Ten Years Later: DKC III Anniversary
darksnowman replied to darksnowman's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Yeah you should go for it! I think Ill put off my Cubing (which would have included Kirby's Airride) for a while and get underway with my annual play through of this klassic. See who can complete it in the best time with everything, use the MERRY cheat and the experience will be so Christmassy it'll almost kill you. Ready... GOOOO! -

For total and ultimate completion you have to enter a cheat, TUFST, I think it was, that removed all the DK barrels from the game. Now go do it all over again, and in record time... then and only then will you be at the top of the charts, beating Cranky to the number one spot. A difficult task, when you take into account Swoopy Salvo. -
I thought they adapted the name of Facility in order to get around some copyrights or something. Hadnt Rare and Nintendo lost the James Bond license to Activision by the time Perfect Dark was being released? Now heres the make or break question: would we all have preferred it if Rare had made follow up 007 games to GoldenEye, or are we happy they were able to go down the route of making an orginal follow up?

Yes! Thanks for reminding me, Complex was one of my favourites, its a tie between it and Bunker. Facilty was only for my friends benefit as Complex was too... complex for them. Due to this, Felicity was the main level of choice in Perfect Dark. I loved all those wee hidey holes in the Complex, you could hide in them if you were being chased and then jump out for the kill... them were the days, lol. Duke Nukem 64 had an incredible Dukematch mode, in many ways I preferred it to GoldenEye.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
darksnowman replied to ndreamer's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Just checked out the video, looks fantastic... and thats an understatement it looks like its time for me to get my first Dragon Quest game, and doesnt it look like its gonna be a corker! -
Bunker is my number one choice with facilty next. I never really got into the Library ones, what else was there to pick from? My memories a little hazy this morning as far as GoldenEye's concerned.

Ten Years Later: DKC III Anniversary
darksnowman replied to darksnowman's topic in General Gaming Discussion
All 101%? Nice one! My SNES DKC stands at 100% to this day. Ive got 102% in DKC 2 and 105% in DKC 3 so that kinda saves my reputation - a bit! Ive DKC 3 for the GBA, havent completed it fully yet cos the Funky mini games are rather difficult to fluke success in to get the last DK koin or two. -

Edgar Allan Poe quote from Eternal Darkness. Nice one. -
Jeekers, ok so it may look wick nowadays but at the time there was nothing on apart from GamesMaster that I can remember that covered games. Are there any really great computer game programs on these days? Not really. GamesMaster was a cheesefest and so was Bad Influence, but it had some cool features and stuff and was a cool thing to watch. As for that info blast at the end, I never taped it but I wanted to. My mate did one time and the stuff in it wasnt that great like - nothing NMS wouldnt tell you. It was still a hip way to finish each show with though.

los geht's I got it right!

So here we are, its Christmas 2006. But come on, stretch your mind back ten years. The N64 wasnt out in Europe yet and the SNES was on its last legs. Yoshi's Island would have been a big enough AAA game to have in the Super Nintendo's last year of supremecy, but the boys at Twycross went and out did themselves. For Christmas '96 was when the third of the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy was unleashed upon us, Dixie Kongs Double Trouble is the subtitle of this classic. In this installment we controlled Dixie and Kiddie Kong, her cousin, through the Northern Kremisphere in a quest to rescue the captive Donkey and Diddy. The game featured a great selection of Worlds and Levels, from the opening level of Lake Side Limbo right up to Rocket Barrel Rush (I trust thats the name of it, though it could be Rocket Barrel Drop?) The game even incorporated an RPG-esque trading quest that helped freshen the formula from the previous two forays with the family Kong, we were encouraged to visit the Brothers Bear to help them so they would help us, sometimes they would give us more items to continue the trading sequence and others they would give us access to a Banana Bird cave or get the chair lifts going up at Razor Ridge. Bonus games include a 3D type ball throwing contest in Swanky's Tent. You go up against Cranky Kong and you win items from banana's up to lives. I read way back then that you could apparently play this against another human player, though to this day Ive not discovered how to. Anyone know what to do?? Musically, the game is a hit. DKC and DKC II provided us with some of the most toe-tapping stuff around and DKC III followed this trend. A great Easter Egg in the game is to put in the MERRY "cheat," which has a great effect on bonus stages. Instead of the classic theme of getting stars and the typical music thats played, you get treated to collecting presents or baubles all while listening to a great jingly Christmas tune. If you havent tried this, then you havent experienced the game at its finest. So here we are, Christmas 2006 and Retro gaming is becoming all the rage with this Virtual Console caper. If you have a SNES tucked away in the attic then I implore you to get it out, dust it off and hook it up for some Christmas magic in the style that Rare and Donkey Kong perfected. Have a run about K3, head over to see the Baron and kick his meddling behind then let the Queen Banana Bird sort him out. You won't regret it

What sorta collectors cards?!

