi's Cookie & Puyo Puyo and chucked them into a blender. It's great! Any fan of action puzzle games should get a real kick out of this one! Defo gotta get some online multiplayer action going here! BTW, there's an unofficial fan translation that'll probably help with figuring out how to play the game. There's a useful video here of said translation that I've timestamped to show a playthrough of the How To Play screen to show you... well... how to play!

Kinda crazy that the N64 ended up getting zero games in the space sim genre actually released for it. This one is a particular shame, since it was one of the first games to get announced for the console; prior to its launch in 1996 even! -
Oh wow! Wrecking Crew 98! That’s awesome! First ever western release! He’s not Waluigi, shut up!

"you're watching the Triple-i initiative". Yes, I know that. Thank you. Otherwise, good show. -
Mobius was always an invention of the Sonic comics that Sega of America tried to weave into the actual games (SOA constantly attempted to meddle with the Sonic canon in that manner, including attempting to make a 32x Sonic game that starred Tiara from the cartoon/comic series). The official Sonic canon had Sonic 1 take place on South Island, Sonic 2 taking place on godknowswhere (probably South Island again), Sonic 3&K on Angel Island and Sonic CD on Little Planet. As for whether or not these islands appear on Planet Earth as we know it? Fuck knows, and I doubt Naoto Ohshima and Hirokazu Yasuhara had any clear idea in mind when they designed the original games and characters anyway.

Couldn’t quite get into the first game myself (Dicey Dungeons is more my jam), but I’m happy for Drahkon at least
-
Of all the Konami series to crossover with… … of course it’s not Castlevania LMAO! Also yes, THE GARLIC LOOKS LIKE BALLS!

One of the few times that Nintendo actually took advantage of their ownership over the Seattle Mariners (There were four Ken Griffey branded baseball games that Nintendo published across the SNES and N64... with one of them, Winning Run, actually even being developed by Rare!). What's also notable about this game is that it was the first game to be solo developed by Angel Studios (they had previously co-developed Mr Bones for the Saturn and the SEGA CD version of Ecco: The Tides of Time; but this was the first game they made alone as part of Nintendo's "Dream Team"). Angel Studios would go on to make a few noteworthy games... nothing huge you know, just the Red Dead Revolver/Redemption series. -
Looks decent, quite a significant visual overhaul. The camera looks better than the original from what I remember as well.
