I've simplified my point to simply 'openworld games', hope that's now ok.

Visually it's certainly not up to much, but Nintendo have always put gameplay first. They provide some much needed variety in an industry that's currently obsessed with openworld games and "cinematic" action. An arcadey space adventure, it's a breath of fresh air IMO

The red coins are a really great idea and will open up a huge number of possibilities. Just a shame they couldn't somehow fit in the Super Mario World keyhole animation/sound effect in.

What are you trying to convey? You think Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad, Splatoon, Yoshi's Woolly World, Kirby, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade X and Twilight Princess and Star Fox around the corner is dreadful. You're right, what a terrible bunch of games in the space of two years. If you want third party games, try PS4, they have nothing but third party titles over there.

Does the mod work ok for all three games? With EA saying they're not going to release a remaster I'm tempted to give up waiting and just play the trilogy on PC. Would hate to use mouse and keyboard though.

This is looking much, much better. Ok the visual style is just as basic, but the worlds feels a lot more alive and fleshed out now at least. Also they at least seem to have a new storyline here rather than just a Lylat Wars rehash. Also 3 minutes of SNES Arwing footage. What a great idea... If you think it looks dull have a look at the new trailer, I think it looks much better

Nintendo wins just for that retro Arwing and SNES Corneria music playing. Amazing. Good Direct overall. Paper Mario looks fantastic, and I'll gladly take another Kirby game on 3DS, loved Triple Deluxe. Some nice additions to Mario Maker and Star Fox looks a little more interesting too. + 1 Given 3DS has been out five years and Nintendo have a new console to unveil in the next few months I'm not sure what some people expect. Totally agree, and even more backwards compared to Wind Waker's lovely animation. That's what has me most worried about Zelda U, it looked to be using the same engine as TP/SS.

Whenever I think the price of games has stayed the same since the SNES days and really needs to go up for the health of the industry, limited edition collector's editions, day 1 DLC and season passes remind me that they basically have already.

That first dungeon was very clever. I'd definitely agree with the general view that the game has the best dungeons in the series

And maybe a Mario Maker port if the gamepad stays compatible. Zelda and a 3D Mario would make for an incredible line-up just on their own! Not quite Knack levels of awesomeness, but brilliant nonetheless. Mario 3D World went from reveal > release in like 5 months, no reason to believe the same thing couldn't happen.

"NX" must surely be the most talked-about codename there's ever been. Nintendo would be smart to just keep it as the final name for the console.

Fair enough. I don't think the delay is a surprise to anyone, as you say we've not really seen anything apart from a CG trailer. Let them take all the time they need... I still need to play 1 and 2 !

Unsurprisingly, been delayed until Q1 2017. Delayed, like every other big game these days it seems.

There can definitely be megatons in Directs, but a few months before a new console isn't really the time. I don't see why they would need to cover TP:HD, they've done a fair bit of publicity for it the last few weeks, and it's a remake at the end of the day.

They're revealing a new console and a brand new bunch of big games within three months, were you really expecting megatons and huge announcements tomorrow?

That sounds better to me than a pre-recorded half-reveal to me. And you never know they still have 3 months to do a dedicated event for it.
