  1. Megaman though, that's something I think of in a similar way to Dark Souls. As in you've got to stay alive for a while, exercising caution and playing skilfully up until you clear the boss. If they put save states in Dark Souls letting you quickly undo falling into a trap, I'd be pretty mortified. I wouldn't be like 'well it's interesting to see how people review it with this new feature compared to the reviews where this feature wasn't there. Some things, just don't fuck with it.
  2. Isn't the temptation to use them if you die to quickly clear levels to write your review? I dunno, I have the feeling you might come away with a very different perspective of the game (specifically the Megaman series), and the risk/reward rush you would normally get wouldn't be there. Nah, I'd prefer they took their time to play the game it's meant to be played.
  3. Restore points for Megaman is just wrong. There goes the challenge.
  4. Might be on in an hour to check this shit out. First time in weeks I'll have been on.
  5. I get what you're saying Serebrah, I just don't particularly agree that this has aged the controls...considerably. The wall jumps in modern Mario games today, for instance, feel super easy to achieve, because you can slide until you literally drop off the platform. With that example I'd say it's more a design choice. In fact, the 3D Mario games have all seemed quite a bit easier since SM64 (you had the hoverpack AKA FLUDD in Sunshine, gravity in Galaxy, using a catsuit or tanuki costume to decimate levels in SM3DW...if anything, I'd say this game relies more on Mario himself and his moves than any of its 3D sequels). Also invisible walls were a very minor nuance of the game and generally speaking weren't even much of a problem. Once again I'm not denying they haven't polished parts of the way Mario feels since but it still controls brilliantly and I wouldn't say his moves have aged badly at all. In terms of games of the past, SM64 still plays amazingly today. It'd be very near the top of a list of old games that still play well. Yeah, quarter turns of the camera are weird indeed in this day and age. I'd say that's definitely one of the ways you can tell this game isn't a spring chicken. Dem feelz to control Mario though, still there.
  6. IMO, the controls in the game let you place your character exactly where you want him to be (maybe flying aside, but I always felt that that was supposed to be tricky). The flying example isn't so much an example of how the game has aged, anyway, since it was tricky back then too. With this game, let's not forget Mario's moveset went from pretty much just running and jumping to the basic jumps plus sliding, triple jumping, wall jumping, backflips and long jumps. I'm not going to argue for one second that the controls have not been polished with successive sequels but the game was and still is a masterclass on how to design a character that feels good to control. And more importantly...the controls haven't even changed that much. Mario still controls mostly the same in 3D games as he did in Mario 64. That's one of the main reasons I'd argue that the game still feels good to control, because you pretty much know where you are with it. I read an article on Eurogamer recently that discussed what makes Mario 64 a timeless classic and it reminded me of how much work went into making Mario feel great to control. It's really astounding how much work went into it, and that's why it still feels great to play today. For me, at least: I'll never accept the gibberish output of your scrambled egg brain!
  7. Guess what else has 'collision issues' if you suck? Mario Kart! Feel free to extend this joke to any game requiring one to 'git gud'.
  8. That seems kinda weird. All they're doing is putting a digital copy of Splatoon in a box with a Wii U premium?
  9. The controls of that game are legendary. Not sure what you're talking about to be honest. Maybe you just suck at the game?
  10. So this game is now coming out June here? Or is that just the bundle?
  11. How do you mean? The controls are the archetype for pretty much every 3D Mario game since then, no? IMO the controls in Mario 64 are excellent. Unless you mean the way the buttons have been mapped not being a good match for more modern controllers? Also you so did not just call it a "decent" game.
  12. Gamestop frequently took months to reply to me about an order with them once. So, y'know, don't feel bad about taking your sweet time replying to them either, should they try follow up with you.
  13. Keep it, obviously. Wait a little while then sell it. :awesome: I said in that topic the other day that Gamestop are one of the most shoddy, fuckwarderly games companies there are. Turns out that incompetence swung in your favour on this day; take advantage!
  14. I can't wait for this personally. I heard it can be challenging but altogether very fun. If it's not too expensive I might buy it soon.
  15. Yeees. Loved this game from start to finish. Easily my favourite game on the system so far.
  16. Not sure man, would depend on whether more would be up for it.
  17. Get rid of "confirmed" and it's perfect.
  18. Really, I think I'd have to liken this argument to the saying "closing the stable door after the horse has bolted". Claiming that Nintendo's poor marketing is related to their ailing fortunes is a bit like claiming the poor grooming of a horse was a factor for why the horse didn't win the show. Despite the fact the horse had already bolted.
  19. I make no concessions for how bad their advertising is. But to say "it's no coincidence their fortunes dropped as their advertising switched" is too much of a stretch; that's not really the reason why they're in their current situation.
  20. Going to say it again but you can't put this down to the advertising campaign. Ultimately the Wii was a desirable product that captivated the public with a cool and novel gimmick, while the DS flourished in a pre-app store world with all the right types of casual games. The Wii U / 3DS offer nowehere near as revolutionary concepts and do little to capture the public's eye; far less due to the way they're positioned and more to do with the actual product on offer. The reason they haven't done as well is so very little to do with the advertising.
  21. £43.95 here and you get a physical version. Also 2% cashback on Quidco. You may as well wait a bit to see if better deals pop up (or to see if discount codes pop up for that website).
  22. Stupendously good value for a PS4 with games: Playstation 4 Black Console + Bloodborne + Driveclub + The Last of Us or The Order: 1886 - £309.00 with code at Tesco Direct
  23. It would; it'd just contain other stuff too.
  24. I agree on the Pro pad placement, there's a reason why none of the others do it.
