The problem with the death penalty for murder is, for a start, a lot of innocent people are sent down for murders they did not commit - look at the Jill Dando murder, for a start. As for you saying more crimes will occur due to addiction... well that's a misunderstanding of why addicts steal in the first place, and also a huge generalisation. A lot the addicts who commit crimes are seriously interested in seeking help, but hugely aware that their record prevents them from getting any non-NHS treatment. Legalisaton would lead to a market where dealers would not be able to say "you iz hooked, so I'm gonna increase how much your hit will cost". Drug dealers charge different prices, depending upon whether the customer is desperate or not, and they often charge more when they know that the customer feels like the dealer is doing them a favour. Sure, there's no denying that some people may still steal to feed their habit - but to be honest, there are people out there stealing to feed their computer games habit, their shoe shopping habit or whatever.

aren't we a bit late trying to save the ritual killings this year? I mean, they do this every year. It always sucks... But at this rate we'll all forget by the time they do it again next year.

I agree with ashley about a lot of things - primarily, when we saw Hiro arrive in feudal japan, I was hoping it would be a couple of episodes at most, with the action focusing heavily on his story... instead it's been spread over every episode so far.. I think it's clear that a massive virus (thanks to sylar/that girl) will be the main thing... but so far, as it has been said, the characters are too disjointed and disconnected from each other. I think partly the fact that nathan has just totally become an alcoholic and forgotten his roles both in society and in terms of the heroes... I think if he actually became a senator, and if we had heroes relating off of him, we'd have a better series so far. Having said that, I still think that the episodes can only improve, as we're going to watch the heroes all come together.. Maybe the fact that there's no minor adversary to overcome each episode, we're left feeling as if nothing hsa happened.

I hope you haven't been screwing around with anyone I know back in brighton! :P

You said that the level of offense does not translate - anything negative said of mohammed is blasphemous... and you talk of misunderstandings across cultures. This is a situation where both sides fail to understand how the other culture works. Which side is right? Which side takes precedent? Neither, of course. I like your idea of everyone understanding and respecting each other, but in truth it wouldn't stop offense if nobody is willing to compromise. And surely, in a multi-ethnical, multi-cultural world, compromise is essential for us all to get along?

Typing without really knowing where it's going isn't always a bad thing. My lecturers have been keen to point out that you should let your characters write the novel, and not try to control them too much. So from that, I think that if you get stuck with anything, or feel you are steering things towards a very generic story at all, maybe work on character profiles - work on their psysiology, their socio-economic background (even in a fantasy, that would need to be looked at) and their psychological aspects. If you think you would know the answer your character would give for any question, then your character is complete .. But having said that! It seems like you know what your characters are like, and that you know where the plot is going. You agree that descriptions are a finicky problem, but I think that the more you write in your first draft, the better your second draft will be. Never be afraid of cutting entire chunks out, or completely altering parts. But you will not know which parts to do, nor will anyone else really, until the whole thing is done!! But hey, if you ever think you've gotten a publishing deal, give me a bell and I'll be your editor Look forward to the next chapter! And I look forward to getting your comments on my piece which will be on this forum come january, roughly 4500 words :P

I have recurring themes... Swimming, swimming naked, teeth falling out, something stuck inside my finger... COme up quite a lot. I've been able to get lots of extra stolen sleep recently, and I think the feeling I awake with tells me that I've had dreams about working towards solving a problem. I think in my real life, my problems are (if not being solved..) certainly fading into the past through forgetfullness What recurring dreams do you have? I feel these, and those seriously vivid dreams you have, are the more interesting. Everyone has weird dreams and to be honest it's tiring reading them.

I've only seen the first 4 episodes! You say the second series loses the feel of the first? Does it acquire a new one, though? And what about the third?

I think that cartoon was a good example of mis-informed offence. I mean, if you take offence to something like that, you ought to look up the meaning behind the image, and verify what is being declared as "truth" by whoever it is that you respect enough to ignore your own idea of pursuing the truth. Yah.

