  1. A penny for my thoughts: Multiformat: Edge or/and Games TM Both very well written, very professional, unbiased and give harsh but fair reviews. When they say a game is good, you can bet you derrière it's good. Unlike other magazines, the scoring is more logic: an 5 is average (not necessarely bad, just nothing new), a 7 good, an 8 very good etc. etc. Nintendo: N-Revolution (Only Wii, DS and retro!) Only three issues so far. Unbiased, a very good read, are "in the know" as it were and have a excellent sense of humour. They haven't made any reviews yet, so I can't comment on them. What not to get: ONM. Harsh, but for the obvious reasons.
  2. Hey, I quite like that design! Very funky indeed and very... Wario Ware! Who can argue with those funky clouds? Represents the game perfectly. Can't wait!
  3. I won't care too much about Gamerankings Top 10. This is a nice tool to know how well a game was recieved at it's time of release but it's no good to compare a game released today with a game released almost 8 years ago. Standards have changes, bars have been raised. That's not to say Ocarina of Time isn't a bad game, far from it! It's still a timeless masterpiece, but it's pointless to compare scores of games which are seperated by almost a decade. It's no more than normal that OoT should score higher then TP as it was unprecedented back than. Still, let me choose today between a copy of OoT and TP, and there will be no doubt in my mind as to which I should choose. Besides, the difference between OoT and TP is a meager 2,6%... That reads an both an "Excellent" in my book. Other examples: GTAIII scores higher than San Andreas, and everyone knows what is the better game. It's simply because there was nothing like GTAIII when it was released. When GTA:SA came out, while it was a better game, gamers had already tasted the likes of GTAIII and Vice City. Metal Gear Solid 2 is billed as the best MGS according to the list, and it's not even the Substance-version. The original Gran Turismo beats the crap out of GT4, but what would you rather play today? This is no fault on GR's account. You just have to interpretate such a list in a proper way. If we only want the games with the highest scores, there is no need to play Twilight Princess at all. Let's all just stay with OoT then. Then everybody is... er... happy? Well, so far for my rant of the day.
  4. I've seen them too today. Indeed, the cases are very stylish! I did have a feeling there was a lot of blank space on the back, but that could just be me. Anyway, there were two copies of CoD3 just sitting there, all alone on a soon-to-be-filled shelf. Oh, and it was priced €54,95.
  5. Thanks to http://pressstarttoplay.net/ for building up the hype just al little more.
  6. Too true... One of the most tragic tragedies in videogame-history. Dreamcast, we hardly knew ye. May the dream live on in a place where such foul injustice cannot occur.
  7. Actually, I found the original to be stupid enough to begin with. Tsk tsk tsk. Ain't I the naughty cookie...
  8. OK, thanks for the quick replies! My worries have been laid to rest. Yes, I now recall Freeloader working on Wii. I should have figured it out then, but I why have brains when you have fora? Thanks! I'm not exactly new the N-europe, though. I go way back to N64-Europe, but I have this strange tendency to change names. Very often. But you're welcome! Well, almost every console does it, with the exceptions of the original Playstation and Gamecube (maybe more?). Think Xbox(360). When you eject, you go back to the main system menu.
  9. Curiosity kills the cat, but then again I'm a cookie, no cat. There are several 2-disc GC-games, like Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Killer 7, etc. etc. We all know the Wii is backward compatible. However, with these games, won't there be a problem when trying to boot up the second disc on Wii? With the Gamecube, you can switch discs without shutting down the system. You see the message "Insert disc 2", open the Gamecube, insert disc 2 and close it again. No problem! But won't the Wii reset itself when you press "eject" in order to take disc 1, hence losing the opportunity to boot up the second disc? Unless you can save when you should switch discs, but I can't recall if that's the case. Any clever minds outthere?
  10. Nice! I wonder if they made that Wiimote-getup specifically for that nightmare-shot! Guess they got too much time on their hands.
  11. If those are Wii-shots, I'll eat my hat. And I'm not fond of that prospect, because I quite like my hat. It's the "Let's put the best-looking shots of the best-looking version on all boxes"-strategy that EA is so eager to use.
  12. I'd love to, as I live rather near, but I'm performing next week. Rehearseals, rehearsals, rehearsals! But I expect a full report! Anything less than 2 A4's simply will not do! Have fun, you lucky Gamepower Expo-visiting scoundrels...
  13. Well, that's what makes them fanboys, I'm afraid. Fanboys, whether on Sony's, Microsoft's or Nintendo's side, slay everything that doesn't fit in their confined mindset with anything they can find, be it "non-HD graphics", "boring games", "unfunctional controls", "plagiarism, etc". They ought to be ignored. It's a fine line between having an opinion on a subject, and bashing something simply for the sake of bashing. Now, go in peace and spread the Luv! : peace: EDIT: I guess I expressed myself badly here. Boring games ofcourse should be bashed. What I mean is that fanboys will automticaly claim games from their "rivals" are boring, even though they never played it, much in the same way some claim Wii's controls to be unfunctional, even though they haven't even been near a Wiimote, let alone play on it. The point is, it's good to have an opinion... if you have something to base that opinion on. I won't bash the PS3, since I simply havn't played it yet. Hope that clears it up.
