I couldn't help but think of this post when Eurogamer posted this article today. TL;DR but using consoles (and particularly the PS4) for watching catchup/Netflix etc. is incredibly energy inefficient compared to a Chromecast at least. Per the metrics a PS4 uses 30 times as much energy as a Chromecast while using it for streaming.

It's pretty cool they're refunding customers without needing to send the hardware back. Like many I picked up the Chromecast 4K + Stadia controller bundle for 20 quid last year, which was already a steal. To get the money back and keep the hardware is pretty great.

True, but imagine if Cyberpunk (on 360) got leaked in this way. The unreal level of backlash would have led to them improving the game before launch. Also this is Rockstar, so I don't really have much sympathy for them.

Yeah I had realised that's probably what he meant and edited my post pretty quickly, but you still managed to see it. I think the point you made about needing a custom controller is spot on. I guess my point is that Theatrhythm on 3DS was perfectly designed for it, whereas this looks like it could be tricky with a standard controller setup.

Do you mean this specific game isn't? The one being released? I guess it's a bit of a shame because I can't imagine pressing buttons on the Switch would be as good an experience as using a stylus on 3DS, but then you can't use a hard stylus with the Switch anyway.

Thinking about that, I wonder how well it will work. I think a stylus worked well for precise touching of the different keys, but I'm not so sure how easy it will be to touch with fingers when the speed kicks up.

A kind of strange and fourth wall breaking poster I'd say. Cloud was a bit of a scrub in this game really, it's like they're saying "Yeah we know this guy is gonna be important, so let's slap him on there."

They should have gone with Breath of the Wild: Skyward Sword.

Theatrhythm was great fun, nice to see this being brought to more modern consoles. There's something about 3DS that makes me loath to go back to it (possibly it being in standard definition with much smaller screens). It feels like a really old device, much older than it actually is. Also trophy support on the PS4 should be nice.

What a disaster. Copies will have been sold on the promise that it would be added. I used to love playing Halo co-op back in the day, it's a shame that co-op (as opposed to online) gets way less priority these days.

Also saw this earlier, it's pretty hilarious how much Dunkey dislikes anime mannerisms. To be fair to him, they are pretty damn stupid. I had to laugh at his line that the robot was the best character on account of it not talking. And yep, as someone who played Xenoblade 2 the main character would utter the same idiotic lines every time he clicked a gather spot. "Come out, come out!"

Yeah pretty sure they won't follow suit. Their plan is to get the systems into homes, sell Game Pass subscriptions on the cheap and then price hike down the road. With the PS5 selling out much quicker Sony are in a better position to do it too.

For once early adopters are being rewarded.

I just find this whole line of reasoning really strange. Like you've totally been a jerk here about a pretty positive announcement, and instead of acknowledging it you're basically resorting to whataboutery.

Nobody would have said a thing, I'm betting. Forums are mostly dead now because everything moved to Facebook/messenger and other social media. It's nothing to do with the types of chat happening, purely changing times.

Who's willing to imagine how the responses might have gone should Nintendo have announced such a controller instead? You know, just for academic purposes.

This is actually more like an Xbox Elite Elite controller. What with the standard PS5 controller already having more features than the Xbox controller. In all seriousness though, I'm not sure I'd trust buying one of these. Sony are pretty shocking when it comes to repairing controllers out of warranty, and if you blew £150 or so on this and it broke in some way where you couldn't just switch out parts you'd be livid.

Yeah, there's a lot of reasons for the gap really. One thing that comes to mind is that you don't see the output of games like you used to. Remember with Final Fantasy on the PS1, where we got FFVII, VIII and IX on one console? You're lucky to get more than one on a given console now. There's also been DLC for BOTW which has extended the life of the game, and the pandemic. And Nintendo seem to use Zelda to sell a new console now (like they did by delaying TP and BOTW to line up with the new console release). Wouldn't surprise me if they do the same thing here to line up with a Switch 2/Pro (or even just another Switch revised model).

I thought exactly the same! It's very dry, FFT. Like an amateur dramatic production where everyone takes things too seriously. It also felt sluggish to play and the colour pallet was dull. And the story was pretty forgettable. I also never got too far with FFT and was always curious why it got remastered while FFTA never did. For me, FFTA was easily one of the best games on the system.

I do like Tactics games so I'll probably check this out at some point. That said, I'd absolutely love a remake/remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Such a fantastic game with a great soundtrack too.

Fantastic month. Completed Yakuza LAD a couple of months ago and it's a great game. Tony Hawk's isn't really my game but I know a lot of people like it.
