roffles! Well hey, Shorty, if you are serious I can give you a home, work and telephone number :P There are no pictures (actually... no anything) on her profile so no way of, ahem, figuring her 'personality' out. Enough of my mum.. I've seen yours and heard the barking noises. Rawr!

A typical chapter is generally around 1500 - 2000 words. Of course there is absolutely no authorative rule about doing all of this, but don't be afraid to put chapters together or piss about with it all You've done all the hard work - I am counting on you to do the same for my story when I put it up (within the next two months :P)
-
From the rest of your messages, do you think humans are anything BUT stupid? What is your definition of stupid? If there is no intelligence but just stupidity, then doe stupidity itself exist :P? Sorry but i just think saying "humans are stupid" is disregarding the individual. I think intelligence does little but dwindle with the more people you put in the room, but that does not mean there is not the potential or capacity for things to be different.

I think the 5 years later episode was never really intended to cover all eventualities in the next 4 series of the show :P Considering they don't even finish writing the individual episodes when the season starts... Mokong - you're totally right about what you said in response to my post. Bob said it, and thus could be shady about it - still hard to say whether adam or bob are good or bad. And surely Adam will remember Hiro for teh show's sake! What he means by changing the future... ooh well I don't know! It just sounds like the series is getting better. ... aaaand I still think there will be more explanation about Parkman's missing months. I'm just glad I stuck with the show through the first 6 eps. They weren't seriously shite, but they're definitely upping the pace now.

All 'cept the cousin are acceptable if you actually fancy them, I guess. Cousin is... well would you not be afraid of the mutations!!!!

I know :P I was trying to get you to elaborate on what you meant. By this you mean that everything, not 'things', originates from a point in time, of which we do not understand, that followed an occurance in time and space where nothing/everthing was completely different. I think when we're talking about objects in this universe, they surely only exist as they do in this universe. Before this 'big bang' the universe was a different thing, where nothing as we know it existed. everything in this universe began with the beginning of the universe, surely? It is true, our mind has a desire to make sense of the unsensible. I think we are basing our knowledge quest on the solidity of science - that there are rules and therefore answers for how the universe works. Once you start saying that science is actually ridiculous, you're starting to see why christians aren't phased by any scientific arguments! Which side are you on? You say "stubborn and unable to look beyond our own stupidity" as if that is exactly what everyone ever does. What you mean by 'stupidity' is the limitations of the human mind, of the imagination - so say so! Because truthfully, the imagination is a very powerful tool. It defies any known logic about how the universe works and acts as a sandbox to which you can act out potentials and possibilities that you cannot practice. And surely whatever the current idea of the big bang, of the shape of the world, of how light works... surely we need these ideas for the more successful counter-ideas. If you don't have something to question then how are you going to find the correct, or better answer? But the universe did begin once :P just the same way aristotle (or pythagoras? :S) said you can never hit the tortoise with an arrow, just as that last molecule of water overflows the glass... Of course, surely the moment where it all 'happened' was ages long - time surely was not as it is today, and probably completely irrelevant. And stuff.

How many gamecube games you have left
jayseven replied to Kirbii's topic in General Gaming Discussion
If you fancy selling these games for a nice price, send me a PM PLAY IT. I bought it on a friday, fell ill so played it quite a lot over the weekend and by monday I was better but had to bunk the day to finish it. I love games with cameras in. It reminded me, perhaps in an artistic way, of Jet Force Gemini. Only really annoying thing? Make sure you collect everything before you fully upgrade your ship, as once you do, there's no going back... -
Got me 4 pre owned Gamecube games for £20 from Gamestation
jayseven replied to Pete's topic in General Gaming Discussion
.. sounds to me like you got two games for twenty. Turok Evolution and Fifa are just... dire. was 1080 7.99 as well? If so then consider the other games as a rental, and you've definitely got your money's worth :P 1080 Avalanche has a really decent soundtrack, and although it doesn't feel as hardcore as teh N64 original, it's quite playable... Perhaps too easy. I'm a sucker for buying multiple games at once. Really need to learn that it doesn't work. I've got probably at least 4 games for the GC i've never played and at least 5 more that I've not played for more than an hour or so. I just bought 5 Xbox games recently and I've only played a couple of them. MUST LEARN! -
Human stupidity is a bit too broad to cover general human greed and selfishness, which surely is a larger factor in the inability to successfully implement Communism than mere stupidity? Plus there's more than two things that are infinite :P *votes for unfair use of quote*

