No, didn't appeal to me in the slightest after I checked it out seeing how many of you guys were posting about it.

I keep forgetting about these free games, haha.

This is, and has been, without doubt my most anticipated game this year!

I think Thursday shouldn't be a problem but I'll let you know as we get closer to the day. So Squad Battle is as follows... Does that mean you can't create a Squad and play Turf Wars then? Looks it... Nintendo just can't seem to get it right can they?!

I feel the 3DS has more to give than the WiiU does. I think mainly because it's competition isn't really doing anything and it's still selling ok. As a handheld experience, the 3DS is best effectively, it's getting good games and good support, whereas the WiiU is anything but the best experience for a home console.

I've been using the motion controls today and still cannot fathom why you can't use them along with full analogue control... it'd make it so much better! It just bemuses me how Nintendo have missed out on making this game brilliant.

I like that there's a screenshot album, I've saved screens of a few emblems I made on CoD:BO2 it's good for things like that which you might want to keep on show.

It depends what the gameplay brings and what the story brings. I can see @Daft's point about Far Cry 4, but on the same hand Super Mario Galaxy may as well have had a non-existent story but it's still one of the most joyous experiences I've had gaming thank to the gameplay. Swings and roundabouts really I guess. I just prefer gameplay... but I would like more narrative in some Nintendo games.
-
Absolutely this. Also, I think sales on the WiiU would be reasonable for the given franchises. If Nintendi were to develop these games and give them a push like they did with Splatoon, it'd put them to the forefront if WiiU owners minds... and seeing how there are a great number of WiiU owners who feel there aren't enough games (this must be true given how Nintendo themselves have addressed this), more people would pick them up... the consoles diminutive library would be a boon for sales of these games.
-
You've got the wrong impression then Ronnie. Just go to the Other Consoles forum, that first page alone has a plethora of diversity! Look at a couple pages and it's a wider range than the WiiU library by far! Even ignoring indie games.
-
In creating Splatoon and Cpt Toad they are definitely giving some diversity... but I'd not say admirable, only because they could offer up even more diversity from within their own catalogue of IP (the numerate games I'd listed earlier). As opposed to releasing so many platformers and party games they could have released a couple off that list. That's my gripe. Also, the fact they messed up and lost 3rd Party support is Nintendo's own fault, so they have to accept any complaints regarding the console as a whole not having enough diversity. I agree with this point. Gameplay should come first and foremost (some may be shocked at me saying this given my stance on online features, I can elaborate via PM if you wish to ask me about this). That was why I didn't rate The Last of Us that highly... although that discussion is in The Last of Us thread.

People on the street will not recognise Link... most people on the street think he's Zelda!

I've just had an email saying there's no plans for a retail release, still digital only.

Battalion Wars, 1080 and Earthbound would still offer something to the console's library though, more diversity. You can't argue that. Also, you're talking about characters there, not franchises. Yoshi may be loved, as is Kirby, but their games will not sell more than the Halo, Gears, God of War, Uncharted etc. franchises. The franchises of the competition are more loved by the majority of gamers today, that's the truth. I'm not saying I love them more but the majority of gamers do. Sales prove it.
-
But they're not really using them! Where's the new F-Zero, Waverace, 1080, Excite series, Metroid, Earthbound, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars? There are plenty of franchises that would add so much to the console that they're just sitting on. Also, what on earth makes you think the competitors don't have franchises that are world renowned and loved?! Of course they do! All you need do is look at games sales for franchises to see they're more loved than Nintendo's these days. You'd only argue out of blind love for defending them though. I could argue terrorism is good... but I'd be wrong. I'm only joking Serebii... partly, haha. I agree that they given diversity themselves with Splatoon and Cpt Toad.
-
That's fair enough then, we're making slightly different points... but yours goes to prove my second point which is diversity amongst Nintendo's, and the console as a whole, output. Their lack of diversity in games they're releasing may be the reason why they're losing more and more of their core fanbase with each passing generation. Also, of the games I listed, they were all released within the first 2.5 years of the Gamecube's lifespan. Killer 7 and Resident Evil 4 being the exceptions, although REmake was released within that timeframe. So halving the GC's list wouldn't make a difference.

If this happened, what I think Nintendo should do is make it so that the online could be cross platform. So those playing the WiiU versions online could race/fight against those playing the NX versions.

Oh my word, the final few pages of this week's One Piece chapter! -
The Gamecube had shooters, so you could say Timesplitters 2, for example, was it's Splatoon equivalent (this is the hardest given Splatoon's unique nature, it's arguable there is no equivalent). It had platformers, so DKC, Yoshi and Mario are covered. For Hyrule Warriors, it had Mystic Heroes which was the same type of game. So basically it had equivalents on them. The WiiU doesn't have a broad enough spectrum of games really. On the list you posted, of 26 games, 7 are platformers and 5 are party-style minigame compilations. Almost half of the list belong to just 2 genres. That was my point.
-
@Eddage, I don't necessarily think your taste has changed since the Gamecube days. Think of the list of games for the WiiU there... where are the equivalents to the Metroid Primes, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evils, Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, F-Zero GX, Wave Race, 1080 Avalanche... you know what? This list could go on for an age!!!

Nintendo X-Rated..? It's going to be a sex-machine that harkens back to their days of having Sex Hotels? It might sell a little better than the WiiU but I don't think I'd buy one. ...who am I kidding, of course I would! Haha

I've found the WiiU a mixed bag. At first it was happy with it, games were being released and they were fun, but as the WiiU's life continued droughts came about, 3rd Party released stopped, Nintendo made mis-steps with their multiplayer games and didn't relase enough of their catalogue to give the console diversity. Nobody here is to blame for complaining. It's nobody's fault but Nintendo's that the console has gone the way it has. Still, when it first released I loved the console and was looking forward to games which unfortunately simply didn't live up to their potential for me. Anyhoo, 10 million is a milestone for them, it's important it made it out of single million figures, but it goes to show that Nintendo's core fanbase is shrinking. They need to cater better to them to keep them onboard.

This is different to what I recall. Cube-Europe was a great place to discuss the console, the GC was loved here! I don't recall bad vibes at all!

It has some gems on it, there's definitely fun to be had with the console. Unfortunately for me Nintendo haven't provided me with as much fun as their other consoles. It would've been great if they'd drawn from their rich catalogue of games to give us a little more diversity on the console though... namely Metroid and Waverace for me, I love them... but there are plenty more too of course. I think what makes me feel so down about the WiiU is that I still feel the Wii was a lot better. It had better games, a bigger diversity in software, a bigger and better online community and better online features in Nintendo's own games and a bigger number of games from Nintendo's library. There were many more magic moments with the Wii than there have been with the WiiU! In some ways I still feel I'm waiting for the successor to the Wii, the WiiU doesn't feel to be that and so I feel let down and a little ripped off by it.
