It's shaping up to be something special
-
A favourite memory... way too many to choose from, I might cheat and go for two... That the first six months or so were simply magical. Being in amongst it as the world fell in love with the Switch was great after the lean years of the Wii U. We're used to a lot of other consoles not really getting going software wise until the second or third year but Nintendo had an incredible start to the Switch and while the last couple opening halves of the year haven't been as plentiful first party wise as I'd have liked, there's been no shortage of stuff to play on this thing. Nintendo are talented enough to have given the industry some real key milestones in gaming, those Super Mario Bros, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time etc type moments. I figured we wouldn't see another one so groundbreaking again, from any developer. Breath of the Wild was that game though. I'll never forget what an incredible ride that was, it made me feel like a kid again and I'll never forget how I felt playing that game. (PS: Tetris 99 being a thing, a free game for online members. It's probably in my top 5 most played games, and it was free. ) (PPS: Oh and Mario + Rabbids being a thing. From that first Ubisoft reveal with Yves Guillemot to Davide (Don't cry Ubisoft man) Soliani to the incredibly charming and fun game itself.) (PPPS: Reading, pointing and laughing at ResetEra tearing themselves to pieces waiting for a Direct announcement, never fails to amuse)

What a great advert

Xbox have been on fire lately! Some incredible moves and such a contrast to Sony sitting back, not saying much and just releasing their big games. If you can mix PS4’s first party output and Xbox’s... everything else, for next gen that’d be the perfect “hardcore” platform.

It's interesting how cinema is so obsessed with remakes/reboots/films based on an existing property, games has followed suit this past gen, and now the popular videos about Dreams are ones of "check out this old game remade in Dreams".

Tempted to look for a Rosie one myself now

I bought a Henry amiibo card off eBay just to make sure I get that guy in my town. Oh and I'm a 35 year old grown man. Amazingly those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

I liked being able to mark out where other villagers can move in to.

This game looks GLORIOUS. I mean, visually it's absolutely stunning, and dripping with that Nintendo polish, but all the new features and tons of QOL improvements are great too. The terrain customisation was the biggest surprise, definitely wasn't expecting that and it opens up lots of possibilities. Free updates + amiibo support sounds good too. Given Nintendo have been putting out content updates in the last few years to extend a game's life, we could see more of those "new" gameplay experiences people are after come later? Can't wait!

Yeah it's brilliant that those two games in particular are coming out on the same day. Loving the chat from the DOOM account, and some fan replies are great too

The weirdos on ResetEra had a total meltdown earlier at 2pm when nothing was announced, it was brilliant to watch. Same here, I don't really need to see anything as I know I'm getting it. Might just keep one eye on it in the corner of my screen. Others are more keen to watch though:

The finish line (for lack of a better non spoilery term) at the end of the Darker Side is fantastic. I've been so tempted to go back and play through it again, what a joy from start to finish.

From their quote I think it gives the impression they're still working on it? I'm not too clued up on how people can use cloud saves to gain an advantage in Pokemon or Splatoon and it sounds far fetched but maybe there's a similar thing to do with Animal Crossing. Hopefully it'll be more transparent if/when a Direct happens.

That's rich coming from you. Not to mention as condescending as ever. I can genuinely say that I absolutely didn't mean that. I was simply saying what that I didn't understand, but then finished the sentence with fair enough, to each their own, and that I was sad he wasn't going to pick the game up. I guess I just don't understand how Nintendo telling people they'll be able to back up their save is a dodgy at best business practise, and in any way comparable to Battlefront II's legitimately shameful practises (now thankfully turned around). I agree with the rest of your post though, and completely respect and understand the points you're trying to make. Points taken. Let's move on now please. It's sad how this has been started up again by Sheikah. It's a bit annoying that no one seems to pick up on his attitude and posting style.

Say whatever you want. Just don't complain about toxicity and then in the same breath add to it yourself, by sh*t-stirring old arguments long after the conversation has past.
-
It's somebody else's point of view. He's not questioning why you will buy it so why badger him for boycotting based on some reasons? You can really make topics toxic - much easier to let people do what they want than try to defend Nintendo all the time. Your constant sh*t-stirring makes topics equally toxic. In this case LONG after the conversation has moved on. I literally said to each their own, and sorry to hear he wasn’t getting the game. Now I think it’s time to move on, again.
-
I feel like under the old Club Nintendo you’d need to buy about 50 games to get a cushion for free. Much prefer their new way doing things.
-
The creation tools are certainly looking fantastic but it's a little disappointing to hear that the campaign is only 2-3 hours long, for a game that took seven years to make. Edit: Wow, it's only £17 on Amazon, fair enough then!
-
It doesn't bother me because they've made a statement saying we'll be able to back-up our save file.
-
I'll wait and see what their save backup solution is, they've said we'll be able to so I don't see them as "getting away with" anything. We'll see I guess. There's far more egregious stuff out there in the industry.
-
I genuinely don't understand how two great trailers, a gorgeous looking game with tons of new additions and (presumably) a Direct still to come hasn't got you excited... all because backing up your saves is more complicated than hitting the cloud save button and there's a bit of confusion whether there'll be DLC/in app purchases or not. But to each their own. Sad to hear you won't be getting it. Personally I'm really excited and am happy to wait for more info before making a judgement call. I'm sure it'll be an 8/10+ game anyway, so I'm not too concerned.
-
Totally agree. Don't think it applies to AC: New Horizons though. Oh please. Get away with what exactly? Providing a backup solution for people? There's nothing to "get away with", why make a mountain out of a molehill.
-
No I just like to call out hyperbole like that and calling this save backup thing a "disaster".
-
"Yeah, no." ? Sorry I didn't realise a third off a game isn't a big discount. Spyro is 50% off, Rayman is 75% off, CTR is 50% off. Yooka-Laylee 66% off. South Park is 63% off. A far cry from his suggestion that Nintendo never ran any sales on their eShop. It feels like there's one every month.
