[SPOILERS!!] The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Fierce_LiNk replied to Dante's topic in Nintendo Gaming
A bit surprised to see quite a few negative reactions about the game. Looked pretty good to me. I like the art style, Wind Waker with Adult link. But, it looks different, too. A different soul. It works for me. The controls issue was probably made out to be worse than it actually was. Whatever the issue was, it'll be fine when we actually come to play it. As if the actual game itself would be unplayable. Whether it's down to interference or the controls simply not working, the game isn't being released tomorrow. It'll be fine. Also, the bow controls seem pretty much like the ones taken from Wii Sports Resort. Is that right? If so, well then those ones work pretty much perfectly. So, not worried in the slightest. There were some nice touches to the game that I absolutely loved. Particularly the way you throw/roll bombs. Very inventive. Really liked that. So, looking forward to it. Not sure about the name. Skyward just doesn't seem to work for me, for some reason. It sounds more like something from a Kid Icarus game than the title of a Zelda. But, not too bothered by that either. We haven't got details on story, setting, characters, etc. Why do we all want that info at once? The biggest mistake with Twilight Princess was the hype. How long was the waiting time between the game being unveiled to the day we actually played it? Too long. Plus, a bit too much information was given out before then. Let's leave it as a mystery, makes it far more exciting. In short: It's Zelda. We'll love it. -
I know all about the rights issue, but it won't be Goldeneye without the original characters. So, wouldn't it have been far easier to make a "true" successor to Goldeneye? This is somewhere between a half-baked remake and a new game, without really being either. Really, people are just seeing the Goldeneye name and going crazy for that. Goldeneye in name doesn't neccessarily mean Goldeneye in soul. I'm being negative about it, and that's really to do with the memory of the original. It's a great game, but part of me feels like the memory of the game is being tarnished. It's a classic, so leave it as one.

Oh, I hate the word Epic, haha. But, it kinda seems like it's taking the piss out of itself. I mean, Kirby is not serious at all. It's a game where you control a pink ball of...pink, and you swallow stuff. I would put it up there with Freshly Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. It's fun without actually believing that it is epic.

That's what I don't feel comfortable with. If they had kept Brosnan in there (is Trevelyan/Sean Bean still there?) then I would be much happier. But, replacing him with Craig is wrong. It would be similar to releasing Star Wars: A New Hope and having Obi Wan's/Alec Guiness's parts replaced by Ewan McGregor. I like the old stuff, the way it was created in the first place. I'm all for a remake, but this is a bit wrong, in my opinion. If they wanted to put Craig in there, then why not just make a new game? Why remake the old game with him?

Shut your face, Mildred. Epic Yarn, haha. Still laughing. Awesome.

That's what I thought. I just love the whole idea behind it though, the erasing nature of the game. Plus, as others have said, the black and white Steamboat Willie section rocked. This disappeared off my radar, but I really want it after that conference. I mentioned this when I was watching the conference, but the Wii is really strong in terms of its platforming games. Today alone we've been given DK and Kirby, and this looks strong, too. Good variation there, too in terms of art styles and gameplay. Good time to be a Wii owner.

The name of this game got a few laughs from me. But, the game itself looks brilliant. Not sure where to begin with it. It looks really fun. My kind of humour, I think.
-
Me, Ine and Vipey were in an MSN conversation about an hour ago, and we decided to watch the conference together. You should have heard/seen us when this got revealed. We squealed like pigs. Looks bluddy incredible. I thought we'd never ever see a proper DK Country game again!

[SPOILERS!!] The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Fierce_LiNk replied to Dante's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The Mansion and the Arbiter's ground were great. I didn't think they were actual dungeons when I went into them. I thought they were just..well, areas to explore. I thought "oh, it's a mansion, not a dungeon." But it was clever how it was designed. Really enjoyed that. Less boundaries, the better. Keeps the game interesting. -

Are any of them particularly great films? I like Silent Hill. A few of those are so bad that they become legendary (Mortal Kombat), but the rest are arse. Still, people will go and see them. It's similar to the Sonic Cycle.

