I own every US #1 horror film (1922-2021)
Dcubed replied to CrowingJoe79's topic in General Chit Chat
Well that's certainly impressive! You clearly like your horror movies (No wonder you're always so angry about Capcom ruining Resident Evil! ) -
So from everything that's floating around right now; it's basically just a heavily stripped down port of Virtua Fighter 5? Not very exciting if that's the case...

KONAMI - What the hell are they doing!?
Dcubed replied to RedShell's topic in General Gaming Discussion
How many times can one game be remade!? Hell MGS itself is basically a glorified remake of Metal Gear 2 on MSX! -
Neat little thing, though I'm not quite sure why you need to faff around with an app when you could just take out the MicroSD card and grab the screenshots from that?

The My Nintendo Store seems to be down right now... The Store Rewards section of My Nintendo is officially down for maintanance... https://my.nintendo.com/news/84703df56441e537 That's probably why it's not working right now.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (27th July 2021)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It's weird seeing an Ace Attorney cover eschew the series' standard Character Portrait format. NGL, this box art feels a bit generic. It's got that typical anime Collage Of A Bunch Of Seperate Pose Profile Art Assets Slapped Together feel about it. Not a fan. -

It's probably two seperate videos that were slammed together (AKA, "The Wonderful 101, Will Be Releasing... On September 15th" syndrome) -
Since they became multiplatform... 4/14 of their games that they made were Playstation exclusive (One was Xbox exclusive, and three were Windows exclusive). That's hardly "everything" exclusive on Playstation (it's not even a focus on Playstation at all!); hell, outside of Spiderman, ALL of those Playstation exclusives were Rachet & Clank. A Franchise owned by Sony themselves that Insomniac had already established prior to their multiplatform shift (and thus, could not bring to other platforms; even if they wanted to). That is entierly comparable to Bethesda's own output (in terms of platform makeup) since 2008. Your argument here is entierly tribal. It's ok for Sony, but Microsoft are bad for doing the same thing with another studio with the same kind of legacy.

Tell that to Sierra, ID, EA, Ubisoft, Maxis, Bullfrog etc...

