@Blue Rogue could be a payroll error?
-
Definitely. Once I know those two pieces of the puzzle I can effectively consider my position. I am overthinking a lot - but that's gotten me where I am so far :P Ultimately, the company has rewarded me so far since I've been here, and it's taught me a lot. Whatever happens I'm confident I can keep doing well.

mixed news today for me
-
I like that you vent when you're upset as well, murray.

I did indeed read into something and found a slice of a conundrum that, in actuality, doesn't bother anyone! I am a bit drunk currently. and thus looking for a 'fight', but I will reel it in (for this thread, at least). Sorry, nothing funny here.
-
It comes from drunk jayseven - was not meant to be a direct attack but was definitely a rant. Apologies for being nutty! I'll see myself out.

It looks nothing like you.

What is wrong with citing sources? Is the idea to post something in this thread as if it's your idea? I get that you hadn't taken the picture yourself, and that photographers have to live with the fact that their work goes unthanked... but why link an image and then state a sentence that is entirely ripped from tumblr, facebook, reddit, 9gag.. etc... without saying where you took it from? Do you take a lot of pride in making people LOL even though you know you stole the joke from elsewhere? Elsewise, do you worry that people will LOL less if they know that you took it from elsewhere? Or do you just assume that people will also assume that you are not posting your own opinion but instead something you found on the internet? I get that you may think "lol shup it's the internet" but how hard is it to say where you got the idea from, and how painful would it be to admit it? Or maybe I'm just being backwards! It probably stems from people on facebook expressing their personalities via the medium of Other People's Jokes. I don't want members of this forum to express themselves through the Stolen Words Of Others... because it's not them. But I guess the argument is "lol it's a joke doesn't matter..." but my argument is "if it doesn't matter then don't pretend it's yours". I don't know.

@Serebii - why reference binge eating? Do you associate such disorders with yourself? PM plz.

When I read (some) of Paradise Lost I always felt that the impetus behind the terse verse was to not try to assume what the will and/or word of God was. Figuring the importance of the church, it would be far more detrimental to pretend to ventriloquise (is that a word?) the intentions of a supreme being than to try and humanise a fallen angel. It would be far more offensive for Milton to presume God's actions than it would to assume that Satan would be a narcissistic renegade. The human voice is far more suited to satan than to god in this respect, simply because humans have experience at being devlish but no true understanding of what it would be like to be God. In this respect I play down the stupid theories that Milton considers Satan to be the hero of the story. I think it's very much modern ideas of story applied retroactively to deem Satan 'the man' because he has more lines. I think that I've lost touch with my university teachings so much, and so utterly embraced my life on the fence, that I am unable to objectively provide an opinion on the matter. But I do think that the prevailing ideas (when I studied the text) are more leaning towards the want of modern interpretation to be meaningful rather than the actual meaning to be accurately interpreted. Does that make sense? It doesn't seem to make sense. Summary; Paradise Lost is not about how cool Satan is, but more about how indescribably God is. Heaven Forbid we try and justify what God does! Is what I think. I think. EDIT: Damn I'm definitely drunk. Sorry!

So I've just had a week where my training regime has been enforced, and my plans will continue next week. I've also been green-lighted to lead the next training as well. I've also found out that we're likely to have a third individual too... and I should be tasked with that. But the reason I'm posting in this thread is because I had a chance to talk to the MD at the pub just now, and was able to talk about the CRM changes I've made and compare them to other ideas that the project manager has for the system. The MD started from the bottom and worked his way up, and along the way he redesigned the CRM for another part of the company-- so I think he has some empathy and respect for my current position. He said that he wants to arrange a meeting next week with me to discuss and plan further changes -- basically it's great news and means that I have a chance to establish myself within the company at a level that I previously thought would take a lot longer... If I can get the MD to recognise my abilities then maybe I can aim higher than I've aimed so far. Currently it's a hope and a dream, but if the meeting goes well and I get on-side with teh MD then I can quickly establish myself and become someone he trusts. Essentially, I have an opportunity to present myself as a part-of-the-company individual. This one meeting can be an opportunity to set myself up for the next level of career... I figure by the end of this year I'll have my promotion under my belt (I fucking hope.. if it doesn't happen then I'm gone!) and I'll have my foot in the door for the larger conversations. The meeting I'm having is to discuss project manager direction/decisions... i don't think I'll exactly replace our current PM but I think it's a chance to show I'd be a good candidate for future projects... Which means that basically I have a new 2-year plan. I've overtaken everyone on my team for the next promotion, so I need to then chase up the next step. If I can get to PM then I can realistically transition from company to company really easily... So yeah! Really good week, where once again a lot of hard work has paid off. I am proud of myself and my actions around significant company figures at times when I was pissed and could have easily have just shouted CUNNNT... so glad I did not!

