  1. Mm-hmm. This isn't WWI. We've seen almost 100 years of change since then! The 40's really showed what war was to the UK, then periods of change like the 60's... I frankly couldn't give less of a shit If I saw a poster like that. As if one person would make a difference anyway. ["AGAH! BUT IF YOU SAY THAT, NO ONE WILL GO!>!!>!NO ARMY NO WIN"] ---- I wasn't benefitted in any way whatsoever by my year of CCF. And somehow I doubt actual National Service would be some revelation to me. I never wish to be associated with any army, personally. I proudly own a white poppy that I'll wear on November 11th.
  2. So? It's my life, I'd prefer to die doing something meaningful. (Me being in the armed forces wouldn't be meaningful, I'd hide behind a rock with my eyes closed, until everyone's dead, or I get killed by the opposition when they find me) Please, get over yourself. And someone (Gizmo?) mentioned that it's like paying taxes...urm...It's not. My life does in no way equal paying taxes. In the end, one ends up homeless due to intense money troubles, not dead. And I know that there are provisions for the homeless (especially in Edinburgh), but not for the dead/dying. To me, my life is more important than most other peoples in the world.*shrugs* I'm not gonna waste it doing shit all on a battlefield in the backend of nowhere.
  3. As a person with a similar to him, I doubt he would feel disgraced, as I wouldn't. Unless disgraced is not describing a feeling..? Why would he deserve it? Some of us want to live our lives as fullt as possible, why is that so bad? I have intense fear of death, hence I'm going into a battlefield to kill or be killed (probably both). I agree that he stereotyped, which is wrong, as it is a brave thing to do for many people. That doesn't mean everyone should have to, or that it's wrong that someone doesn't want to risk their life for (effectively) no reason.
  4. Comical as a description makes no sense. The 60's shows just keyed off what was the style in the comics, same with Burton's films and now Nolan's films. Batman comics have come a long way since the 60's, and the film reflect that (except Schumacher, but I'm not including them). So all 3 era's are comical.
  5. Why does serious equal realistic to you? It's based of a superhero comic, for heaven's sake. Be thankful they didn't let Penguin use his trick umbrellas more than he already did. Burton protrayed Penguin and Catwoman perfectly, managing to make them not uterly ridiculous (60's), while still making they dramatic villains. if you can't see that Burton's films are more serious AND realistic than the 60's, you've gone bonkers.
  6. Burton's films weren't lacking in darkness though. Compared to the actually dark Nolan films, yeah they were. Relative to the 60's show, they were worlds apart. 2 serious Jokers = Comparable. Or at least you can say which you prefer. Ledger's Joker was a better character, in any case. You can prefer the clown-ishness of Nicholson, but I don't.
  7. Yes, but Chair was making a point that they wouldn't just be getting half the people being sent out, they'd have to have both men and women, which would be highly impractical. What, a mother and father would have to leave their children in care, if they have no other relatives?
  8. Also, they're literally pointless to compare. The 60's Batman show wasn't serious in any way, it was light entertainment. Nicholson and Ledger played Joker in a serious environment.
  9. I hesitate with Plant and Krauss, only cause the album is all covers, IIRC? It's still good, though.
  10. What a shame...he was funny in the films I'd seen him in.
  11. But most of us here will have more "unknown" or "unpopular" music than we have the opposite, making it kinda redundant. And how do we know if something's popular? More people know who Goldfrapp are compared to Portishead, but Portishead are in no way "unknown".
  12. As a conscientious objector I had to do a year and a bit of my schools CCF, despite trying to get out of it. I offered to do other stuff in place of it, that would just benefit the school , but no, apparently marching around in squares was much more worth all involved's time. I mean sure, we didn't go into battle, a bunch of 14 year olds, but it's the principle. I don't like playing with guns, which is what we were doing. There were children out there playing with guns, only among soldiers in far off countries with an actual intent to kill people. Makes me sick.
  13. In what way? I highly doubt Nolan would recommend being inspired by the more "entertainment" type Batman films of the 80's and 90's. LEdger read The Killing Joke and The Long Hallowe'en to get into Joker, and probably a lot more comics. Nicholson just did an updated version of the 60's Joker, which he did well, making it a bit more scary. But he wasn't Joker, to me. I know it sounds superficial, but he was too bulky to be Joker for me. That combined with the fact that he didn't really get into the psychosis of Joker, who he is blah blah, made him weaker than Ledger. EDIT: I think my favourite (not the best) Joker on film is Mark Hamill's.
  14. By the way, the Mercury Music Prize shortlist is up now. This is one of the only awards for music I can respect, as it's got good music in it. I lost any respect for the Brits (I know, they've always been shit), when Bjork lost best international female to Kylie Minogue. Adele - 19 British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music Burial - Untrue Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid Estelle - Shine Laura Marling - Alas I Cannot Swim Neon Neon - Stainless Style Portico Quartet - Knee Deep In The North Sea Rachel Unthank & The Winterset - The Bairns Radiohead - In Rainbows Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raising Sand The Last Shadow Puppets - Age Of The Understatement Only heard of 2/3 of them, and own even less album wise. I'd like Laura Marling (unlikely) or Radiohead to win.
  15. I'd leave the country if National Service were ever put into action. Unless I could get a job in the forces where I wasn't in the battlefield. I'm not going to run into a desert to get shot for anyone.
  16. Can you just not use crap pictures at all? They just look really bad. It's funny using them sparingly. And if they're massive. Thanks a branch.
  17. Yeah but Heath Ledger was better at being The Joker.
  18. I can't remember how that one goes...I'll listen now.
  19. Can I just say that I can't stop listening to Luv Punch...it's just so good!
  20. Isn't that true for every artists/band a person loves that others don't, though? Or at least those that a different from the norm. I don't actually have that much against Enter Shikari. I'm just not a fan. I don't like that typical "annoying growl-quite whiny" voice combo.
  21. Oh yeah, forgot to say, mine's in the mail as we speak. Should be getting to D-Day soon. Since it was so late, I made 2 discs.
  22. Superman Returns I still feel that it's a funnily good movie. If you interpret it as trying to be different than other superhero films. Score is lowered to 6.5/10, however.
  23. Maybe. Far more integral is the fact he has no shown origin, though.
  24. To be fair to you, I just saw Enter Shikari on your last.fm, and it came into my head. Seems it's only me that can respect the music someone makes without liking it, then. (If it's worth respect, that is...I dislike McFly and don't respect their music, since I don't find it interesting in any way. Whereas with Coldpay, I respect them, but mostly dislike them.) And yeah, reading back, I am a Bjork zombie (sortof). But then she compels me to act. : peace: EDIT: I think I was more concerned by the fact you called her music shit, really. That's all. That's lumping her in with Booty Luv and The Jonas Brothers.