I like Go quite a lot too - but I'm rather poo at it, and recently the prospect of a 40-minute+ game has been putting me off playing. Chess I like too - really want to find someone who is willing to play me all the time. If anyone here has facebook, PM me and I can link you to a chess application where we can play a 'letter' game - take it in turns to play, no time limit. Mafia thread is awesome too :P I recommend players to read the wiki article for clues!! :P As for proper games... Like Eevilmurray, I like polarium. Got it for £6 and it was definitely worth it. Picross is ace! Not too tricky. Sudoku is good but sometimes I look at the numbers make some weird sort of "ding" noise in my head and I feel like i'm turning into a computer, or something... Anyone played that mastermind board game? Nice little puzzler. I think puzzle games (which I'm using to envelop everything mentioned in this thread, rather harshly!) have always been one of my favourite genres. Does Risk count? I've never played the actual board game but I've played Isle Wars a bit and the whole armies/territory this is the same but on a smaller scale, and good fun.

Jean Charles de Menezes' Case: Your Thoughts
jayseven replied to Falcon_BlizZACK's topic in General Chit Chat
Sacrificing one person to guarentee the safety of others, but killing someone who actually posed no threat is wrong, innit. It was a mistake. That's the truth of it, and there's no point trying to justify it when no greater good was achieved. What's important is whether you still think the police are doing a good job of protecting you, whether you still feel safe living your lives. -
.. but I fucking told you I wasn't in the mafia, bitches!

aw dude put that in spoiler tags dante!

THe song was catatonia... I know that's not what you wanted :P David Duchovny's character's sister was abducted or someshit. Scully was always the sceptic, disbelieving in aliens and any really weird goings on. It was a typical 'monster of the week' sort of show, where people with strange powers would show up, kill someone or something, and the agents would investigate and sort of find the dude missing and never really be able to solve the case - or solved it too logically for what happened. Then there's the guy who always smoked who came in and hinted that he knew what happened with Mulder's sister, or something. In the end they all had babies and raced pigs!

*jayseven wishes chairdriver's write-ups were a bit more accurate* So Mcoy, WHAT ABOUT SAYING WAHT YOU HAVE OBSERVED BEFORE? You were so quick to point this out, so maybe Darksnowman was right about you being the telepath? Makes sense, what with your house talking and all that jazz. Would explain why, once you couldn't control me anymore, you immediately put my name up for nomination. You don't know who I was originally aiming for. The use of syntax in that post clearly shows that the "goon" chairdriver describes is a different person to the man that killed haggis.
-
... Did you not read my following posts. Honestly, sometimes it really seems like people just read what they want to read. Er... There was no mind control in that kill. READ IT BETTER. Mcoy still seems to not read all the posts properly and selects what he wants to believe. Mcoy ignores any reasoning behind any acts that have happened, and overlooks the RANDOMIZER element of such abilities. Mcoy misunderstands how USEFUL a townie that can dispose of the mafia is, and forgets to THANK anyone for actually ridding the town of any mafia at all, and fails to be aware that if it wasn't for those accused, there would be two more mafia around, and the game could even be over already due to a controlling majority. GAH TO YOU. POST WHAT YOU KNOW ALREADY. STOP AVOIDING THAT.
-
Haggis had to recruit members for his mafia, and paj was already one. Revealing we're townies too soon leaves us as targets to the mafia. At this stage in the game, where the townies/mafia ratio must be so close, it's safer.
-
.. No i mean they were in different mafias... from each other, that is.
-
Look. If i'm in the mafia, why would I kill haggis and paj, mafiosos from rival gangs!
-
Vote Thunderer. Ditto, sanchez. His cackling in the night, the weird book from the mafia library he has, the "i told you so" with rokhed... Thank you for the benefit of a doubt Oh, Mcoy, seriously, I want to hear you grovel and apologise when you see I'm NOT IN THE MAFIA.
-
Meh it's alright. I wanted to make a thread about an italian football match but the mighty football thread looms over me, and threatens to stab me in the nipples.
-
Anyone would say you're paranoid Actually, I suspect shorty myself. All his quietness and WEIRD LOOKS AND SUPRESSED GRINS. G.r, EH? You're saying more mafia are voting for me than townies? THEN SAY SO!
-
Don't pick and choose. Rokhed was a friend, and he was innocent. You saying that all my friends are bad? You're wrong.
-
And the problem with that thread is X-files fans would not necessarily know about the news if it was only posted there :/

ReZ died because the telepath dude wanted him to. Maybe he was mistaken, maybe not. I don't believe he ever hid in your house. The information I had on you comes from another friend.