I see that works perfectly fine... are you really trying to redefine bite? Is elbowing an apple more harsh than biting one? I think you would take a long time breaking every bone in a human body if he was just elbowing them. But that's omitting the "intent" that you speak of further down in your post. Of course the comparison is stupid (but you're comparing it to apples). What factors aren't being taken into account? He's bitten someone on the world stage. It's the third time he's bitten someone. If someone was in front of the judge for the third time for the same incident (and the fourth time in all) is that not to be taken into account? Why are we talking about shark bites? Should we be talking about kangaroo boxing as well, or boa constriction? Do we use these as ways to form our perspective on human behaviour? Do you think biting another person has no affect on the other person? I see what you are arguing, which is a timeless thing argued down the line. You are unhappy with the punishment because others have not been punished as well and you think it is unfair. My point is that you need to stop using the fortune of others to downplay Suarez's actions. He DID this. He is at fault. He is to blame for any loss incurred by liverpool. Not the ref, not FIFA, not the player he bit. Your opinion of my examples is that they are 'poor' - and that's fine, because it's your opinion, and you show how you rationalise your opinions - and I think your rationality is poor and doesn't seem to weight the right factors when coming to a decision. As I said in my previous post, you sidestepped each comment I made because you couldn't directly reply to them, as you knew that by agreeing to anything I said would mean you'd have to question your stance.

I've never worked in a place where 100% of employees are shit, but I have worked in places where 100% of management are... :P Employees aren't shit they're just not utilised most effectively! Right?
-
Oh so it's not a bite because it didn't break skiiin! Awesome. So is it a punch to the face if it doesn't break the nose? I've got a needle full of blood - no diseases or anything though. Shouldn't be a problem if I just inject a stranger with it eh? Not like I'm transferring diseases or anything! I mean what would you prefer, being stabbed or shot? Because you totally have to choose. If you get stabbed in the street then you have to let the guy off because he didn't mean to stab you, he was just out running with a knife and had a pre-set route that he loves to run - he always runs it. Never takes a detour. Why should he run slightly to the left just because you're standing there reading facebook on your phone? Not like he actually severed any arteries. besides, you weren't shot and left with non-functioning organs were you? See! What's to complain about. My point? Quit diminishing the nastiness of one thing just because another nasty thing exists. Yes I am venting a little because I missed out on the fun in the other thread. But I expect you'll reply in a weak way that overlooks my points and side-steps the meaning because you want to instead address the offensive tone and take it personally rather than treat it as an objective kind of "why do you think the way you do, and why do you think it's the best way to think?" kind of post. Or you'll ignore it altogether because you don't quite know what to say. But because I've said that, there's no chance you'll say nothing as that would be admiting that you were wrong, but you never do that.

Nothing that interesting :P

I just finished my week in charge and it went much better than expected. Our team produced its highest ever output, nobody gave me shit (and if they did I clearly was too awesome to notice), and I learnt that the IT department put in a good word for me to the MD as well. We've got a new guy starting tuesday and I'm tasked with being responsible for his training. He's got some tough fore-runners to follow but it'll be a chance for me to instil my idea of the Perfect Agent. I've been given a couple of days to come up with a schedule and a delegation plan, and if all goes well I'll be doing the same for the next noob in august. We normally have promotions/pay changes in september, so I figure that should be when I'm promoted. If I'm not, and if it's not a promised date for when I am, then I'll be looking for a new job. And on the side I've instigated a mail-shot for another project wrap-up. Just need the say-go from the MD and I'll have another feather in my cap!

