Mafia Game #3 - Stranded in Mushroom Kingdom
jayseven replied to chairdriver's topic in General Chit Chat
I have two names in my PM - one targeted another... but at this stage it is impossible to tell whether either of them is good or evil. I couldn't see any clues in the write-up to link the names I have with any roles yet. How about you guys? -

Mafia Game #3 - Stranded in Mushroom Kingdom
jayseven replied to chairdriver's topic in General Chit Chat
Last night all I saw was... who someone targeted. Not very useful at the moment, maybe it will be later! There's no point just coming on here and asking what everyone found if I didn't share. -
Ok, got you :P Well I think you should look for Senses Fail and maybe Element Eighty and Finch and see how that fares.. Placebo ought to be worth a look too Enjoy! Yeah two bands :P Mindless Self Indulgence and Clinical Torment. Bit EBM-ish, slightly moreso than Zeromancer, another, slightly industrial, ace band.

Which songs do you have? I'm guessing... "The Middle", "Bleed American [salt Sweat Sugar]" and... maybe "Pain" or "Sweetness"? Their album Bleed American (actually self-titled after 9/11) is solid enough; houses "The Middle" and "Sweetness" along with one of my favourites "A Praise Chorus". Their earlier album Clarity is my favourite - "Lucky Denver Mint", "Blister", "Just watch the fireworks", a cover of "For Me This is Heaven", "12.23.95" and the soothing, 16-minute long "Goodbye Sky Harbour". As for other artists you ought to listen to, I whole-heartedly recommend Brand New and their albums Deja Entendu and The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me. May take a couple of listens to really appreciate but trust me, you will. "old school" emo like Jimmy means a mention of The Ataris and the album So Long, Astoria - "In This Diary", a cover of "The Boys of the Summer" and "Unopened Letter to the world" are good. I used to listen to the above bands a lot a few years ago. I also listened at the time to The Used, Finch, Thrice, Three Doors Down, Thursday, The Acadamy Is... (Check out their song "Classifieds"[/i]. Definitely Finger Eleven too don't forget audioscrobb-- I mean last.fm! my profile is here and it's not really been updated for nearly two years now. Do you like, I dunno... All American Rejects? Senses Fail? Do you want melodic stuff like Wood or slightly screamo like Cauterize or Eighteen Visions? So yeah, say what other stuff you like and I'll give you some more refined suggestions.

What are people's ideas on Mindless Self Indulgence and Clinical Torment? What else would I like if I like these?

That's kind of my point :P There are no absolutes. I study literature and as part of my module on children's literature next semester I actually have to study a Potter book. I've read all of them and I like them - I understand that they are not excellent books, but I can also understand that if someone has enjoyed them, they don't have to do so whilst bearing in mind "lol this is crap relly". I stand by my earlier point - if you think someone's music taste is in desperate need of bettering, then lend them a hand. Show them the 'way' and recommend something you think deserves to be liked. Stepping stones!

I too think that it's psychological. These conversations with god are a way of listening to your own conscience. I've actually tried to have a chat with the big G a couple of times, during a panic attack once too. It was calming to sort of feel like I was putting myself in someone elses hands, to believe there was some great protector making sure I'd be alright was soothing - even though really I was just tapping into that part of my mind that knew I was going to survive, that this wouldn't kill me. My ex-girlfriend's flatmate managed to get her to have an interest in christianity, and as such I went with them to an Alpha Course a couple of times. It was interesting to see what sort of close-reading they were doing, and how they interpreted parts of the bible. They were shocked when I was the first person each time to see what the extract was supposed to mean, and surprised that I seemed to actually know a bit about it all. I think it's good that you went in with an open mind and weighed up evidence yourself. I think it's important for everyone to do this - specifically I worry about those brought up not to question the scripture. I'm still a skeptic. I respect the Bible for the morality it's tried to teach, and I think the guidence religion offers isn't a bad thing. But the scare-tactics about going to hell if you fail to believe... well that's unfair! :P

So what is this objective measurement you've been using? You could argue that good music is music that stands the test of time; that is influential to the next generations of music or even other arts. But how do you define the test of time? Does that mean it's impossible to have good underground music? Do you define good music by number of fans? Number of people who like it? Do you only consider the future 'good' music when working out which musical influences are good, and ignore all genres that are somehow rubbish? I can see what you mean - surely everyone knows that Crazy Frog is not music... but my nine year old cousin LOVES that song and the Tweenies album. It's not necessarily great music, but it's influenced her to want to learn to play an instrument, and is that stepping stone towards listening to more music as you get older. I like Jimmy Eat World. I like Kings of Leon, Brand New, We Are Scientists. Bands some here will say are utter shite for whatever reason they think, but they each have songs which mean something to me, and that's all that matters to anyone - their own opinion. Just don't mistake this as being all my music taste is :P

