Hi all, I wasn't planning (financially) to get the WiiU until my March paycheck but someone in the xmas work do won one and offered it to me today for 200. It's the Premium Nintendoland pack and well, he hasn't even opened it as he's not a gamer so it's too good an offer to pass up. I'll be getting BlackOps2 in March though (with headset) so Nintendoland is the only game I'll have until then. Anyhoooo.... I'm bringing it home tomorrow night and need to fill my head with all of your tips and tricks with regard to the first setup. Few questions so far: I have a projector in the room I'm putting it in (hdmi & component inputs) with a separate sound system that comprises of the need for av red/white inputs (my amp blew a while back so I'm making do with this for now). 1) If I hook up the hdmi, is there any way of using the av cables to carry the sound? 2) If I use the component cable, do I get full 1080p? (projector supports 1080p natively). 3) What's the first thing I do when I open the box and plug everything in? 4) What order do I do the system update/wii transfer and any tips etc after experiencing it? 5) What do I need to back up from my Wii that won't be transferred? 6) Is the Wii pretty useless or worth hanging on to after the transfer? 7) Is playing Wii games on the Wii U system the same or different? 8) Is Nintendoland any good in the long term and what's the best game? 9) Do you use the non-game features as much as you would on the 3DS? I was addicted to Letterbox and every other thing about that system and am hoping that I'll have the same type of fun on the WiiU. 10) Any other nuggets of knowledge? Cheers all and looking forward to seeing you all soon! (I'm also getting a new car tomorrow but I'm more excited about this )

The e-shop is currently down for maintenance so I'm guessing there's something system affecting on 3ds coming tomorrow. Could be NNID integration?, could be video chat across 3DS&WiiU?, could be something else....but I'll put money on it being a system feature.

It's time to decide - post your launch game choices!

When I get it at chrimbo, my Toffees will wipe the floor with both of yez! -
Best of luck with that dude, if I tried that, I'd have hell to pay. I did get away with it on new games and even the headbanger headset ("What? This ole thing?! I've had that for aaaaages!) A whole new console though? Nope, would never get away with that!

I'm kinda torn here. I want this game. Do Want. Mind you; as someone who used to race competitively in online leagues on PC (GTR, GT Legends and the original R-Factor), I do need the steering wheel/pedals and gearshift for something this sim-like. Anyone know if there's been any word on steering wheels to be released for WiiU yet? If there isn't, I may have to go back to my pc for this one.

I'm hyped but not as much as I was with the Wii. The reason for this though is that three kids under three don't leave me with a lot of time to build up that hype. I don't really give a fiddlers about how well other peeps take to this machine. I may not be getting it on launch day due to crèche fees slaughtering my wallet these days but I will have it by chrimbo. Will I worry about how the miiverse and other online stuff turns out? Nope...fully trust that whatever Ninty do, they'll put a smile on my face. I'm not going in with any expectations, I'll just let them spray their genius all over my face 'til I'm full. Unlike others, I have been at launches dating back to the NES in '86/'87 (might have been after chrimbo that one) so I can say with some authority here that this launch is looking nowhere near the "worst launch eva". That was the gameboy micro imo. Even if I ended up getting no game whatsoever, I'm sure I'll be kept busy with what's on the system menu to begin with. Look at what they did with the 3DS - do you really think they'll go backwards and reduce the number of things you can do with the machine if you're not actually playing a game on it? I'm guessing "no". Come November 30th, I'll probably be in a bit of a foul mood. As soon as I do get my hands on it though, I'll probably scream like a Flandereses.

Well, it's tough; no easy game here that's for sure. Haven't got past the first level yet but it is fun though.

All right so, have a bit of rum in me and watched the Nintendo direct video. Was intrigued by the Liberation Maiden game that appeared in the eshop after the presentation but was a bit worried that there was no gameplay vid. Still haven't found one but what de hey, sure I've money in the account and wild eyes this evening. So for anyone who's wondering, it's downloading on my 3DS now and I'll post a review after a few sessions. Anyone else play it yet?

I play the 360 version of fifa 12 in work most lunchtimes against a liverpool fan in my team and I've grown to like it a hell of a lot. Wouldn't complain too much if it's just a slightly updated version of that to be honest. I'm a pro evo fan at heart though (on the Wii, that's the best game of soccer ever devised imo) so I'll be waiting to see what the lads in Konami have to say first. I was given fifa12 on the 3ds just this week and was absolutely astounded how it even got released....t'was a trainwreck of a yoke! As a result, I don't have high hopes for any fifa on the WiiiU.

Right behind ya on that one....looks to me like an ideal after-pub game! (not that I've been to many pubs lately but how'n'ever, it does seem like my type of game also)

So they've effectively robbed the thing from Resi Revelations where your friends end up as zombies/dogs/monsters in different levels then....when I first experienced it in that game I really wondered why other games weren't doing that as well but I'm happy that ZombiiU has it now though. Still not decided on this or Black Ops 2....hmmm...

