Just finished season 2 of Sons of Anarchy -- and honestly, it's a brilliant show. A motorcycle club, formed with a communal family foundation, has over the years grown to control a small(ish) town called Charming. They have snitches in the police and their fingers in the underground business of smuggling guns from the Real IRA to drug-powered gangs. They have rivalries with the Mayans, as well as ongoing investigations from some FBI-esque group hampering their shit. This season focused on the arrival of a respectable arm of the KKK, and how they try to quash the SAMCRO by playing the gangs against each other. It's very much like Sopranos on bikes, except we don't ever get a grip on the status quo, isntead some upset or unbalance is happening. Infrequent scenes of massive violence that occur without real warning, and the general overtone of "society doesn't have to be like this" combine to make a show that I really like. While it's not Wire, the coincidences in SoA feel a lot less "mmmm... contrived!" and a lot more "wooah... no way!" which always makes for exciting viewing. Enough rambling - go watch. Season 3 starts in september so you have time to catch up.- 3920 replies

So I don't have a paper copy of the xmas tv times - but the online edition looks shiiiit! Am I missing something, or is The Great Escape not on this year? I've never watched it in full and was planning to make this The Year Of Conquest.

I fell off my high horse and rolled into this rut ages ago. Sorry if I groan, sorry if I moan. Sorry if I'm not star-struck and hopeful. Flameboy; I don't mean this to be a competition, nor need you prove yourself. I've had pretty much precisely the same relationship experience as you - knocked flat on my back just as many times. One time I liked this girl for months, and when I finally asked her if she shared my feelings she said "aw, if only you had asked me months ago! I did but now we're hardcore friends, dewd". So I understand the pressure of choosing the right moment to take the step towards the answer, but I'm just saying that from the clues you passed on from her to us it never sounded like it was going anywhere. Dannyboy; I understand what you are saying, and that to some extent having a strong moral compass and a well-founded understanding of human nature can lead to good advice. If my epigram was Word then how would we help rape victims? How could we offer guidance to people dealing with situations utterly unfamiliar? While we offer the best insights that we can, I'm just saying that the advice is better coming from those who know. In between the lines I'm assaulting anyone who isn't me because they're behaving in ways I wouldn't, and I'm guilty of having an ego that needs bruising. But while you attempt to offer a perspective to encourage debate or shed light on new ways of thinking, so do I. My cynical realist approach is just not commonly shared - or much appreciated. But essentially, if and when I seek advice, I want the blunt and the cold just as much as I need the warm and the soft.

Can I say this thread depresses me. Are men really all so desperate? What's the rush? Gizmo; what you say about 'each girl that talks to me..' I certainly used to feel like that. Perhaps I'm just getting old? Flameboy; I don't mean to be harsh but I did say that she sounded like a friend. Best thing for you to do now is effectively pretend you never asked her to marry you and have babies. Don't bring it up, don't whine about it, don't 'discuss' it. Just get back to being friends and you'll find it's way mroe powerful to have female best friends for when it comes to the next girl you like. Also we should have a new rule where you can't start your advice-giving with "even though I've had no experience with this whatsoever, and I'm not the best person to ask..." *looks at dannyboy!* ... Frankly if you have no experience with it then where are you getting your ideas from? CYNICISMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

JUST BOUGHT MY XMAS DINNER!!! Totally got cocktail sausages and bacon, a stuffed turkey joint, stuffing mix, yorkshire puds, red onions, parsnips, CRACKERS (even though I'm dining alone... ahem), a selection tin of biscuits and a bottle of MARTINI! I also have some pork chops and beef rib cutlet things for alternative crazy feast. Tomorrow I gotta get the timing down for everything but it's not looking too tricky as most of it is frozen. One problem is I have no potatoes. I'm sure housemates will have some somewhere (or I can de-branch the couple sitting in my cupboard and risk it...). Stayed up 'til 7am watching Sons of Anarchy via xbocks on a lazyboy chair. Such a mega good show. Then woke at 1am today to take housemate's books back to library for brownie points (he's black, y'see... lol!) andd... yeah. Chips n' dips and St. Helier's cider for the rest of the day. Next two days I'm looking at 9-6.30 working hours so I need to try and maximize enjoyment while minimalising pain of tomorrow. FAT CHANCE! I have a total of four xmas cards this year!