How can I put this... I think homophobes are kind of backwards. I think the inability to see someone beyong their race, gender, culture or creed is ignorant. I'm not saying it is illegal, but perhaps suggesting that you could philosophically quite easily prove it to be morally wrong to dislike someone for such a non-specific reason. I think that society would be a lot better if we hate people for who they are, not what they are. It's not about what you are or are not allowed to think, more about why you ought not think that stuff! Justifications. I also think that educating youngsters about this ideal is not a bad thing, and is no more brainwashing than any lesson on the curriculum. Literally, yes. Thoughts cannot directly affect anything. You can't move anything by thought alone -- but thought leads to actions. All actions have consequences, and if you live your life not thinking about the consequences then you are, in my eyes, ignorant. So are you saying you have racist and homophobic thoughts, but you're not racist or a homophobe?

I looked for the proof that I spoke of and it turns out the qoute is unconfirmed from the June edition of Shonen Jump magazine. Go figure :/ Re-read a couple of your posts on the matter and you do indeed say you don't think there is an answer, so on that we can agree - I guess I just see the parts of your post where you say "if haku's a boy then i'm gay", or "I don't blame those who think she is male, some people are just born stupid like that" as stupid things to say when you think the argument is meaningless. You don't need to be provocative with insults when the discussion itself is riveting enough :P

like Iun said, there's a lot of scenarios which turns this way of thinking onto it's head. I think the right to be individual is massively important, and individuals who do not see the same way are wrong :P As oxymoronic as that statement is, I think it makes a kind of sense. You're saying the nazi's had the right to believe the jews and blacks and gays were lower than them. That mentality does not stay in the head - it comes out in actions subconsciously, surely? I think the campaign is alright No point sitting back and letting 13+ year olds work out for themselves, because quite frankly they're still learning about the world and are hugely impressionable by their peers. And stuff. Poorly written post, this.

Well said Eenuh. Jordan: If the joke was funny it wouldn't've been a problem :/ FLINKY! Your girl problems sound more like friend problems; sounds like it's the Ed Factor which is all that is bothering you. Maybe have a serious chat with him, sort of letting him know that you think you and the girl might hve something special and that it would be unfair to not give it a go just because Ed's gonna sulk. MY DAY! Well my last few days... Went to Huddersfield to see some mates, went to the Camel Club, got nearly 800 gamer points in two days on halo and dead rising on their xbox360, ate poorly, came up with some further ideas for my stories. Yesterday I also happened to have another two-hour conversation with my ex-girlfriend, which as always provided lots of new, helpful yet hurtful information and left me feeling rather depressed. Glad she's realising what a tit she was sometimes. Sad she thinks we might still be soulmates. So now! Reading week of FUN FUN FUN READING! More work than regular weeks, this.

Beckett doesn't like essaying his own work, and especially doesn't seem to like telling people when they're right or wrong. There are a lot of parallels drawn between Godot and Dante's Inferno; making the whole waiting game an allegory of the limbo of the.. er.. that place where aborted babies go. PURGATORY! thassit. Yeah. Characters unwilling to make any decisions themselves. But the whole 'nothing happens' thing - I agree mostly! I mean, I don't ever believe that any artist truly invests the whole 'meaning' that is found by critics afterwards, but I do think that they have some sort of idea of what they're doing. Again, I have no clue at all about Godot :P Aaah!

Frankly I'm amazed you're putting so much into this tiny, tiny part of the entire naruto story. I've had a fairly quick, yet I hope in-depth look at the argument, and there are multiple flaws in the claims for Haku to be a female. But my main point is; seriously, what does it matter? Why, or even when is Naruto ever as deep or uncertain as this whole Haku debacle? "In the June 2006 Shonen Jump magazine, Masashi Kishimoto states that Haku is a boy: Haku is a boy. I you think he looks like a girl, you're not alone, because Naruto thought so, too. But he's a boy." And why does it make everyone else complete idiots to think Haku is male? To be be honest I think it's ultimately sad that anyone, including me, would spend and real time at all investing in such a debate as this.

I wonder how many orthodox christians there are on the terraces singing that song... :P God, to me, is not any sort of theological interpretation. The energy of the universe is neither good nor evil, it merely is... and we are a part of that. n'stuff.

Dude if anyone here made a programe that did that, then they should totally post it on here. It's totally better news than hearing about games sale numbers, or delays to rubbish ports. Big Leo was an ace guy. It's at least nice to hear about this. Even if it could be a load of horse-crap, and that you could find music in anything, so what? I'd love to know what a picture of me sounded like. It's COOL.

Mr_Odwin said the same thing earlier in this thread Heyy, I'm studying it too! I wanted to be the first to tell you that it was teh same play but darn, beaten to it. So you studied it before, eh? What angle did you hook it?