I don't disagree with you charlie, however I may call a chicken-and-the-egg and argue that nobody has read the economist without having read fiction previously. I will preserve my argument for the power of reading from a young age for another thread!
-
I barely read books ever these days, but anyone who says "I don't read books" immediately loses a bit of respect from me :P I totally get it though -- watching tv/movies or playing games (or reading comics) is just a far more visual and immediate form of entertainment that it's easy to look at a book and not think that the time spent on it would be worth it.

@Esequiel - two stokes?

That's fair play, man. I love to shair my successes at work as much as you do, I just felt a tug and figured it was better to say than to not say, regardless of how wrong I may be. You should totally feel pride for the efforts you make at work -- it's a large chunk of your life and you should know that you do a good job. I think you'll be rising in your role as time passes, as you have the attitude that is required. You are escaping a workplace where there are too many individuals scared of your ability and entering one which seems to be focused on growth and skill, and that will reward you. I have nothing but wellwishes for you and I'm sure you're going to continue to kick ass. I'm sorry if my comment was unforthcoming and unnecessary. I'd rather pop an idea and have it flattened than allow my mind to fester on it! Keep on plugging away. This is a great opportunity for you, and nobody can take this away from you -- or the effort you've put in.

http://www.nibusinessinfo.co.uk/content/holiday-pay-termination-employment and also not being funny but when you write about conversations I worry that you're making things up. Not saying that you are making things up, just saying it reads like it sometimes. HITBP! (ninjedit: lol link is for northern ireland... but the message is the same)

I guess I last posted this in the good news thread -- I've basically been told we're expanding and I will be promoted. This will take 2-3 months, but I'll have a but more autonomy, a few housework tasks to add to my duties, but a reduced pressure to meet targets and less need to answer phone calls. This comes from the proactive work I've put in. I can legitimately say I've saved the company thousands of pounds, devised and instigated changes to a lot of processes that ultimately save (conservatively estimating) 25% of time for each member of my team, with more changes to come. I've re-written our T&Cs and am in the process of redesigning our literature, and I've liaised with banks direct to reduce confusion and try to work towards making their jobs and ours better. I've independantly researched a whole bunch of shit... and yeah! Job is going well. This week I'm in charge. Our supervisor/team manager is on holiday and I've been given the big job. It's a clear signal to the others and it'll be interesting to see how things go. I think upper management is doing this to motivate others more -- but I'm terrified. Temporary power is a shitty thing.

I got forbidden island and forbidden desert (as mentioned in previous threads, I'm sure). They're really good as 2-player games, and I was looking for some time-passers for me and my girlfriend. They're not overly complex and don't reek of nerdism. I'm friends with a few guys who spend all their free time at a board games shop, but they're more into tabletop war games and I frankly lose interest in any game after an hour or two. They're also masters of tactics and I always feel an utter noob. The Forbidden games are the kind of easy-going intro games, but Cards Against Humanity! is a crowd pleaser, even with folk who know nothing other than Monopoly, and who think that name-dropping Frustration is a sign that they're clued up with the board game lingo. Cube's list is a pretty comprehensive one of games I've played/heard of. I love pandemic (even though it's fairly roguelike!) and smallworld, but anything over 2-3 hours of gameplay and I just really get bored.

congrats dude - the new work crowd sound far more suited to you, and seem to have that one key seed you need in a job -- recognising your efforts. The pay will not be a noticable difference (but hopefully with the added hours it will do the trick) but so long as you come away from it feeling like you're doing a better job, then you're good to go. I'm not well-versed, but if you've got left-over holiday can't you use it during your notice period? Make sure you check with HR what your rights are with that.
