  1. I think the Playstation 3 is going to be a good console, of course it will be. At $600USD it will be a perfect Playstation. The tilting is quite cool, but it isn't the same as the Wii remote, not even close. You can't recreate swinging a sword with the PS3 controller, you can't point and fire a gun with the PS3 controller, you can't use the PS3 controller as a tennis racket - and isn't that the whole point of the Wii controller? That you can. No doubt about it, the PS3 controller will be good for some things, but the Wii remote does so much more this does nothing to lessen Nintendo's thunder.
  2. Think of it this way, Nintendo will have motion sensor control games playable TOMORROW. Lots of them. Sony's version will never be able to recreate the level of accurate control and they will probably only have a couple of games using it by launch whereas all of the games launching on Wii will use the control and the power of the controller will be highly noticeable. It's a war of words alone. Nintendo have convince with the goods, and I have no doubt they will. Nintendo have come to E3 prepared. My opinion is that Nintendo WILL deliver the goods before or at the same time as Sony - look at DS and PSP. Look at the winner.
  3. Stealing the idea - albeit nowhere near of Nintendo's motion sensing quality - is expected, but calling it an "innovation". Dirtiest business guys yet! It IS an innovation, but not Sony's!
  4. I'm not at all worried. I think Nintendo knows it needs to reach out to an older audience - as they say, they need to appeal to all audiences. We've already seen Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel and Sadness. All of which are far from having a kiddie image. Throw into that some of the announced sports games and Tony Hawk Downhill-thingy and the older demographic is already well catered for before any of the big announcements have even been made.
  5. If you think about it, the controller has never been so important to a console. I wonder if the controller will form the second half of the Wii name - not in a marketing sense, but by word of mouth. If the controller has a name that fits onto the end of Wii, it makes the single syllable name make even more sense. This is just my own crazy talk, but I'm guessing the controller won't in fact even be called a controller. It will be given more prominence.
  6. I'm not surprised at all by this. Is anyone seriously not interested in seeing what the hell Nintendo Wii is all about? Doubt it. I'd imagine that if anyone was let loose in E3 the first thing they'd head to is Nintendo's booth. Nintendo own E3 2006 and I don't even need to see any software to confirm that.
  7. I have to say, it's grown on me majorly. I was shocked initially, but now I don't want it to be called anything else. In terms of uniqueness, it doesn't get more freakily weird than Wii. And I wouldn't expect anything less from the New Nintendo. Also, Wii is so memorable, and this backlash is damn great! It's being reported everywhere in the UK - BBC, Guardian, CNN. I bet you it makes the papers tomorrow, smack bang in front of the most important Gameshow of Nintendo's entire history. Nice. Also, the urinating on the competition thing is just brilliant. We've been shocked by the controller, we've been shocked about the graphics, we're shocked about the name... How amazing is Wii already and it we haven't even seen any Nintendo games. I bet you this thing is going to blow our minds at E3, seriously.
  8. Yeah, I agree - it will be accepted, and remembered. Plus it will be all made worthwhile when Reggie says, "Nintendo Wii, we p*ss on the competition"
  9. I like the idea of a mega short, weird name. I just wish it was pronounced "Why" as in WIFI rather than wee. Unless there is a urination game that's going to sell the system, now that's unique and global thinking.
  10. Makes sense to announce this now rather than getting lost in the Metroid hype. Looks really good already. Splendid.
  11. In terms of feedback they could require you to carryout the operation on a friend, or yourself! The TV screen could become like an X-ray machine. Then you'd have the advanced rumble for feedback/creating resistance.
  12. Imagine slicing and dicing people in full 3D! Could be the most gruesome game ever made if they wanted to make it really realistic. Even so, I'm very glad to have this game continued on Nintendo's next generation console.
  13. Revolution is the better idea and DS was a testing ground for it. They wanted to see if they could replace a much loved system (Gameboy) with a radically new control scheme. They were careful about it with the "3rd pillar" label. If it didn't work, they could back out. As it happened it has been a success and Gameboy will be fazed out (doubters of this will just have to wait and see.) The reason this was a test for Revolution is because they couldn't do the same with a home console. They couldn't introduce another home console, it wouldn't work. Yet they wanted to radically change the concept of the console (in the same way that DS changes the Gameboy). Now they know the gaming market is open to input change, in fact, they're craving it.
  14. It's quite annoying when people get disappointed at a lack of an announcement when Nintendo have already made it clear that nothing more will be revealed until E3. Personally, I hope the secret is the force feedback rumour from ages ago.
