  1. to be really, really honest... I questioned my own sexuality for a time. To do with self-image, and all sorts of crazy shit. I got real scared, thinking "what if i'm gay?" Truth is, it's not a problem asking yourself that. It's really not. Why be afraid of the answers when you are who you are? I'm sure... or like to think i'm sure... that everyone goes through that sort of self-questioning stage. If i'm wrong and it was just me... well i have a girlfriend, two years at the end of this month :P I've answered my own questions and am very happy. I've seen a lot of people come out over the last few years, and usually it coincides with a fresh start - college, or uni, where they can begin their new life without having to cope with too many shocked people. Of course, a few of them it was blatantly obvious that they were gay. One guy, who changed his stance from gay to bi to straight and back again over about 18 months, where another guy just announced he was gay when he went to uni, and a girl who said she was a lesbian in year 6... I do wonder why coming out can be so different for so many people... But I guess it's both a social and a private comfort thing - how comfortable are you with yourself, and with how others see you? The girl in year six couldn't give a shit what others thought of her, where the guy who kept changing his mind (and is THE most camp guy i know) has always struck me as a very superficial guy... .... ok so train of thought is lost now, but i hope some of this was readable.

    Smoking

Good news on the local interchange - but I have to say, even though there are no signs up in the closed front part of the station, I have been asked to put out my cigarette there by security, and also on the platforms- and I was in the open-air part of platform 11 recently. You live near leeds? Fancy going for a pint? I could've sworn you were the guy on c-e who hated masturbation...
  3. yeah, you can. I have a pal at Roehampton who took it - I think they changed the course a bit this year though. You get modules on script, novel, short story and poetry, I think. You learn about structure and form and theories and stuff, and of course you have coursework that is marked based on how you apply what you know. In my second year on my course, I'll be doing a creative writing module on Novel form and the Short Story. I would say if you want to do a course like this, to practice writing when you can. Try carrying a note book, and jot down thoughts, ideas, ramblings, sentances... whatever. Doesn't have to be complete. Just get your juices going. The more you understand how you write the better you'll be able to take on the teachings later Side note - Only about three weeks until us uni folk get results back!

    Smoking

As far as I can tell, smoking is now banned on all stations accross the country, even the open air ones - Which I find ridiculous. In Sydney I observed a similar smoking ban to what we have here, except I think it was more optional - I don't remember. But anyway, stations tehre were smoke-free areas, except for 'designated' parts at the ends of teh platforms behind the "DONT BE SMOKING BIATCH" signs. A lot of pubs around my place in sheffield are proudly presenting their roofed (or slightly covered) beer gardens. Sounds cool to me, a fair alternative - 'till the non smokers complain tehy can't sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. One main thing that I think will happen is that when I go to the pub, it's usually with another smoker and a non-smoker. When we want a fag, we will have to go outside - but should we leave one chap behind or take the whole party and risk losing our seats?
  5. I 'started' drinking probably around 15. If I hadn't done that, and hadn't experienced what I have both personally and vicariously, I wouldn't be as 'sensible' as I am now. It takes a while to get to know your limits, and what to do/avoid. I like my cider, and am known to be the only one drinking in a party of two - but hey, I'm doing damage to none except myself. Except maybe a little too much violence here and there.. I know you can have fun without alcohol, but you know you can have plenty of fun with it too. When I was younger, it opened up me and my mates, so we talked about more personal stuff - it basically brought us closer. Which was nice. My mum knew when I said "going to the beach tonight" or "I'll be staying over at Rob's" that it meant "i'm getting drunk". Parents aren't stupid. She basically confronted me and said "look, I know you're drinking, so just don't lie to me. I'd prefer it if you did it here rather than at the beach, but tell me when you'll be home and be home". So from then, I had gatherings at mine, and we had pizza and films and beer every couple of weeks, and nobody got hurt, raped or molested in any way! Except that once...
  6. you can make your own daemon on that site. Here's mine from ages ago. You can share the link and get others to do the test of your personality for a few days, and it'll change to fit a more accurate animal until the time's over and it'll stay fixed.
  7. He did the wrong thing. Giving in to such tempations are UNCOOL for mates. But what to do now that's the situation? Well I'd probably be pissed off at him for a fair while. How long/much did you like the girl, and how long/much did your friend know this?

