It's a good thing they haven't included the Classic controller as standard. If they had, I think developer's, being more accustomed to making games for traditional controllers, would support that more than the remote, diminishing the console's focus on innovative controls.

Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote
c0Zm1c replied to BeerMonkey's topic in Nintendo Gaming
A solution to that might be for the game to ask players to define their fixed position when the game starts - I think the TrackIR software is configured in a similar fashion - maybe even give players the option to redefine it from the pause menu should they decide they want to sit somewhere else (change their fixed position). It might even be possible for future systems to intelligently sense where players are sat/stood on the fly by continually monitoring their actions and configure a fixed position based on the extent of their movements. -
I don't think we do all know that, or at least some of us don't believe that to be the case. I feel that a lot of people favour the 360 and PS3 for the HD graphics and the traditional controllers, and I know that a lot of people have high regards for the 360's unified system, and some prefer the Wii for its controls, as do some the PC for the same. So it really does seem like the machine [what it offers or can do, and any extraneous features and capabilities] is what makes the game for some of us, or at least constitutes a very important factor. Anyway, I think the Wii is in desperate need of online games. There's a few already out, but it's still seriously lacking compared with the other two consoles.

It's already here on PC (and has been for a few years now), check out the TrackIR video I linked to in my previous reply. I'm really tempted to get it, but I only have about 10 games that support it and at £110 it's a little hard to justify. I'm still fighting the temptation though! -

It would probably use motion scaling, as does . -
I agree. But the thing is, sales figures (provided they are accurate) are factual, where as quality is highly subjective: it's simply easier to declare a winner using facts than it is an opinion. For the record, I liked the Gamecube more than I did the PS2 and Xbox even though it will always been known as the loser of that generation (because of it having the least overall sales).
-
I'm not quite sure what you mean. Surely the same could be said of the Wii versus the PS3 (assuming they have a similar outcome)? Regardless, it's still amusing that, because a Nintendo console is selling the most, some guy says overall sales figures suddenly aren't a factor in which console is the winner of this generation. Let's, for example, say the Wii was to suddenly lose its appeal and eventually languish in third place behind both 360 and PS3. I'm pretty sure sales figures would become an important factor again!
-
Why specifically this generation though? Were attach rates unimportant in previous generations?
-
It made me laugh when one of them said that this generation's winner shouldn't be decided by sales.

I forgot, I'm getting Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for Christmas. The next game I'm getting myself will probably be No More Heroes.
-
Probably No More Heroes.

I'm wondering why too, considering it's so popular on the PC. I've not played any of the Trackmania games, but if I did (and I'm tempted) it would be the PC version.
-
I'd be surprised if it were!
-
I suppose the main reason to want the PC version would be to play the game with a mouse. I hear it doesn't support it though, even after patching. A PC game with shooting in it that doesn't support mouse input - were they trying to be funny or something? I hear there's a mod out that adds it though.

Those 'statistics' support your opinion. But since they're based on opinions they are far from gospel. Here's some more statistics for you that are also not gospel... You left out my favourite Wii game, RE4: Wii Edition, which got a 9 in EDGE. Halo 3 and Gears Of War are overrated, I would give them an 8 and 7 respectively. Metroid Prime 3 was underrated, probably a result of being buried under Halo 3's hype - which just happened to be reviewed in the same issue. EDGE seem to have a habit of doing that, like the time they awarded Saints Row the somewhat unfair score of 6 when running an article on GTA IV in the same issue. -

Oops, my mistake. Eighteen month old hardware, it ran fine on my old Radeon X1900XTX which I bought early 2006. EDIT: actually, I was right. Shader Model 3.0 has been around for over two-years (on Nvidia cards at least). -
It's still going to have to do something special to justify having been in development hell for 10 years, even within the standards of a Duke Nukem game.

PC game developers tend to stick with genres that are the most popular amongst the format's gamers, so there is a lack in variety. In that respect it has always been stagnant. But it's not like there isn't a push for innovation within those popular genres. It's really the best way to standout. Not all developers demand players have high end systems either. The Orange Box's requirements are quite modest, and MMO developers would see a poor number of subscriptions if their games weren't designed to be played on the majority of PC systems. BioShock runs surprisingly well on two-year old hardware too. -

Taste is subjective. I thought everyone knew that. -

The Wii seems like business as usual to me. Sure, there's lots of casual games, and Nintendo is arguably marketing to that audience more. But I don't exactly feel starved of games with a bit more meat to them, or at least not any less than with the Gamecube. Since Nintendo hasn't abandoned its most treasured of series', I really think it just comes down to taste - you either like your Mario's, Zelda's, and Metroid's, or you don't. Saying that though, I'm not as enthusiastic about this generation as I was the last. It's nothing to do with the Wii though - I've enjoyed it more than I have the 360 and PS3. I returned to console gaming back in 2002 with the Xbox and Halo after seven or so years spent away from it (skipping the Playstation/N64 era, the Dreamcast, and much of the PS2), and like in the mid 90's, I guess I'm just beginning to tire of console gaming again. If I am to give up console gaming I'll continue PC gaming. For some reason I never tire of that. Probably because it never seems as rammed down my throat (commercialised) as does console gaming. -

Anyone who's into PC gaming could say that easily. Granted, Halo 3 has yet to arrive on PC. But it's not like there isn't plenty of other (and better) FPS's to play instead. -

RE4 may be a port of a two-year old game, but at the same time it feels a lot more at home on the Wii. -
I want that version so much too!

If it wasn't for Fable 2 I'd abandon the 360 completely. I may not have played many of its games, and therefore don't have an accurate opinion of it as a whole, but that's because very few games out for the console actually interest me. -
For gaming online over a wireless connection? Yes, I suppose it is.