Yeah! You tell 'im Jonnas! We're getting AAI2 eventually, but for now? Let's celebrate that we're finally, FINALLY getting GAA1&2 -
You act as if PC ports to console were some sort of arcane art that never existed before the Xbox... yet even the SNES happily got games like Sim City, Populous, Drakkhen, Ultima and Blackthorne; just to name but a few. Console ports of PC games were not rare at all; not even in Japan! (Hell, Final Fantasy? Dragon Quest? They came about in the wake of The Black Onyx, which was also ported to the Famicom!); even Elite was ported to the NES back in the day! Even "incompatible genres" like RTS games, often got console ports (Command & Conquer & Starcraft? Both of them got critically acclaimed N64 ports); same with point n' click adventure games like Monkey Island, Broken Sword and Myst. Bethesda were unusual in that they stayed almost entirely exclusive to PC all the way until the original Xbox. Their legacy absolutely lies with Windows/Xbox/Microsoft; so quite frankly, the argument that Microsoft buying them somehow doesn't fly because there's no legacy link that ties them together with Bethesda, while Sony gets a free pass with Insomniac, simply doesn't hold water.
-
Insomniac were also Sony exclusive... until they weren't. Just like how Bethesda were exclusive to Microsoft until they weren't. Insomniac have been a multiplatform developer since 2013; until they were swallowed up by Sony (and yes, they made exclusive games for both Sony AND Microsoft after that point). Bethesda have been multiplatform with their own internal titles (not external licensed games) since 2008; that's only 5 years difference (and Bethesda is also 10 years older than Insomniac BTW; so they had an even longer period of MSDOS/Windows exclusivity than Insomniac did Playstation). They are a lot more similar than you think. Their console output was absolutely negligable (a whopping two NES games and two externally developed PS1 end-of-life budget titles that they published on the cheap) prior to Morrowind. Bethesda were (and still are) a PC publisher first and foremost. Their heretige is on the PC (and other early micro computers), before largely pivoting towards Xbox. The same is true of Zenimax's other studios too. All PC/Windows focused before turning largely towards the original Xbox.
-
Well then the same could be said of Bethesda. Bethesda largely got their start on PC and only really came to consoles with the advent of the original Xbox (staying mostly exclusive to Microsoft with their big internal titles until 2007-2008). It's in large part thanks to Microsoft that they became a big renowned console game publisher in the first place. People conviniently forget about that part of Bethesda's history when it doesn't suit their narrative though. Same thing is also true of Ninja Theory BTW; they got their start on Xbox with Kung Fu Chaos before they made Heavenly Sword on PS3.
-
Err... we always knew it was a timed exclusive. That wasn't some sort of amazing revelation or anything (and yes, it was a bullshit move on Microsoft's part that ended up blowing up in their face). Like I said before, Microsoft & Nintendo have also had their fair share of dirty timed exclusivity deals; but that's not the same thing as buying a developer (or yes, even a publisher). It's a false equivilence, even if you don't like it. But yeah, come on! Blocking a game from Gamepass in particular is a new low. It would be like blocking Sony from putting a game out on PS+ or Playstation Now, or doing a console bundle. It's just really really petty.
-
Actually, it did get a Nintendo Selects range towards the end of its life! Switch will most likely also get its own Nintendo Selects range as the current Switch nears its end. Nintendo's strategy is clear. No major discounts beyond the typical occasional 30% until the Nintendo Selects/Players Choice range comes along. The reason why they can "get away" with this pricing strategy is because they doggedly stick to it and continue to resist the urge to bomba price drop their games; even when they don't sell all that well. There's nothing stopping other developers/publishers from running a similar strategy; they just need to have enough confidence & faith in their own products to resist the industry status quo Race To The Bottom pricing model. There are examples of other developers/publishers pulling this off, even in modern times. Nintendo is not some special snowflake who have exclusive magic powers; they just have enough confidence in their products to not price collapse them weeks after launch. It really isn't complicated.
-
Microsoft buying a developer like Ninja Theory also allows them to make bigger and more expansive games than would've been possible before; giving them the financial security that they would not have otherwise have had. It also allows them to focus on one platform and take advantage of all of its exclusive features; so no, it's not the same. They're not buying them to take existing games away from other platforms (hell they've been specifically honouring existing/planned releases on other platforms!), they're buying them to make new, exclusive games for themselves that these developers would never have been otherwise able to make. You might not like it, but it is not an equivilence. Like I said, one is additive while the other is purely deletive. See, now that's an example of what @Hero-of-Time was talking about earlier; the idea that it's ok for some, but not others. Microsoft gets raked over the coals for buying Ninja Theory or Double Fine, but Nintendo & Sony get a free pass for Next Level Games & Insomniac.
-
Oh, yeah for sure. Nintendo shouldn't get a free pass for holding back MHR's PC version. And there absolutely is a tribal element in play, where people conviniently ignore transgressions from their own football team console manufacturer of choice. That being said, I can't help but feel that blocking a release from Gamepass in particular (not even the Xbox console platform itself!) is a new level of low though. Especially after Sony's own MLB game got put onto Gamepass, this feels like a really petty move on Sony's part.
-
Not that Microsoft or Nintendo are particularily squeaky clean in regards to timed exclusivity, but there is a big difference between buying a developer to bolster your own first party content output, and paying a publisher to not put out their games on your competitor's competing service. The former is additive (as it is done to improve your own consumer offering), while the latter is purely deletive.
-
It’s no more an “issue” than any other paid timed exclusivity, but it is a pretty dirty tactic. Fight the competition not by competing, but by trying to strangle its supply of content. Also calls into question what other backroom deals that Sony might’ve made (this is the first time we’ve seen public evidence that Sony are paying publishers to block their Gamepass releases; but it’s almost certainly not the only example... who knows what other kinds of deals they’ve got going...). They’re seemingly not willing to compete on even terms with their own Playstation Now service, but instead will fight with (effectively) timed exclusivity deals.
-
That’s talking about the technical parity stuff; which I’m not interested in. It’s the 1 year Gamepass block that is of note here; which, as far as I’m aware, is indeed part of those leaked documents.

Finally!!! About damn time they announced this!! (This was in the Ransomware leak, for those that haven’t seen it). At last! We’re finally getting these games in English!! And no, I’m not gonna stop gloating about being right about an official English localisation inevitably coming along eventually @Glen-i AAI2 WILL happen some day too -
Don’t expect Resident Evil 8 to come to Game Pass until 1 year after its release date... Sony have paid Capcom to block RE8 from coming to Gamepass for 1 year... Wonder how many games Sony is going to pay to have blocked from being added to Gamepass now...
-
Of course, because they can be used to discredit a jury/juror.
-
Yeah this whole thing is just gross. It’s a competition where there is no actual competition! Sad day for football, even with the good news starting to come out now.