I'll admit I've only read the first halves of teh first two parts of your chapter 6 so far... But again I want to stress the importance of showing not telling Saying she felt a "surge of emotion" could be improved by showing just how this happens. Imagine seeing it acted out on stage, tv or film. How would the audience be able to see this surge? Does she squeeze her eyes tight for a couple of blinks? Hug harder? A flickering smile? 'Showing and not telling' is, in my experience, easiest to do with the emotion the character is feeling. Imagine you are sitting at dinner and you are angry with your parents about something. you could write "Jim was angry with his dad" or you could write "Jim's jaw was clenched as his knife cut up his food into smaller and smaller portions, eyes burning a hole into a spot on the wall dead ahead. His parents were saying something in an annoyed tone but Jim wasn't listening." .. It may take a few more words, or in many cases less, but it feels more rounded and makes the imagination picture the scene more as an actual moment in time, rather than a fleeting thing that bears no importance. "The atmosphere in the house felt cold and sad" - good, but again hard to really imagine. Show it! The pictures on the mantlepiece tinted with bygone happiness? All you can hear is the crackling of the fire? To set the scene, work with the senses. What can she smell in the house? What can she hear? What can she see? if you want to write an epic story as this sounds like it's going to be, then be not afraid of lengthy ramblings! Much better to write too much than too little. I have not once questioned your story. Only you can be critical enough to look over it all and decide if you've wasted any set pieces or not, and it's not really easy or advisable to do it this early on. That's the general advice. Show, don't tell. Use physical descriptions to give hints and clues as to what the character is feeling; use the senses to portray the scenery. I think your dialogue is quite strong. I find it really hard to write in different tones for different characters, and harder still to try and be aware of using different levels and amounts of vocabulary for them, too. I always try to imagine I am that person... But unless I've already pictured one of my friends or family, or someone i've met as that character it's hard to imagine what they'd say in a given position. how long do you take to write each section?

Wait - so the rest of the winners of other catagories in your movie awards will be decided by you? Hmmm :P -
I don't know... That's a great, but maybe slightly different discussion. I mean, the whole idea of Plato's Forms and shit. His idea was our human catagorising process inflicted upon the universe. Everything was once some sort of 'nothing' - but in actuality, before a tree was a tree, or a person was a person, or a planet was a planet they were just smaller bits floating around, or a part of something else. The argument is about the distinction between these smaller building blocks and the forms they take. The smaller things themselves may be eternal, but the forms they make are not. Also the whole concept of time is brought into question in regards to beginnings and endings. we do not percieve time in a constant way anyway. We need things like clocks which are built to be show us regular patterns which we can link to time - our brain is not as regular as that. Whether the universe is actually one moment flowing into another, inot another, with no true past or present, or if it is actually all moments at once and our perception of time is some sort of journey, like a sculpture's chisel through marble, is impossible to tell. What things do not need a beginning?

http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=26092 In Anime-Related newz... Just watched that second Bleach filmwith the Memory Rosary. What's a rosary? I always wonder when watching bleach just how deep it's supposed to be, and whether I should begin to wonder about purgatory, and how fair it is to kill a blanc soul. And, of course, imagining I were a regular citizen watching Ichigo running past shouting to himself with his arms holding (quoting Shorty) an invisible backpack is always a gem of a though. Now I've seen that I'll try and catch up with the series properly.

