E3 2021: Digital Edition, TGA's 2021 & other 2021 events
Ronnie replied to Julius's topic in General Gaming Discussion
So what's everyone's five favourite games from this year's E3? For me I'll go with: - Starfield - very intriguing, love the look and tone - Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope - looks hugely expanded from an already amazing first entry - Metroid Dread - never been a massive Metroid fan but this looks loads of fun - Death's Door - hadn't spotted this game before, looks like the next big indie gem - Breath of the Wild 2 - obv Honourable mentions to Somerville and Replaced, definitely picking those up. -

Thanks, ordered. Imagine attempting to play Adventure of Link on that thing -

Nintendo Direct | E3 2021 + Treehouse Live (15th June 2021 @ 17:00 BST)

Really enjoyed Treehouse this year, turned out it was closer to four hours instead of three. Metroid Dread segments were the highlight for me, game looks great. It's weird how they didn't just say it was No More Heroes 3! -
Story mode being demoed on Treehouse atm:

100%. It was so long I was almost cringing from the awkwardness It felt like a pretty rushed trailer tbh, but like Mando season 2 they know they don't need to show too much. People are already in for this. I wasn't too impressed with the music at first but maybe I need to listen to it some more. The first thing I thought of was they did the same thing as Skyward Sword and it was a reversed track of a classic Zelda tune. And yeah next year looks amazing if everything hits as it should. Splatoon 3 too, probably not GOTY but it'll still sell 10-15+ million.

Never played a WarioWare game, looks a lot of fun. Is it multiplayer focused or can it be fun in single player?

The graphics look a little rough but the perspective is constantly changing between 2D and 3D and seamless cutscenes etc so I guess it's understandable. I actually thought it was an August release till I remembered Americans do dates wrong. Also: (might be US only)

Nintendo Direct | E3 2021 + Treehouse Live (15th June 2021 @ 17:00 BST)

Good Direct overall, given most of it was about the next 6 months. The rest of the year on Switch is PACKED. I feel like it was missing maybe 1 big announcement (say, EPD Tokyo's next game) for it to be a real winner, but apart from that great stuff. -

They've perfected the Nintendo Direct format in recent years. This had great pacing, separating "headlines" grouped together and bigger more standalone announcements. Going straight into development talk about Metroid Dread (probably the star of the show) was a great idea, and Treehouse is usually a fun time (weirdly stiff opening segment, apart) -
Looks great! Relieved to see a new 'overworld' of sorts. If it's out in 12+ months plenty of time to show more. Personally was only expecting another teaser anyway. They've too much else out in 2021 to put too much focus on it. Feels like the magical arm thing that was sealing Ganon away from the first trailer possesses Link. Maybe the new gimmick for this game? I've not seen the trailer a second time though yet so only guessing

3.5/5 I reckon, couple of new first party games + short BOTW2 trailer -
The maths of £70 PS5 games just doesn't make sense in a world where Game Pass is a thing. Really good article here comparing both ecosystems. I'm finding prices on PS5 aren't dropping quickly at all yet so for the first time ever I'm just selling games I have no plans to go back to. Ends up costing me about 20ish quid per game. I've a box full of PS4 games I played and finished once and have never gone back to, so it seems like the right move for me.

I'm just hoping their Smash reveal won't be another f-ing anime swordsman. Who am I kidding, of course it will be. -
There is zero chance they won't show us something. They didn't show anything last Direct because of the Skyward Sword announcement (it would have gotten buried on news sites if they also showed BOTW info). Now it's time. They've had potentially 5 years, putting in another 120 would be expected I think. If shrines are back (and I hope they are), i'd like to see a different visual style to them this time around. Have them themed around locations. You kind of had that in BOTW with shrines by the sea involving water puzzles or ones on Death Mountain using lava in some way, but the shrines themselves all looked identical.

Some really nice stuff here, sounds like there's going to be consistent updates over time. EDIT: Oops never mind I'm a bit late to the party! Poster is gorgeous, in fact the whole creative vision looks fantastic so far.

The Horizon Forbidden West team will be hoping for a release date, so they know when not to release their game I think we'll get a teaser trailer with gameplay, nothing in Treehouse. They'll do a proper deep dive in September or January before a March 2022 release.

Thanks I never knew that!

I have you on ignore as well, I saw your post referenced by another poster. The sidebar is also annoying for that sort of thing too. Hopefully a future forum update will fix it.

"It is a first person and third person game, like our other ones. We like that style of gameplay. First person for us is still our prime way of playing" So it will give you the option to play both? I always thought all Bethesda Softworks games were first person. Rest sounds good though, hopefully they'll have learned lessons from Cyberpunk.

It's funny to have nostalgia for something that happened 4 years ago but the 2017 (Switch's first year) was just an amazing time that I look back at really fondly and Golf Story played a big part in that. Let them take all the time they need for the sequel!
