  1. You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, set-top boxes, video or DVD recorders, computers or mobile phones to watch or record TV programmes as they are being shown on TV. If you use a set-top box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence. ^that's from the official site, and it simply says that so long sa you don't watch or record programmes as they're being shown, you don't need a licence. Regardless of how well your tv shows static. That's exactly what I said in a previous post
  2. Yeah I don't got freeview :P
  3. The TV licence office told me you don't have to pay if you have no areal attached :/
  4. Fancy dress.. Am I missing the costume idea here :|
  5. other quotes from that site... They're not very specific :P I really don't believe that any of those rules are accurate. You are totally legally allowed to own a TV and use it to watch DVDs or play games without requiring a license. The last two sound like some bizarrre twisting of those train announcements...
  6. Man, I'm sorry but most answers here have not compared to how lonely I've felt sometimes. Bullshit about having friends but feeling ok when you're alone - this is not loneliness. It's about feeling like there are absolutely no connections, and that there is no chance of any future connections with anyone living, with anyone worth caring about. It's the feeling, regardless of dying and knowing nothing yourself anymore, that nobody alive would give a shit. As for making the effort to stretch my hand out and make new friends... Always easier said than done. You make new friends by being associated with someone in some way; thrust into the same worldly conditions that in a kindly way force you to interact. Hobbies, interests are one. Work, education are another. Depending on your situation, certain avenues will be cut off. Depending on your physical and psychological situation, others may be as well. If someone says they are lonely, I do not feel that it is wholly fair to turn to them and say "WELL FUCKING GET OUT A BIT MORE FFS", because that is just not helpful. In my experience so far, very little is helpful :P I know that I need to meet more people in order to earn more friends, but that does not mean that I have the self-belief to truly believe that people would want to be my friends, given how I am right now. Everyone needs a social network to help deal with life. Sometimes it is harder to build such a system. Personally, where I am in my life, there is no certified way of making any new friends tomorrow, or this week. So why should I immediately feel better for the advice of "go get more friends"? I feel fucking lonely. I feel lonely every hour of the day, and I love my own company - but there are so many factors involved. SO yeah, that's part of how I feel right now, and I don't really feel like any of you seem to understand without being patronising and above it all. I do know how I can make myself feel better, but factors such as university work, self-confidence and actual possibility, along with those physical and psychological boundaries affect just simply reaching out and converting a stranger into a friend. Loneliness is not about the choice of being by yourself, but about the total inability to change the state of being alone.
  7. pfft. Me and shorty would house you for the night, at least! You can crash on our sofa.
  8. Was trying to watch it but it didn't stream very well for me :/ I guess I'll try to watch it on BBCi's download thingey when it's out, or watch it when it's out... but I guess not if it's not on BBC3, that is.
  9. looks like I need to find new cult members elsewhere... ONWARD MARCH MY LEGION!
  10. BOOYAH! downloading crappy real player now to see the first ep. Will it be on BBC3 first then?
  11. I've been, for 4 out of 5 days every week at least, promoting the idea of a lower standard of hair in public places. I feel that bed-hair shows a lot of character, which is more than can be said for a lot of people, even if the character is apparantly "lazy", it is still a character that is willing to tell the WORLD who they are. Be proud.
  12. pfff. I lived through THE GREAT STORM OF EIGHTYSEVEN! I knew bad weather down south, boyo. Seaside town = sea winds, sea mist, sea hell. ... Ok so maybe hella worse off in the north sea and shit. But I think you foo' to think the south is all creamy meadows and rabbits singing as the sun shines
  13. I do - we studied the origins of the novel last year, gave a new appreciation to a lot of things. We study language, literature and creative writing, and I want to follow the creative writing aspect and I find that all the modules seem to help each other out - learning about points of view and narrative in language, then can apply them in creative writing, and can learn about the whole 'larger picture' side of things from literature in terms of allegorical, anagogical and whatever. SO yeah, it's fairly good fun - I have no idea what the fuck to do after this though. What are you doing? Is this for A-Levels?
  14. English studies - this is an essay in my drama module. It's a pdf, if I can remember which one it is.. Most of the essay is how gogo and didi represent judaism and orthodox christianity but there's a good chunk on pozzo and lucky. I'll try beaming it to ya.
  15. planes? Trains? Automobiles? :P
  16. Ah, decent question! I know a bit about that from couple of periodicles i've read - He could be said to represent civilisation. I can dig up a particular article if you wish? wahey! and I got a mention in it - woo for me :P
  17. wow. I counted 33 people. This is epic. Big C mc'D - I hope this isn't too much work for you!
  18. It is sorta :P If you want to make sure you're eligible to give blood, check out this set of questions on the NBS site.
  19. Yo yo - Any particular info on Smallville? They're filmed in canada, so does that mean the canadian guild has joined in?
  20. It's pretty cool. You go in, read a bunch of materials, sign a waiver, they prick your finger and test your blood to see if it's got the t-virus in -- if not, you go and wait a bit, then they get you to lie down and talk to you all chatty and nice and stuff, then they stick a needle in AND TURN THE VACUUM ON.. er.. well they just ask you to squeeze your hand into a fist for a few mins. Weird feeling. Took me like 3 mins to give a pint - pretty quick apparantly. It's fun to watch the blood packets rock back and forwards to stop the blod coagulating. Free biscuits/crisps/juice usually, too, which is always a plus. Oh, and you get to watch some people faint! Ace. Then a few weeks later they send you a congratz letter and a blood-donor card which details your blood type. I'm o-, I think. Quite the commoner.
  21. SO liek Bill Bailey is playing at the Sheffield Hallam Arena, anyone going? ... And would anyone like to go? My break-up has kinda left me with a spare ticket. Me and Shorty and his missus are going, so it could be a meet-up of sorts Centre block of seats, 10th row, £26. And, uh, yeah.
  22. So the costs are going to be passed onto the consumers, you reckon? And what happened last time there was a strike? Was TV full of repeats?
  23. :'( It's always the boobs that let me down.
  24. It's me isn't it? Honey, how many times.. we just can't do it. It's just NOT RIGHT. .. sorry.