Actually I'm sure I saw a CCTV camera in Adam's room.. I wondered why on earth the security hadn't spotted them talking! It seemed to be that the show was trying to show that Peter believed he was more harm than help to anyone.. But yeah, surely he would've at least have wanted a phone call? But then, why did he dissapear from the hospital in the way he did? Maybe you could argue he was just a trigger for a gun that was already loaded... More evidence to say that Bob really does want to help, and that his tactics are just a bit rusty? Indeed it's a bit up and down with him. Clearly connected to a company with un-PC ways of dealing with people with powers. He himself has some, and has experience with the previous generation of guys - but because we know nothing about that generation it's hard to say who was 'good' or bad. Maybe they all just had differing ideas of how to 'save the world'. I don't like how Bob treats people with powers like statistics. He seems to think that powers are good, but not all of them. I guess he doesn't believe that there's any 'purpose' of them, that they really are just some sort of evolutionary occurance and that some will be unwanted. Adam said that linderman was his protegé, but didn't he also say something about linderman going about it the wrong way? To be honest, I really can't remember what 'way' linderman went about anything much :S But I'm sure I have the impression that he was a bit shady and underhand. I don't think Adam planned sending Hiro back. If hiro hadn't gone back in time, Kensei would've fought those guys on the horses instead of Hiro zapping him away, and hiro wouldn't have had to spend 7 episodes correcting that mistake. I think the whole Adam/Bob thing, along with Sylar too (and is there still a guy with Bug-controlling powers, or is that sylar.. still confused about that) is going to (hopefully) be a largely uncertain factor. Who is good? Who is bad? Is there a right and a wrong? That is a total mystery to me too :P Well she was working with linderman before, so is she working with Bob's company now? I can't recall. Maybe that's a third party, still to enter in Chapter 3? From a (pretty damn) vague knowledge of blood, it's not as simple as doing one test and getting every single characteristic in one print-out... maybe it depents on teh testing? Maybe it relates to time the blood is exposed and alien to the home body? Who knows! I still like to think that Adam and Claire's abilities are different. Yeah I found it odd that the people who were going to load the container with the stuff the irish were looking for, actually not only failed to notice peter in teh container but also failed to flipping load it! Maybe another flashback episode to come? I dunno The whole virus thing is still confusing to me. The Puerto Ricans (shit, I can never remember which country they're from...) must have some sort of role besides meeting sylar along the way. Maybe he kills one of them, whatever, but they're surely important either in the spreading or the potential prevention of the virus. Maybe sylar kills the brother, and somewhere along the way has a change of heart about being evil and teams up with petrelli and co. Maybe he kills teh girl and accidentally triggers it... maybe peter does a Ted again... Too many options! Loooooooooong post. Sorry.

The thing is, there surely cannot ever be complete and utter evidence for the existence of God - the whole idea of christianity is that you have faith; you're placing your existence into the hands of something unfathomable, and to some extent uncertain. If there was ultimate truth to say LOOK THIS IS GOD!! then.. well everyone would be saved, and there would be no point at all in the trial of life on earth, would there? If there is a God, benevolent or not, he would want his clique to be full of souls who do not question his existence (which is what Lucifer did) and not unbalance the stability of whatever heaven is. I don't think anyone should ever feel forced to accept any God or religion. It should not be the fear of hell but the joy of heaven that should tempt (lol) you to believe. Pascal's Wager (I think it is) is always worth a thought One thing that totally rocks about being alive? Knowledge. Understanding or at least trying to fit the puzzle pieces together in some sort of mushy way in your mind to make a kind of sense. It's empowering. But the search for knowledge should never remove the question of "if". Even when you know that, for instance, the earth is round, you should not suddenly build up a barrier around the possibilities of what the world would be like if it was flat. You can follow that trail of thought as far as you like, and like I do about God, talk about it loads and loads, but it never means you have to believe it. Yeah. The mind is a powerful tool, so what's wrong with imagining that there really is a god and that he really is a clever git from time to time? It's highly amusing to imagine how it is he's connived the world to be so far, and to imagine what his goal really is in terms of Humans, or the universe, or our souls or whatever. ... That's enough from meeeee...

I was up 'til 10.30am watching Skins. Not the best show EVER but enjoyable nonetheless Bill Bailey tonight... still not sure how we're getting there. Just had a ham, mustard, mayo and chili-pepper sandwich and it was genius!

Wasn't that episode 20, 5 years in the future? I think the general feeling I got there was that he got better
-
well hey, wait 'til you're nearly 21 and able to say the same thing but with an extra 3 years of crappy experience! I'm sure some of the elders on this forum will reaffirm this notion with an increased year-count.

Ok, what i've been trying to say is, what do you know? If you did something last night, did it pan out? Any results in the morning? Why was what you did inconclusive?
