I love how GREAT Scottish people are at comics. Morrison and Quitely, obviously, I've never been more stunned. And Mark Millar, though a bit more prone to fall into "overuse of the individual tropes". By that I mean you can TELL it's him writing, the way he structures sentences and the clauses. Everyone sounds quite smug/bitchy. But it's great, and he plots good stories.

Oh em gee, meeting Prince Charles tomorrow. I bet we'll be BFF's. Cancelled 3 possible fun things I could've done tonight in order to do more work. *lies on floor*

Interesting. I bet that it'll be anti-Superman. Or something like that. The posters are fairly heavy-handed in their message, I imagine it'll be some twist on the "saviour" concept.

RUMMY! As good as you've been/as much as I love you...it might be faster if someone else held it? *braces for assault*

That is pretty interesting (especially, as you say, from your perspective)...and a possible "future". Though it makes me sad for books and magazines.

I was tempted. I'm so glad you did it. --- Semi-related. I'm using my dumbells everyday now. Woo. Presumably won't do anything though, since I'm not doing anything else besides walking in terms of exercise/diet.

I really hope he does something different eventually. I'm sure he probably gets offered this stuff on a plate and it pays the bills and then some, but it's tired. George Michael Bluth isn't being bettered everytime he plays him again.

YES ANGELA BASSET AS AMANDA WALLER. She has a natural "What the FUCK is that SMELL?" face.

I prefer the white one. It's more eye-catching.

The Dark Knight , X-Men 2, Iron Man etc all captured the "essence" of their respective comics decades long history (70 years in Batman's case), while telling an original story. There are some elements that need to remain in the characters through translation. Spider-Man wasn't Spider-Man at all. He wasn't amusing or quick-witted. The humour in the films usually came from the minor characters like Jameson and Betty Brant, which is just backward. I tried watching the films a few months ago and just switched them off half-way through. I'd seen them enough...they suck the life out of me. Reading Ultimate Spider-man provides a modern re-imaging of Spidey to much greater effect.

Well as far as I'm aware I've never seen anything he's been in. I'd vaguely heard of Diff'rent Strokes before...

I think it's probably a bit different if you've read and loved the comics for most of your life though. None of the characters except Aunt May actually captured anything of the comic characters they were based on. I think some perfomances worked well...I liked Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn, even though it's a bit different from the comics, it had to be. But Peter Parker, Spidey and Mary Jane are the three that needed to be done right and instead of the smart, full-of-life characters from the comics, we get slurring, sleepy-eyed 20-somethings who inspire nothing but nonchalance. At least the X-Men movies tried to get it some what right in capturing the essence of the source material (the third one is bad though, let's not lie).

A great game. It took me ages (years) to work out how to get DL content onto it, but once I did, I had too much fun playing with The Avengers, JLA etc.

I love how the X-verse is going at the moment, how it's mirroring more and more Genosha. Also ties into why Magento is such a good character, especially as a villain; Most of the time, you find yourself agreeing with what he's saying. (I've been rereading the Ultimate X-Men recently too, and he's done os well there..he's unforgiving and obviously his lack of care for any human life is alien, but putting yourself in a mutants shoes, he's portrayed as otherwise almost reasonable, and very charasmatic.) I don't think Scott will pull a Mags though. I also hope Jean doesn't come back yet. I love her, but I actually like the fact they haven't brought her back properly yet. Although I'd love to see her come back just to see what Scott/Emma would do. Presumably it would just stay the same, I can't imagtine Jean breaking them up after what she told Scott when she died. Maybe she and Wolverine could finally just have sex for once.

*not really spoilers ahead, just minor activites from recent X-Men issues* Yeah that might explain why it's felt a bit odd how EVERYONE (except Hank obvs) is deferring to Scott. Practically soley. Sure he's probably the best leader there, but Storm would, as you say, be a nice counterpoint as she has her own say in things. I suppose she still holds leadership status, illustrated when she says she wants a talk in private with Scott regarding him keeping X-Force a secret from her. I want Magento and Kitty back on their feet soon though, both of them could be invaluable assets on the leadership/strategic front. --- I love. Cliff Chiang is a comic artist (mainly covers I think), and does these jokey 1980's reference things. EDIT: Posting the images doesn't work. Here's the link, they're within the first few pages. (Just in case you don't know: Breakfast Club, Rio by Duran Duran, Flashdance, Purple Rain by Prince and Pretty In Pink.)

Yeah I remember that...it was just really odd seeing Storm sporadically in X-Men and even then, not very highlighted. She's been one of the most central/important/prominent X-Men for 30 years or something.

I'm GOING to bed. I've done as much as I feel like doing of this rough cut/edit of my film shizz. Let me be weak and dream of sheep, for once. Ugh. I need to write what'll go on the little white info card beside it in the exhibition. I'm just going to quote Grant Morrison. Or Chair.

Does it actually get better? Cause I watched half of the first one and was like "...". I was so stunned (in a neither negative not positive way) by the random swearing/nudity.- 3920 replies