Lawl. Forgot to set tactics and got a lovely victory to get me out of the relegation zone for a bit! Need a few points against noodle and who knows... My proper team also won without set tactics... though that's in the cup and I cba with it. My change report for that team was ridiculously average. They're all STILL playing two bars above their evaluated amount... which means I have the element of surprise in my league at least.

I have £7 in my account, £1 in my pocket. I need to save £2.80 to get to work monday night (maybe £2.20?) which means I have ROUGHLY £5. With this I can buy 12.5g of tobacco and two litres of cider so I can enjoy my day off... But it's all rather risky and I look like a proper hobo - especially as I'll be giving them a handful of change then saying "can I put the rest on my card?" for something that'll be less than a fiver. And I have to make up my mind soon as the place shuts at 4!

You can only thank people a certain amount of times a day (10 now, is it?). And I think anyone who pays for a single is a moron. -
Fairly sure we have a thread (or three) like this in creative/here somewhere. But it's always a fun thing to have a go at!

Any game where you fly around and shoot stuff :P Rogue squadron and the like pulled it off with much better finesse, and with better controls so you aren't spending half your time trying to face the opposite direction but in the same place.

Some kid filled in one of those "How was your shopping experience?" forms at work today, and gave me an awesome rating which means I'll be getting some sort of voucher, or something. Got home at ELEVEN PAST ELEVEN. Fucking hell! Got to be up at 7am. Mate's appendix nearly exploded! Got three xmas cards! Out of news.

Have to say I disagree with both of those choices, neither is stand-alone and incomparable. Both quirky and ace, of course. I wanna say Blast Corps, because I can't really think of a game it is similar to...

Sons of Anarchy s01e08 The Pull Having sex with a dead man in the room? Therapy is your future. Still not entiiirely sure what to think of the show. I suppose it's trying to be Sopranos but with leather-clad hell's angels bikers, bribing cops to look teh other way as they run drugs, smuggle guns and kill people for some sort of reason. The show tries very hard to be cool - and with that thug brother from Green Street (whose swaying chavster walk I always thought was surely fake...) and Ron Perlman as the vice- and president of the club, they kinda pull it off. But it doesn't have that HBO polish to it. The last 15 minutes of this episode could've been thoroughly more severe and emotionally connecting - the sort of scene where all you'd have to say to someone would be "that bit with the ipod" and they'd know exactly what you were on about. Anyway - worthwhile so far. Going to try and cram the majority of the rest of the season in tonight, with a whole other season to catch up on.- 3920 replies

PERSONAL MINISCULE MONIES FOR YOU! There's more than one reason that people dislike the x-factor. Some reasons do not conflict with purchasing the RATM single. Some do. I fall into the latter, because to me what is wrong with this society is about the money. Anything else - the choices available, the alienation of being in the minority - is not just correlated but caused by our society's fixation on biggerbetteretcetc. Einstein once said something about how it takes a genius to think small, to think beyond the necessity for necessities. As a bystander to the whole event, I'd much prefer RATM get to number 1. Thought loses effort here. -
Looong day. Left my house at 12, got home at 11. Got some food about to be burned in the oven, then some Friday Night Lights and Sons of Anarchy (TV shows) to watch with some cider, then bedbedbed. It was a pre-made game that someone found at a car-boot. Had a tape with a recorded intro and outro, and pre-mdae booklets for several characters. You had to stay in character throughout the evening (we had a 3-course meal of niceness), and each 'round' (there were 10) we simply turned a page, and had some more info/questions to share with the group. Most of the fun was had in acting, ideally, with some preparation it could be epic. That's the thing - not had a chance to be mean yet! Just sorta... accepting life.

Confrontations are a big no-no. If you're going to be all melodramatic before you're even going out then she's going to be turned off. When the 'time is right' then go for a kiss. If she goes "ew ew ew ewww!" then you have your answer, and life's long enough to get over it. (I didn't really read all of the posts before this one)

Sheffield had a few snow blitzes - but I was cooped up for each! I got to work for 1, then saw daylight at 4, and missed snow. Then next saw the outside at 7 and had missed another round of snow! Fucking cold though.

haha - yes :P I agree on both parts. Perhaps unrelated - but I tend to find that Big Love frustrates me, that the characters act in ways I wouldn't do, in ways I suppose stem from their beliefs. In BB Walter reacts to a situation fairly humanly, and once he's dug his whole you can understand why he can't just turn around and do the best possible option.