Just watched it. Looks super, though I think they drew that battle out for seven minutes for the camera, I coulda had that won or lost in half the time lol. I cant believe this is out so soon after the Wii in Japan. I see on that cubed3 site that it says this is a 2player game - surely its up to four?
-
Ooh, controversy from the new guy! I still stand by my view that it was a good old show and atleast Hero-o'-Times with me on that. You should really check out the website. I always thought that instead of "a partridge in a pear tree" they sang "and a cartridge in a SNES." Turns out its "a cartridge in a teeveeee," jeepers.

Are all these "Best of 2006" type threads getting on your wick? I mean, the years just happened, lets wait ten years before we reminisce on it. If anyone doesnt know, the title of this speaks of an old program on CITV in the nineties. It starred Andy Crane (or Crayon as I prefer) and Violet Berlin. It was about computer games and spanned four series, up until the N64 (Ultra 64!) launch/ just before it. I probably wouldnt make this thread if that little blurb was all I had to tell you, but heres the clincher: last night I actually googled Bad Influence after all this time, I mean why didnt I do that sooner?? Well I found a great site about it that you should all check out - they have even some episodes uploaded there. Really informative stuff. Google for it incase me putting a link is advertising. When you get there, what you want to check out is series three, I think, they did a 12 Days o' Christmas themed computer game song. It was sooo good and watching it again is well worth it if anyone remembers it! So then, does anyone know this show? In my opinion its the best computer games program theres been, yes even eclipsing GamesMaster. Who agrees?

Animal Olypmics on the Commodore 64 - provided thats what the games called. Ghostbusters and Total Recall also and both on the Commodore. Non console wise, some Game and Watch as well as a Snoopy game that was like a rip-off Game and Watch.
-
1: Animal Crossing: Wild World 2: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance 3: Mario Kart DS (I know numbers 2 and 3 were out last year, but getting them last Christmas meant that Ive been playing them mostly this year, understand?)
-
Not out this year but I just watched it last week - The Life Aquatic. A jolly good film with a star studded cast Cinema-wise what about Mission Impossible 3? X-Men 3 and Superman Returns? Very decent efforts. Ice Age was good, but maybe not great. Bond would not get my vote : peace:

Did-a-chick? Dod-a-chock? Dum-a-chum? -
I agree with you Zech. That first level was a corker and really set the game off on the right foot, though its sad that the whole thing goes downhill from there. I got this when it came out (or maybe the weekend after) but Ive not completed it, Im at the last level. Its one of them games that as a fan, I was wanting it to pick back up to the quality of the first level, but in reality it never managed to

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
darksnowman replied to Sarka's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Looking good! Definitely still keepin an eye on it. DQ interest is only heightening today. What about the photo of Iwata and the S-E manno shaking hands? That can only be a good sign... -
Yeah I'd say Pikmins well into development. The Wii suits the game to a T. What would we look for in a Wii version though? More of the same except with the obvious Wii-mote enhancement? Or do we want the series furthered more in other departments like, for example, more types o' Pikmin? Id hazard a guess that theres a DS one in the works aswell, and wouldnt be suprised if theres some link up in the pipeline, too.

It would be class to play as your already personalised Mii, however due to the simplicity of the Mii's I think it would be alot wiser to just make your Animal Crossing in the style of the game. Perhaps there could be more variation between characters though? I mean, they're all pretty much the same except for being male or female. Maybe you could change their build this time aswell? Ooh, and what about having trousers and shoes for them? If theres any truth in the report up there, then I hope that its that you can dress your Mii with the items you collect in the game. That would be cool and would make for a whole new range of diverse looking Mii

Yeah, watch out for them - ruthless on Metroid I tell ye. Ruthless. Welcome anyhoo, have a nice stay here but try to get away from time to time. Have a holiday and see the bigger picture. I hope you've plenty to offer, though you can get by just fine without posting too much. The odd meaningless post here and there is what most do, and they survive If you want recognised then post (/spam) like theres no tomorrow, most threads will do, but steer clear of the Animal Crossing Threads (Handheld and Online) cos no one cares about that game anymore and wont see nor respond to you in them Didnt I say that theyre ruthless and cold hearted here? EDIT: The quotes from *****, Im unsure why its not showing his name. EDIT 2: Urgh, whys it in stars?? Press the blue button and itll take you to the orginal post and you'll see who made it. Exciting!
