IT'S FRICKIN' ON! I just view 50cc and 100cc as a chance to learn the tracks before you get into the serious stuff of 150cc.

The "loan" payments are a way to avoid tax, plus securing their monies against other creditors in the event of a financial disaster. Abramovich recently turned a chunk of his loans into assets/shares thus making Chelsea turn a small profit for that season.

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Clownferret replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I don't have a clue, I wouldn't have asked the question if I did. I know you said previously that they are all buying it to play games in a year, but I just can't get my head round that at all. -
Oooohhhh that's cheap. Is that £100 less than a PS4? and bundled with one of the biggest selling games of the last gen. If that does not shift hardware then nothing will. I really wish they would allow you to use two gamepads on one Wii U. I know this was discussed as an option in the pre launch days, but heard zip since. I want to buy a second (white) Wii U for upstairs (as the gamepad won't work up there, (nice one Nintendo, make a wireless controller that pretty much needs to be tethered to the console) and would love to have some dual gamepad multiplayer.

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

Why aren't the Japanese buying PS4 games? The console is selling well but only 1 game in the charts. This trend has been apparent for some time now, they can't all be buying a PS4 to play some online update, there has to be more to it than that. -
this game wasn't really on my radar, but having watched the video, I think I'll get it.

The Man City draw has really made the Liverpool vs Chelsea match a winner takes all scenario, although I still have a sneaky feeling there are more points to be dropped by the top 3 before the end of the season. Curse the FA. Atletico Madrid have their league game postponed this weekend whilst Chelsea just get it moved back to Saturday evening. I can't believe that considering the Champions League is a UEFA competition that there is not a standard set of rules for all European Leagues relating to fixtures before and after Champions/Europa League matches.

There absolutely has to be a salary cap for football to be pulled back from the financial abyss. The Bosman ruling was the cause of the inital salary boom. Clubs started to offer Bosman players huge salaries because they didn't have to pay a transfer fee, so rolled the perceived purchase cost into the salary. These players were joining clubs and earning twice as much as all their new team mates. But then your best player complains because he want's the same money and then it spirals out of control. In the space of a few years we went from the very top players earning £40k per week, to squad players earning £90k per week. Now Rooney is supposedly on £300k per week. Now every time Man Utd try to sign a world class player he will be demanding a similar package. The other poison is agents, but that's another argument for another day The Bosman ruling in principle is sound. The agents and clubs were the problem. Agents chanced their arm and argued for the huge salaries because there was no transfer fee and the clubs stupidly agreed. However, this is where the Bosman ruling is flawed, because now the "selling" club get no money and the players get it all. Jump forward 10 years and you have a giant like Man Utd in massive debt and all the players are multi millionaires before they finish puberty.(before I get corrected, I know the Man Utd debt was part of the buyout and not down to players costs, but I was using this as an example of the state of football finances)

Ah OK, so are you saying it's your opinion that the billionaire investors are to blame for rising costs?
-
This is the "Wii U General Discussion" thread. I really think a simple way to prevent ongoing arguments would be to ban discussing PS4 and XB1 in here. There are threads for those consoles elsewhere. Most arguments in here start with a comparison between Wii U and another console.
-
I didn't say the Billionaires were to blame for rising costs. That's twice in a row you have completely misquoted me. I'm not sure why or how Arsenal are a target. Man Utd are hundreds of millions in debt and German football operates completely different to the Premier League. On the flip side of that coin look at all the clubs who have gone into administration over the last few years. Without exception these clubs get into debt because of player salaries which are getting to the point where they are approaching 100% of the clubs income.
-
it won't even out, clubs will go bust. Player salaries are no longer sustainable. Spurs may have got the same amount of players for half the money but their salaries will still be the same. Player salaries has nothing to do with rich owners, the wages started to spiral because of the Bosman ruling. The Sky money and rich investors have just enabled it to continue.
-
The problem with all these arguments is that they are all based on sales figures. " the Wii U has no games" "it's too expensive" "the gamepad was a mistake" etc. The justification is always the same "well it must be right because the system is not selling" The gamepad not being able to play further away is a genuine flaw that Nintendo really dropped a clanger with. All the other crap I read just makes my blood boil sometimes. Take away the sale figures and the graphical power and all the other arguments in favour of PS4 and XB1 are just flawed, biased and in many cases just completely untrue. There has been so much utter nonsense in the last few pages that I could not even begin to correct it all. There are far too many hindsight geniuses on here.
-
I wasn't insinuating that at all. My point was simply that in an era where players salaries are crippling the entire financial sustainability of the sport, to refuse these billionaires pumping hundreds of millions into football will be catastrophic in the long run. The Bosman rule has ruined football financially and like it or not Sky and Billionaire owners are no longer a luxury but a necessity. Arsenal are run within their means, which is honorable, but at what cost? Sacrificing winning trophies over Champions League qualification every year.

yeah i got that saying from my Mum. Must be a generation thing. Lord knows where the saying comes from.

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Clownferret replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
The most powerfull console has literally never sold the most units in any generation and now you are writing off 30 years of hard data as an "absurd argument" -
fuck a duck! do you expect Shiggsy to come round and install for that price? I appreciate that £250 may be out of some people's budget, but it's not expensive. I think the N64 was £250 launch.
-
I believe your majority shareholder is a billionaire many times over, but what's your point?
-
As opposed to what? Selling at a lower price and making an even bigger loss?
-
They should at least throw in the Wii Wheel and a t-shirt or a copy of NintendoLand. They must have a warehouse full of that game based on their original sales targets. Having said that you are getting the console for £210 which how anybody can say is expensive is beyond me. You can pick up Wii U games for pennies with a small amount of effort.
-
Not at all. Two different rules. 1:Clubs should not be allowed to run up debts. Sensible. 2:The rule preventing rich owners pouring their money into clubs is stupid. The long term result of preventing billionaires investing in clubs is that they won't do it anymore and that will result in more clubs going into administration or worse insolvency. The only purpose of this rule is to stop the big/rich clubs getting all the best players. But this has always happened and will always happen. It's not even about money. Take Gareth Bale as an example. A world class player at a club not in the Champions league. He is always going to leave and go to a club that enables him to play with the best players in the best competitions. But at least Spurs can sell him for vast sums of money and buy replacements. Under the new rules clubs will only be able to spend a fraction of the cost to show a breakeven spreadsheet. End result is Bale still leaves, but Spurs get half the money. There are no winners in that scenario. Does anybody really think that if all clubs are even financially that Bale would have left and gone to play for Norwich? Of course not, the best players will always want to go to the best clubs.

what a crap item, there are coins on the track for that. I'll be pretty fucked off leading going into the last couple of bends, being chased down with shells and picking up a coin item.
-
certainly banning City and PSG would lay down a marker without damaging the reputation of the Champions League too much. But personally I think the financial fair play rule is ridiculous and in the long run will only do harm to the smaller clubs who rely on selling a top player every year to balance the books. Sure clubs should not be allowed to get in huge debt, but why would we want to stop all these billionaires pouring money into the game we love. I am in the process of writing what started out as a booklet but is quickly turning into a book called "Football is Broken" It's about how the game has changed over the last few years and the money is a big part of it. I would love to hear any comments from you guys about anything in the game that you think is wrong and how it could be fixed, just in case I've missed anything. My objective is to publish and send a copies to FIFA, UEFA and the FA to highlight the flaws in the game with the hope that a lot of the easy fixes are at the very least reviewed.

with regard to the items, what does the coin do? I wished they still had the fake item box, I used to love dropping one right where a real box would be.