  14. I mentioned this in another tread too, but... Newcomer: Mii
  15. I haven't encountered any kind of scam like this in Belgium yet, even though the problem certainly isn't new. It's a real shame stores are trying to get a big buck fast and easily. Then again, it are stores, but it doens't seem very customer-oriëntated to decide which games people are going to buy with their brand new console. Blasted economics! Depends really. With the DS and PSP, I didn't preorder and got one on launchday. But I did preorder my Dreamcast and Xbox360, and if I hadn't, it's unlikely I would have gotten one on day 1. I preordered my Gamecube too, but there were enough to go around, so it didn't really matter. I think Nintendo will have enough units available for this launch, but if you want to be really sure, I suggest you preorder. I know some stores who split their allocated stocks in "preorders" and "non-preorders", so you can always buy a console without preordering as long as the stock lasts. Looking back at the 360-launch, they didn't even have a "non-preorder"-stock. If you didn't preorder, you had to wait, sometimes until the second wave in february in you were unlucky. If you want a Wii on day 1 and you can find a store where you can really order what you want or would be lucky enough to find a store with a package that suits you, there is no harm in preordering. Well, at least they chose games which are looking rather good (even though Excite Truck probably isn't a launch game)! They could have forced you to preorder Rampage and Barnyard instead! Now that'd be one sour deal!
  16. That's the spirit! My collegues know I won't be in that day, yet they have no idea why. They are not as gameminded as I am. And I still have free days to spare! Ah, the benefits of a government job!
  17. Probably Wii sports. Even though there will be a shiny copy of Twilight Princess and a whole bunch of GC-games I bought specificaly for Wii. (Yes, I sold my GC some years before. Yes, I know it was a stupid thing to do. Yes, I missed out on Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil 4, etc. Yes, I bought those, amongst others. ) Just to get a feel for it. Get accustomed to the Wiimote. Then save Hyrule from an unspeakable threat and rescue a damsel in distress! Shame Wario Ware won't make the launch, though. It'd be the perfect game for that sort of thing! Oh well, "l'Aspiration est mieux que la possession..."
  18. Too true... A real shame. Make no mistake, I have a Xbox360 and HDTV and lovin' every HD-pixel of it, but it's a "nice-to-have" rather than a "need-to-have". I played Ocarina of Time on N64 (the antithesis of HD) on a small telly with mono-sound. Even when I play it today with the same setup, it still stands its ground. As a test, I recently switched my Xbox360 to SD. You really do notice the difference... for about 30 seconds and than you just play the game. No resolution should ever make or break a game. It's not as if a crappy game gets a gameplayboost in high-def. Nor can a low resolution hide a classic. I too would have liked HD-support, but I am honestly not losing any sleep over it. Zelda in 480p or 720P? That boomerang still looks mighty sweet to me! ... My, I'm whining! I must be getting old... Now get of my lawn, you lil' scoundrals!!
  19. Said fixed retice setup would even be less ideal. How would you turn 180°, let alone 360°, without getting couterintuitive? Either you would have to literaly turn you Wiimote around (Try aiming when the Wiimote is pointed towards you) or the setup would have to be so sentivive that moving the Wiimote to the left or right would enable to turn full-circle. This would sacrifice a lot of accuracy, not even mentioning the burden of having to move forward while facing left. This setup works wonders on PC, because you can "unattach" a mouse. When you want to turn further to the left but you're at the side of your mousemat, you can simply lift your mouse and reposition in in the center of the mat, without moving your onscreen reticle . With Wiimote, this is not possible, unless they allow you to "unattach" the Wiimote by holding a button. Needless to say, this would get very clumsy. Just hold a remote in front of your telly, and imagine playing a FPS with said setup. Now try turning 360°. Something isn't right. I prefer the setup developers now use. Well, I prefer the sound of it, since I have yet to play on a Wii. Anyway, feel free to prove me wrong!
  20. I'm making a little sidestep here, but it is relevant to this thread... in a way. Is it already known if Wii will have the ability to display Gamecube-games in glorious 16:9-vision? No big deal, but it'd be nice.
  21. Probably by buying one. If that plan should fail, an act of excessive violence towards a fellow costumer who was succesful in said plan ought to do the trick. Naughty me...
  22. Indeed! I'm very sorry, ZeldaFreak! Don't take it personal, though. As you can see, we posted at more or less the same time, so I didn't see your post when I was writing mine. I've edited my post.
  23. Nice tread! Here's mine: Dave - Beloved Can't say I noticed any of that so far, though... I've had some Nintendo-related fun. Luigi - Famous fighter Link - From the bank Zelda - See previous post
  24. Oh, yes... And Shenmue 1/2 is my second best game. Or games. Or series. You get the point.