EU Nintendo Direct 13th September 3pm

I'm greased up and ready to go....this is the Megaton...I can FEEL it! They'll be announcing the free online universe you can't get out of; the free sweeties that pop out of the machine when you turn it on; Iawata will have a direct feed to your U-mote display and appear for a chat when you pause a game; tiny Reggies will pour out of the console when you're playing alone and pick up the wii-motes for 5-player fun like the tiny Ashs in Evil Dead 2...this'll be drokkin' MAGIC! ...but no, I shouldn't really hype it up or anything... ...did I mention the out-of-the-box bjs? -
Jayzis lads I nearly came with the news that this might be a launch title on WiiU. Like Mokong, I was going to get ZombiiU first but wait 'til chrimbo to get the system to begin with. With this news, I may have to make it a deffo-day-one purchase....now to just work on the family to schneak it into the house..... One thing though; has anyone heard rumours or have any suggestions of their own for the touchpad integration? Are we going to have to look down at it for the sentry gun view and will the big screen show an elevated view of the area above said gun perhaps? That would maybe, be a lot of fun methinks. By the way, I know it's been a while since I was here but I swear I've just built an enterprise solution all by myself in work lately and the kids are, well, now three under three but still.....I'm like Sarah Connor at the end of the first Terminator with the whole WiiU thing where the Mexican kid says something and she asks what he said; "There's a storm coming" "I know...." except I'm really looking forward to it and not "I'm thinking apocalypse right now so I ams".... Gotta go, glass is empty...

I was wondering why, for the first time, I had my 3DS telling me that it had to delete a copy of an existing message, twice. Nay worries dude, I'm just glad I get all the messages from all of you guys. I fekin love the ole letterbox me

That Avengers one was amazeballs! Looking forward to the next one

OK so, after playing more than four hours of "Goooooal Euro 2012", I cannot recommend it enough...there's something about it that screams "I'm not worth a fiver" but at the same time, I just cannot stop playing it. Just make sure you have it on arcade with a short fuse on the bomb and no re-spawning. Yes, it's simple, yes you'll be just watching the bottom screen all the time (apart from the quick checks on the upper screen countdown timer) and yes the graphics are functional but....I just can't stop....

It's 81 blocks so small enough... I have the FUN FUN minitouch golf and while it is fun, I don't think it's worth the money. I played the other golf game (brother has it) and it's not as good. Still waiting on a proper golf game for the system

Didn't wait but had a "here's what other peeps who bought this, bought" recommendation after downloading and am pleased to say, go get the DSi game "Goooooal Euro 2012". It's a tabletop spring-football-man game that's pretty damn good in it's own right but there is the added incentive of a "Bomberman" bomb with a long fuse that can be shortened by holding back your little plastic Johnny Giles and waiting while the ball gets increasingly engulfed in flame, before letting fly....oh and the players can be removed from the table if blown up so you could, as happened me, have a four player team instead of the maybe 8 to begin with. Top fun! ...only downside is, it's a fiver...serves me right opening that bottle this evening.

Damn you @Mokong X\-C, I hadn't played a lot of Zen but loved it all the same...now you tell me this is good...and since it has Marvel in it, I've just had to delete two demos off my full SD card to fit this in...mmmmmmarvel.... edit...by the way, I've just bought my first DSi download game. Goooooal Europa 2012 (yes; that many "o"s). It's a twangey plastic man (blue/red) table football game and the video looked pretty good. I may have had a few but this looks bleedin smashin

Thing is, the game went through the royal tree family spat with the "special" child having a hissy fit and flying off in a huff, twice. I'm guessing seeing that whole thing again the next time I was in that level.... Anyways, I've moved on with a new profile for the craic now. I'll give it a go after my new profiles' Savage gets through. He's fun so far with my top combo being "see baddie", "shoot shark-hook-on-a-chain at baddie, pull on chain to a hollywood diving punch on baddie", "clap hands in as Hulk a way as possible with baddie between clap reach", finished off with another Hulk-like "slapping of the hands on the ground in front of you, causing the continent itself to break up below Mr. Baddie" move. Yeah, he's fun

Not sure what to do here... I'm playing as the Alchitect and I've been chatting to the ghost king in the forest who gave me a "tome of antaxaraxis" or sumthing. He asked me to bring it to Eckhart and when I find him in the dingy merchant area, he goes on about something else and doesn't take the tome. I've completed all side quests up to that but the king of Nexus suggests I find a secret lab in the frost area. 'elp! ____________

New Nintendo Direct tomorrow! (JPN & EU!)

Still waiting for my 3DS first person shooter.... -
I'm loving this and I haven't even gone online yet. Thought I'd build up a character first and besides the gradual turning of your attacks from "a bit pathetic" to "THAT'S more like it!", the Zelda-town-esque hub town of Nexus, the infuriating-at-times inventory being "just too small", the "HOLY SH*T THAT'S A BIG GOLUM!...and there's four more...gulp" moments, I've just been playing with a big smile on my face. Best game on 3DS full stop!