  15. So glad that's your top 2!! Have to admit to not playing Skies of Arcadia on Nintendo, but on Dreamcast, so not sure I can really add it in my top 5, but it's without doubt my second favourite game of all time after Ocarina Of Time. It simply is one of the best gaming experiences ever. 1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2. Metroid Prime 3. Lylat Wars 4. Mario Kart 64 (possibly soon to change to DS...) 5. Goldeneye 007
  16. That's not Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft's fault. "Fanboys" work themselves up based on rumours and not by the facts. E.g. Nintendo never said Revolution was going to be unveiled at E3 2005, everyone just ASSUMED it would = disappointment. This year Nintendo are planning well in advance, 5 months in advance. They have told us what's going to be there. There are no assumptions. That's the difference. You're underselling the impact of the Revolution controller announcement. It took the entire industry by surprise and knocked them for six. It even made it onto Sky and BBC news in the UK.
  17. E3 is first and foremost a press event. The whole point is to inform the gaming and general press. While hardcore gamers are interested in the event itself it's the information that filters out through the press that matters and it's this that will get the message to casual gamers. The company that shouts the most will get the most press coverage and in 2006 it will clearly be Nintendo. Also, to discuss getting info to casual gamers, lets take Nintendogs as an example. The majority of hardcore gamers didn't think this would succeed - well, it has! And not because screen shots were revealed a year beforehand. It succeeded because it appeals to non-gamers and was well advertised AFTER IT WAS RELEASED. The most important marketing is done at launch or after a release when the casual gamer - who isn't excited by these things and doesn't anticipate the release of a game in advance - can see it and play it for themselves. And once again - E3 is at the start of May - Revolution won't be out before July at the very earliest giving at least 2 months for people to find out about the games. Remember they already know about the console!
  18. That's not going to happen this time though is it? By keeping quiet until E3 Nintendo are going to steal the show with ease. What are Sony and Microsoft going to do? Show more games, have them playable. Whoopdeedo. Yes, exciting seeing more of the games. But how much more exciting to have an entire system's previously unseen functionality up and running for the first time with REAL games using an outstanding new control method. This is one of the best moves Nintendo has made since unveiling the controller at Tokyo Games Show. It's going to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together in one spectacular way. Games are already heavy into development for Revolution, by May they are going to be phenomenal and the new control method will be given the chance to prove itself. If you want evidence that this strategy works, you must have missed the Revolution Controller unveiling. Speculation built to a boiling point and on unveilling the controller was featured on the front page of nearly every piece of every related website and magazine. XBox 360 just didn't garner that kind of attention because they let info trickle out until people knew all there was to know. I hate this perspective, it's so misguided. People don't make up their minds months and months before buying a product, they certainly don't decide on the stats. Consumers can change their mind at any point right up to the point of purchase - in fact, point of purchase is where most decisions are made. By announcing at the start of May they're still going to have months before release anyway.
  19. Just seen a Mario Strikers advert on Channel 4 during T4. Also seen Nintendogs adverts during prime time on Channel 4, ITV 1 and digital channels. Not to mention the Mario Kart DS taxi promo being plastered on the front page of every Metro newspaper across London. They're really going for it this Christmas! Any other TV or print ads spotted?
  20. I imported it. It's a really good game.. .for 6 months ago. I don't think I could recommend it in light of all the games that have been released and are being released post Kirby US release.
  21. I hate these mock ups, don't know why. I just wish they'd wait until Nintendo unveiled the real thing. It's starting to worry me how many extras Revolution will have with the controller, analogue attachment, motion sensor bar and controller chargers. I'm guessing the chargers will simply be wires that plug into the controller. It would also be annoying to have to unplug the analogue attachment everytime the controller needs charging.
  22. I'm sorry, you can doubt Nintendo but that article is just plain stupid. It completely washes over the revolutionary aspect of Revolution! "Instead of a marvellous leap forward in technology and step towards the true future of gaming, we loyal Nintendo fans get a remote control and grey banana." Er, no, we get a marvellous leap forward in technology in the form of the 3D motion sensing and on screen interaction. No point writing anymore, that article is really badly thought out and the writers response will be "that's my opinion". Opinion needs to be based on some logic. Anyone that thinks the Revolution looks bad immediately gets put into the Dunce category in MY opinion.
  23. It's pretty clear that Metroid 3 is being primed as one of THE killer launch titles. It can't really fail. They have the engine running, they just need to improve graphical detail, change the settings and make the bigger, more interactive and just better, implement lots of uses of the new controller. Add new gameplay elements like the spaceship and interplanetary exploration and hell, you've got one of the best 1st person shooter / adventures ever. Plus, despite what people say about Rev graphics it's going to look AMAZING. 3 x more poweful than Metroid 2? That's unbelievable.
  24. The only multiplayer Metroid should have is one that sees players compete in terms of exploration and tasks. Shooting each other doesn't work in the Metroid universe. I think MP3 will take the series further than ever. MP2 was ok, but it felt like a rejig of the first game. The next game will feel totally fresh and hopefully have completely new, improved graphics and gameplay elements. Don't forget the Rev controller allows for grappling beam to literally be thrown and tugged. Switches, rocks and buttons can be pushed separately. There's lots they can add easily. Stroking, touching, smashing, poking.
  25. The mock-ups are annoying. They detract from the amazingness of the controller itself.