    Smoking

I smoke. Started smoking just tobacco about 15 months ago, because I wanted to give up weed. I don't do it to look cool - I don't really think anyone does it to 'look' cool. What is this, the 80's? But smoking can be social at college and at work - a sub-culture of people who have nothing in common but smoking almost feels like a minority group! We all have to be the baddies in the work place, so we can all complain together at break times I don't get all that passive smoking stuff. I mean, sure, I try to smoke away from people and not breathe it at them because that's the polite thing to do - but I don't need random people who come and stand next to me to tell me my smoking is killing them, or me. Why do people smoke? Because they're addicted. Physically, as well as mentally. Why do they start is the main thing - I'm sure peer pressure is a large part; the social interaction everyone experiences is how you justify social and moral rights and wrongs. You can blame 'peer pressure' in that sense for a hell of a lot more than just smoking - drinking, crime, racism for a start. I had my first cigarette when I was about 16, while drunk. My mate told me "it makes getting drunk better!" and in a sense, it does. That little extra high... But, of course, you soon trade in that fun high for... no registerable affect besides a daily cough. I'm not saying I don't know it's bad for me, i'm just saying it's my choice. I do my best to make sure I don't affect anyone else. I understand the new smoking ban, and think it's fair enough - but shouldn't there be facilities for smokers too? If a pub or a club has two rooms not connected? And I don't understand why railway stations open to the air are now non-smoking areas.. Doesn't stop me, I know. But I figure so long as i keep it away from anyone else - go to the end of the platform or something - it's ok. and Magic Buttons - it sounds to me like alcohol is more of a problem in your household. Don't confuse the two, and don't think anyone who drinks and/or smokes behaves like the people you know.
  9. I really hope that's not true.. I mean, I don't think the british press would do that. Isn't the main reason this came to light because of the Portuguese police's poor handling of the case at the start? And once it's known... well heck. Our country loves to have a little kid in danger every few years. Not meaning to take any of this lightly, but I think much of the public reads the news in the same fashion they watch a soap. Nobody wants to hear about the serious, world-affecting news as much as they want to be entertained - I think many parents are 'entertained' by news such as this because they can read it and realise how much better off they are, as opposed to reading about the new budget, for instance. Now, Maddie going missing, in my eyes, is absolutely none of my business. Sure if i spot her in the Leeds town centre I'll give the right number a bell, but knowning what her parents did, where she went in portugal is useless to me. As is the maddie chain mail going around, and the facebook group. Maybe one day when I have a child I'll see this differently...
  10. .... the americans don't want those damn commies having all the fun! yeah so it's like four years old. SUE ME.
  11. Maybe his problem is he can't actually find the smudge tool? Hold the left-cleck over the sharpen tool and it should be in the mini-menu that comes out.. right?
  12. that was taken about two days after i had an eye operation about three years ago. Straight after the op my pupil was totally dilated so it was a red eyeball with a black hole in the middle. Looked awesome. Couldn't go outside for like 2 weeks though. But the codeine they gave me had 'mild euphoria' as a listed side-effect. It was awesome!
  13. i bet that'll be their worst selling issue for a fair while...
  14. just watch coronation street?
  15. Jimmy Eat World - Clarity Brand New - Deja Entendu ... All I can think of :/
  16. Does your girlfriend know she'll be a widow the same day she's a bride?
  17. it's a can of diamond white cider - and a post-it note in my jumper saying "I <3" do you seeeee! ... i heart ciderrrr... yes.
  18. I don't honestly see why anyone doesn't like some aspect of teh beatles. They evolved massively in their years. I like Helter Skelter, Here Comes The Sun, Get Back, Come Together and I Am The Walrus. I've not listened to all the albums properly so i can't say that that's all I like of them.... But i'm certain that everyone can find at least one song by them that they can enjoy.
  19. lol... well the general 'consensus' is that their old sound wasn't just a raw sound, but a raw band, and that waiting two years instead of one to record a new album has meant they've grown up and focused on making an Album, instead of 11 songs. I do agree that they have grown up - i mean, when it takes more than one listen to enjoy a song, it is a better song. But I think they've lost their honest country style and traded it in for a more mainstream sound, with some country as a back-up. Shame, but ultimately quite listenable.
  20. 6/10.. i have no idea who that is :P
  21. lol, i agree! They look strange without them. What do you think of their musical 'evolution'?
  22. I honestly think the Fratellis are hugely overrated. Sure they're 'cool', but there;s only like 3 songs on their album that i can listen to more than once a day. And, after what I said to platty ages ago... The latest Kings of Leon album has indeed grown on me after multiple plays. While it's not the same, young-feeling band that it was before, it does sound good.
  23. Why burn poor and lonely under a bowl or under a lampshade Or on the shelf beside the bed Where at night you lay turning like a door on its hinges?... First on your left side, then on your right side...then your left side again. Why burn poor and lonely? Tell all the stones we're gonna make a building... We'll be cut into shape and set into place Or if you'd rather be a window, I'll gladly be the frame, Reflecting any kind words, we'll let in all their blame... And ruin our reputation all the same. So never mind our plan making, we'll start living... Anyway, aren't you unbearably sad? Then why burn so poor and lonely? -mewithoutYou - Torches Together that'll do for now. mewithoutYou are an awsomely lyric'ked band. The guy speaks the words, not songing them. It takes a few songs to get used to but then you start to feel that what he speaks about is hugely important to him. Plus, it's poetic genius.