Rafa takes Liverpool from 2nd in the League in the previous season and they finish in 7th the next. Just getting into the Europa League. Rafa enjoys a good run in the Europa League, after his team perform miserably in the group stages of the Champions League. Poor FA Cup form, not a great run in the Carling Cup either. A bare squad still sees Dirk Kuyt being played out wide, with an injured Fernando Torres limping his way to the end of the season. Rafa fails to control his players, including a certain Albert Riera claiming that he wants a move away from the club, stating that Rafa's man management skills are bizarre. His questionable man management skills in the previous season included the fiasco regarding Barry and Alonso, with Alonso then deciding to jump ship and with Villa deciding to sell Barry to Man City. Great play there, Benitez. Steven Gerrard lacks confidence and hits the headlines with assault charges. Rumours surface about further scandals. On the pitch, it is evident that Gerrard is not enjoying his football. He can't have a rest, because there are no replacements. Look at Lucas, week in week out he is the scapegoat, yet Rafa plays him on and on. Years into his Reign, Rafa then realises that the youth policy at his club probably isn't that great. An out of breath Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard agree very willingly. Still, Rafa chooses to play with the same 11 for the majority of the season, with Babel as a second half cameo. Oh, and about Babel, he still isn't given a decent run in the team and his confidence takes one blow after the next. After a nightmare season, Rafa then decides that it's best to leave the club. The fans agree. Rafa leaves with a £6 million severance package. The fans do not agree with that nice and tidy sum. Maybe giving him that 16 million quid or so deal last year wasn't the best idea. Liverpool contemplate looking for a new manager. In the meantime, Inter decide that after their treble winning season, that after their Charismatic Manager Jose Mourinho decides to join Real Madrid, Inter decide that Benitez somehow is the best man for their job. So, after a year of complete and utter failure, Rafa is taking his 6 million quid and is joining the Serie A, The Coppe Italia and Champions League Winners. I'll repeat that one more time. Rafa finished seventh last season, Liverpool will not be in the Champions League next season and they'll struggle the season after, what with City and Spurs closing the game between the outsiders and the top four. Rafa is then rewarded for his failure with his money and with a brand new job in Italy, managing the treble champions. Say what you want about Liverpool fans being glad to see the back of him. They haven't won here. Now they have to find a new manager who will have to cope with the thin squad and poor youth system that he's left. There is only one winner here and it is Rafa. No two ways about it.

Nobody should be shocked. On this same page, we're talking about a Mortal Kombat movie. What have we had so far? Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter, Prince of Persia, DOOM, Hitman, Max Payne, Resident Evil, House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill and Dead or Alive. That's off the top of my head. I'm surprised there hasn't already been a failed Metroid film. It seems to be the thing "to do" these days. A film tie-in with a video game, comic book films, remakes of older films/franchises, ala The A Team or Karate Kid remake.

That's spot on. I saw a post on another site somewhere that read "How do I gain just a little bit of muscle? I don't want to be a muscle man." Haha, you don't "accidentally" become World's Strongest Man overnight. It's encouraged for people to weight train if they want to lose weight/fat. A lot of the stuff I've read into seems to suggest that. Of course you'll have to combine it with cardio, but it's good to incorporate it. As for getting paid to lose weight, it's right up there with getting paid to stop smoking. Why is money being used as the incentive here? Surely the incentive should be that you'll be healthier, possibly more fitter, in better shape, etc. Plus, wouldn't it help your own self esteem and confidence? My confidence has rocketed ever since I gained weight, being the skeletor/underweight minion that I used to be.

I quite liked what I saw of it. It doesn't seem like a bad game. Maybe just a bit ropey in some aspects, but there's time to polish that up? (it's been a while since we've seen any footage, I think) I agree with you where you say that there's no competition for this on the Wii. There needs to be more fighting games. So, you never know, this might do ok. I'm more excited for this than I am/was for The Grinder.

(this'll be my last post for a while, as I don't want to hijack this thread ) I know exactly what you mean about the cheap stuff. My snare drum that I bought with my kit was battered within a few months. Infact, the head of the drum was dented beyond belief (it had this horrible, horrible skin on top) and the snare belt under the drum actually became "unsprung." I had to get a soldering iron to put the snares/metal springy stuff back into place. It was awful. I ended up just going out and buying a new snare drum, for something like £80 i think it was. The difference in sound was astounding. The older one didn't sound like a snare in the end at all. It sounded more like a really deep biscuit tin. A biscuit tin made of plastecine. Dipped in water.

[SPOILERS!!] The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Fierce_LiNk replied to Dante's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I'm going to second that. I've re-read Emashers posts, and I really don't think that he's the condescending one here. He seemed to state his point quite well, I thought. I would feel a little hard done by if I was him. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what Nintendo do with the next Zelda. I think they've earned our trust by now, and it's not something that they'll take lightly. So, it's probably best to keep an open mind in the meantime. -
Haha, you've just reminded me why I haven't upgraded my kit much (at all) since buying it. Drumming is so damn expensive. It looks like a lovely kit. I want to get myself a Pearl Kit one day. That's going to cost a fair bit, I expect. The cymbals are what kill you, though.
-
How much did those cymbals cost you, Rizz? Nice pedals, too. I'm really not happy with my bass pedal, but then the kit I bought wasn't a great model. Trying my friend's kit made me really jealous.
