  1. We have our first photo leak of the dev kit! Looks like a knockoff PC Engine that gained a few hundred pounds
  2. God I hope so. The inevitable Jimquisition will be an absolute riot (assuming that nobody gets physically hurt... which is a very real possibility here...)
  3. Blizzard surely have to cancel Blizzcon... surely they’re not stupid enough to actually allow it to go ahead at this point!?
  4. Yes it did. Both in and outside of Japan.
  5. Dragon Quest CAN be successful in the west. DQ8 and DQ9 are living proof of that. DQ11 wasn’t able crack the western market for two key reasons. 1: It didn’t get the marketing push it needed the first time around; and was marred by controversy surrounding its lack of orchestral music. The PS4 as a platform, is also not generally kind to traditional JRPGs, certainly nothing like the audience Nintendo cultivated with the 3DS (and subsequently Switch). 2: When the game finally did arrive on Switch, it was too late. The game was already a year old in the West (And two years old in Japan). Even though it came with a slew of massive improvements and additions, got a big marketing push by Nintendo and was an all round miracle port; it is ultimately still a very late port, and that puts a hard ceiling on its potential sales. The silver lining is that the game is not done selling on Switch. Switch games are characterised by strong legs and DQ11s still has the holiday season left to go. Ultimately, the game’s sales failure (both in and out of Japan) was a result of a series of poor decisions all around on the part of S-E. First off, DQ11 should’ve just been a 3DS exclusive to begin with, released back in 2013-2014, during the system’s prime. S-E spent the majority of the generation spinning their wheels and pissing about with mobile, instead of just throwing their full weight behind 3DS like they should’ve just done in the first place. They should never have bothered with a PS4 game and have just saved their big HD game for Switch’s launch period and have released it as DQ12; instead of making two entirely different games called DQ11 that both sold less than half of what DQ7, DQ8 and DQ9 managed. It should have then been localised in 2014-2015; around the time the New3DS released. Would’ve easily have cleared 1 million without question; the 3DS schedule had an open slot around that time that was just begging to be filled by a big RPG, and DQ11 would’ve fit that bill perfectly. DQ12 as a Switch exclusive would then have been able to neatly ride the coattails of Xenoblade 2 and easily would’ve cleared another 1-1.5 million in the west. Instead S-E ended up with a huge list of mobile failures and three different games (all called DQ11) which all ended up underperforming. This was all avoidable and everyone with half a brain cell saw this all coming a mile off. But of course, S-E just had to S-E...
  6. Sounds brill! I love the dialogue in your screenshots already. Mad Miitopia/Streetpass Plaza vibes Looks like its for some meat on its bones and it sounds like tons of fun! Looks like a proper Nintendo-esc Nintendo game! Cheers for the impressions @Hero-of-Time. Will be picking it up for sure!
  7. Anyone else have impressions to share? I can’t get it just yet, but I’m eager to hear some more opinions from you guys!
  8. Some people just really need to get their paedophilic jollies.
  9. Really Glen? You’re really gonna walk into such an obvious trap? Hell even DQ8 and DQ9 both cracked 1 million in the West too. Come on mate. You’re better than this
  10. You are very wrong. I hardly post there anymore (pretty much just to ask the odd question, reply to a mate of mine, or to piss off someone ) Yeah, Nintendo went all out on it. I think it’s safe to say that it’ll have much better legs on Switch than it did on PS4 though; as Switch games just have longer tails in general than PS4 when it comes to sales. So not all hope is lost yet. Hey, it’d get some more eyeballs on the game at least
  11. No it didn’t. It failed to crack even 500k-600k in the US/EU according to the sales folks on Reset Era. That’s around half of what both DQ8 and DQ9 managed, despite being a much more expensive game to make. The whole “fastest selling” thing was about revenue... no shit it competed with DQ9 on revenue; it’s twice the price!
  12. Damn shame to see. That’s probably the end for the series outside Japan then unless the next game is Switch/Switch 2 exclusive (no way will S-E be willing to localise it without Nintendo bankrolling it).
  13. I’m away at the moment, so I can’t buy/play it, but I will likely be picking it up at some point.
  14. It’s probably best compared to FFCC: My Life as a King. More of a town-building game with light RPG elements than a full-blown RPG.
  15. Just realised... Another thing worth noting is that it’s the wrong shape for the GBA/GCN Link cable. So chances are that you won’t be able to hook it up to a GameCube...
  16. Bad news guys... The dock is being sold separately... Yeah, there’s no way I can justify this kind of price. It’ll end up being the same price as the Switch when you buy the dock for it as well! Actually, the market isn’t so bad right now as far as bootlegging goes. A few years back, it was basically impossible to buy original, non-bootlegged, GBA carts, but now it’s actually alright. As long as you have your wits about you and you’re buying from reputable sellers (who usually provide pictures of the motherboard), it’s actually not a bad time to buy GB/C/A games! Nintendo DS though? No. Right now, that market is so dominated by bootleggers that you’ll end up getting trenchfoot if you even look at eBay...
  17. THERE ARE FOUR CHARIZARDS!!!!
  18. Ok, now it has a point. Looks like a good alternative to the GBA Consoliser and the GB Player; especially of it has action replay built-in (which it almost certainly will). Too rich for my blood though; especially since I already have a backlit modded GBA and a backlit GBAsp alongside a GCN/GB Player anyway I’d consider it if I didn’t already have the full official setup though... or if it had wireless multiplayer support...
  19. Super impressive that they’ve managed to achieve a FPGA GBA implementation (FPGBA?); but that form factor is... unfortunate for GBA games... Also, no wireless link cables, HDMI out or Bluetooth headphone/controller support? Talk about missed opportunities! As things stand, I don’t see much of a point in choosing this over a backlit GBAsp...
  20. I think there’s a couple of things we have to remember here. Firstly, today’s generation of kids are growing up on Minecraft, YouTube and F2P mobile games. Almost every single kid in the developed world has a smartphone; be it a hand-me-down or a brand new one, and they have been conditioned to believe that video games are something that you get for free. Secondly, kids by and large do not play consoles anymore. Even Nintendo is currently failing to capture younger audiences as kids now almost exclusively play mobile F2P games & Minecraft and watch Let’s Play live-streams... This is scarily accurate Nintendo are going into mobile precisely because they know that that’s where the kids are playing right now. Today’s kids are growing up not even knowing what Super Mario and Pokemon even are. Their Gods are the likes of Pewdiepie and all of the other alt-right white supremicists who dominate YouTube and Silicon Valley (the future is pretty frightening isn’t it?). And the mobile market has spoken. They want to be scammed with skinner boxes and actively reject anything else. While Apple Arcade at least offers some hope, subscription-based services come with their own list of problems... ... traditional full-priced sales are probably doomed to die at some point (probably within the next 10 years) as subscription services fully take over. At least it’s still gonna be better than F2P taking over I suppose
  21. Well, the evidence we have suggests that this is indeed Sony’s attitude... Hopefully YL&TIL did much better digitally...
  22. If you’re planning on buying those US PS1 games purely for the purpose of playing them (and not for the purpose of having a physical collection); I would consider getting them from the US PSN store on PS3/Vita. They would be substantially cheaper on there and much easier to get a hold of. The PSN store has almost all of the big name US exclusives (though Einhander is only available on the Japanese store... the JPN version is almost entirely in English anyway though). Also, you know, you get both portable and console versions at the same time too
  23. I’ve still got the four kits in their boxes. Outside of the VR kit visor, I simply haven’t had time to build the rest. I do want to though, but I also have to think about where I’m going to store everything...
  24. That’s Unity for you. Just the nature of the engine.
