All sounds great. Weird how they didn't demo the "climb anywhere" aspect in the trailer. In fact they showed the opposite with specific highlighted places to climb! Climbing a high mountain and gliding down to somewhere that looks interesting was one of my fav gameplay loops in BOTW, so it's exciting to see it here.

The closest they ever got was probably the 5 or 6 achievements in each of the NintendoLand mini games, but that whole title was very arcadey and about replaying the same games over and over so probably suited it.

Nintendo Direct | E3 2021 + Treehouse Live (15th June 2021 @ 17:00 BST)
Ronnie replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
What I'm expecting: - Breath of the Wild 2 teaser trailer, with gameplay - DK - 2D Metroid - Metroid Prime 4 tease - Smash character reveal What I'd love to see: - Pilotwings - Mario Odyssey 2 - Brand new 2D Zelda, new world to explore. Fed up with ports and remakes I can't see them going too heavy on Zelda until after Skyward Sword is out though, so maybe a 35th anniversary thing to come in August or something. -

This gen, off the top of my head: Game Builder > Ring Fit > Labo > ARMS > Snipperclips > 1-2 Switch So mostly the weirder, more experimental games -
It's easy to say "don't like trophies? don't go for them" but I'm similar in that I'd find it hard to resist too.
-
Summed up well. As a two sentence summary of my thoughts... I just don't think they like the idea of people mindlessly grinding in their games, like I just did in ME1. They openly ridiculed the idea of grinding in modern games with the prize for getting 900 korok seeds in BOTW.
-
I spent two hours mindlessly grinding squad power attacks in ME1 for trophies the other day. I'm not sure why I did it, apart from the feel good feeling of a Platinum popping up, but that lasted about ten seconds. I'd like an achievement system on Switch but I can 100% see why Nintendo don't want to introduce one. As for the Pro price point, if it's only £50 more then no one would buy the OG Switch and I imagine they'll want to keep the 3 devices around for at least a year. I'll say £350-380 but it's hard to really judge without knowing what the thing actually is!

Really loved Astro's Playroom, so would love to see them working on a full length (non VR) sequel next!

Uh oh. Sounds like another delay incoming. It'd be crazy if Playstation only have Ratchet and Returnal as big first party hitters this whole year.
-
It's crazy how much Playstation have U-turned from their "We believe in generations" statement to releasing all their big exclusives on last gen as well. I was hoping this and Horizon would be built from the ground up for new gen, but I guess not. Hopefully the transition to PS5 only will happen in what, a few years? And re: the delay to 2022, how shocking . Seriously, what was the point of saying 2021? It was obvious to everyone that was never going to happen, so why say it?

I apologise for adding to the conversation. Stupid me. I'll stay well clear.

Mario Kart 8 is still one of the most stunning games Nintendo have ever made. It runs flawlessly so give me that 4K boost just for extra detail!

Nintendo Direct | E3 2021 + Treehouse Live (15th June 2021 @ 17:00 BST)
Ronnie replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I actually think it suggests the opposite. I'm still 50:50 on before/after, but now I'm thinking why the need to manage expectation about an event that's (supposedly) happening after a hardware reveal? The wording makes more sense if the Switch Pro is revealed afterwards, so people don't get annoyed at no Pro reveal during E3. If the Pro is being revealed tomorrow, why the need to manage expectations about a show 2 weeks from now. I think we'll almost certainly see something of BOTW2 but I don't think it'll be a full deep dive on gameplay. They can easily do a dedicated Direct + Treehouse for that at the end of the year or early next year. -

Shame Treehouse is only three hours long, I really miss those three days of livestreams they did in the past, but obviously this is a weird year. Masters of managing expectations! A very good thing given what the gaming community. Next they'll be saying what colour clothes Koizumi and Aonuma will be wearing. -

Super New Nintendo Switch Deluxe XL - Name prediction thread

Nintendo Switch Plus/+ is a good one. I'll go for boring ol' Nintendo Switch Pro -
Yeah I agree with most of that, I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if they waited till after. They'll want to leave as little gap between reveal > release so as not to cannibalise sales and if they reveal it tomorrow and it comes out in September that's 3+ months of potentially lost sales. But we shall see! I hope it's before, but Nintendo is weird and I still don't think a bigger screen, 4K support is anything that would impact trailers. We'll see if games run that much better, I'm still dubious but that could be ignorance talking.
-
It's funny because Nintendo usually wait until after E3 to reveal hardware revisions. The 3DS XL was a couple of weeks later, the New 3DS was a couple months, same with the 2DS, two months later. The Switch Lite was one month after. I know rumours are pointing to pre-E3 but it wouldn't surprise me if we don't hear anything till afterwards. I get that they want to show their games off at their best, but I'm really not expecting a big tech boost, at least the type that would impact their E3 trailers. We'll soon find out I guess!

Oh alright...

Wow ME2 is a step up in pretty much every department isn't it. Almost feels like it released in the gen following ME1. Only shame is the RPG stats elements seem toned down to a crazy amount. Love the Paragon/Renegade interrupts during cutscenes. Also love the open ended structure. Obviously you had that in the previous game but to a much bigger degree here it feels like. Love wandering around the ship, looks great.
-
Looks great! Really impressed with that. It started slow, but the second half was very impressive. Visuals are stunning and the combat looks even more fun than the last game. The hookshot pull-cast and deku leaf, paraglider shield wing should make traversal a lot more fun too. I thought for sure they would introduce a 'climb anything' mechanic, but judging from those glowing ledges, I guess not I'm looking forward to seeing what the openworld gameplay is like. I think Sony's big openworld games are starting to feel really stale at this point, the same core concepts recycled over and over, so hopefully they can bring something new to the table. I never even considered this might be delayed, so to not even have a release window is a little worrying. Surely they won't go this whole year with just Ratchet as a big AAA game!

Speaking of Colour Splash (ok not really...) I was watching the Chase the other day (don't judge me) and one of the questions was "The Origami King was a popular video game in what Nintendo franchise?" Most people would guess Mario, but still, pretty obscure! [/tangent]
