  1. If it bombed on one format it would almost certainly lead to swift releases on other formats. Think Rayman going multiformat, that was a pre-emptive move since they knew the bomba was coming. Either way, I don't expect it to bomb, but if it did (or performed bad enough) it's hard to deny it could be good for other gamers.

"Nothing that has been shown about the about the game leads me to expect anything other than just that..." Well, it's a good job that most people here can see beyond the end of their nose. Like I already said, I'm not sure why you think it will be nothing more than a walking simulator. If it was, nobody would buy it. Who would buy a game to simply walk around? Seems obvious they're selling people on the appearance and setting (which they rightly know looks amazing) before showing you what the actual purpose of the game is, even if the purpose turned out to be nothing more than what Gone Home is about.
  3. Sorry, there is no way you can spin this as 'it helps the consumer'. It doesn't, it screws over maybe 65-70% or so (the majority!) of fans who can no longer play it. It is honestly the worst decision they could have made in terms of benefiting the consumer. The average consumer is basically being shafted. It's a pure and simple moneyhat and the announcement was basically in place of truth, which they obviously can't say. "Sorry, but when a fucken load of money was presented to us, we took it". I wouldn't look to any truth in Microsoft helping them make the game better. Their last game was mighty damn fine, they're clearly not in need of help in that department.
  4. Oh man, I hope that's true. That's almost like that episode of Peep Show.
  5. Your other games must be fucking amazing then. :p

I don't understand this. Why do you not believe it will have puzzles until you see them? As if puzzles are an incredibly precious resource that would be difficult to put in. Surely you realise that guessing the game will be nothing more than a walking simulator is stupid?

In Gone Home you only have walking around and very simple interactions with objects around you. Doesn't stop it being one of the best game experiences in the last couple of years for me.
  8. I thought you had a student loan? What's another £350? :p
  9. Shady ain't the right word. The problem that people perceive, like has been said, is how Microsoft's tactic is essentially to take a stranglehold on the franchise rather than nurture it. It leaves a bit of a sour taste and it's a totally anti-consumer move. At least in the case of other exclusives there is an understanding that the company involved is supporting the studio and helping it produce content, financially or otherwise. In this case they've already been developing their game and the money is just to shut the other outputs down. So it's understandable that people should be annoyed about it (people who seem to be relishing it are coming across as fanboys, tbh). Well, I just don't see this working for them from a sales point of view (due to the insane levels of moneyhatting that must have been involved). They know their console is pretty unattractive right now (notice their figures are usually consoles 'shipped') and this is their way of getting more customers. They know if they can convince people who haven't dived into next gen yet to get their console then there's a decent chance they'll stick with it if they start subscribing/playing with friends. Just don't see it working with TR though. Closing thoughts on MS here, summarised pretty well by someone over on EG: Both very valid business models that you'd never call 'shady'. But I'll be damned if I don't have an opinion about it. :p
  10. Best announced game so far.
  11. Well, we're hoping it will come to PS4...eventually. Seems silly to ignore money lying on the table.
  12. I'm with ya man, this and Robin Williams, if it weren't for being offered a job today I'd be down in tragic alley right with you. This is shitsauce in a shell. Similar kinds of practices like when Rayman went from exclusive to multiplatform are just so much better than this, since at least everyone then gets to play. This blows.
  13. That depends who you ask about these parts.
  14. Seriously? In which case, I won't be buying it, and I'm sure that's the case for many more too. It's too expensive to buy both consoles so early into the cycle. And not just that, I actually don't want to. I highly doubt this is going to bring the money back for Microsoft. Given the Remastered version of TR sold at 2:1 (PS4:X1), the amount of money they must have had to throw must have been colossal. They're wiping off a potential two-thirds (more if this counts PC) of their customers. How much must that have cost? This very much seems like a guaranteed loss-making move with the ultimate intention to make the console seem more appealing and relevant. I really don't see this working on its own, though. People know the PS4 is a more powerful console and for various reasons it's beasting the X1. My opinion, but on its own I don't see this working.
  15. Part of the reason Tomb Raider didn't sell well must have been that people didn't know the series wasn't mediocre anymore. Now they know it's really good and they want more of it. S-E are going to miss out on some serious sales if it really remains exclusive, and I think this is really bad publicity. This is basically just silencing money, as opposed to the good kind of backing/exclusivity where a console manufacturer cultivates a company and helps them to develop games. From the looks of it, a good chunk of this game must be done or at least fully planned out. Such a fucking shame. It depends whether the amount of money they channeled into it is good value for the amount of sales they'll end up getting (my guess is not, this must have been a megaton moneyhat), and whether it remains an actual exclusive.
  16. What do you guys think the chances are that this will still eventually release on PS4? Seems like there's just so much extra money to be made.
  17. Ha, so true. What an unreal level of cack this decision is. I can't even begin to understand the level of moneyhatting that must have had to happen to secure this. Pretty sure that given TR originally launched on the PlayStation that there'd be more of a userbase there, so to make sure they only sold on X1...Christ. Serious money-hatting indeed. Either way, totally anti-consumer. The two consoles are effectively worlds apart for your average consumer (£350 initial fee plus potential £30-40 per year online subscriptions). People really don't want to get both. You have to reel at the level of bullshit in the message Because Microsoft's consoles have always been the console of choice for action adventure games as opposed to shooters, ja? (PS. Yes I am butthurt by this, go easy) I'm going to share a sadface emoticon with @Fierce_LiNk here, who I know will be equally devastated.
  18. How did you manage to fall in the canal?
  19. So I heard back from the company today. *drumroll* I got the job! I start in the London office at King's Cross on 1st October. Terms sound really good, especially the 28.5k starting salary. Wasn't expecting them to say that much for the starting role. 25 days holiday and life insurance too. Woo-hoo!
  20. I tried playing it... While it's by no means bad, the first two games follow the character of Yuri while the third game is a different character. The second game basically wraps up the storyline for the protagonist of the first two games and is absolutely awesome. Third game felt like something you could pass up on and not really as important in the grand scheme of things.
  21. That's a good point, one I hadn't actually considered. The gamepad represents a problem to me in my multimedia setup as I don't really have space to put the thing, meaning it just ends up lying on the coffee table gathering dust and looking unsightly.
  22. Still gonna bug ya to get Shadow Hearts 1 + 2 for your PS2. :P The bast turn based battle system a game has ever seen.
  23. I definitely think there is something up with your PS4 fan, as I wouldn't use any of those words to describe my PS4. It takes up a bit of space but it has this sort of thin look to it (I think because it extends more into the back which isn't as visible as if it was a taller or wider unit). I don't know, to me I'm impressed with the PS4 size because it's quite a bit smaller than my PS3 (I have the original). Definitely never hear a peep from it. Also, you guys (or just kav) not feeling it for TLOU? I thought it was some of the best gameplay of the last generation, hands down. The story is touching, and if making a film comparison I'd say that actually playing the game makes you more vested in the outcomes so it manages to do something a film does not (even if the best films outrank the best game stories). Dunno, but I thought it was amazing and easily one of my top games last gen. I was a bit disappointed with that. I guess I was looking for something more new done with Mario than put into a 'World' cookie cutter and presented as a main console entry. It veered too much into handheld territory, which to me has always played second fiddle to the main console entries that SM64 sparked.
  24. Oh man, that is so damn sad. Loved a lot of his films. RIP.
  25. lol. Never change.
