  1. Whatever happens, it's going to be a fun ride! It's almost getting more fun to see what happens with the consoles than play them! I know I spend more time watching the PSP vs DS war of stats than I do playing my DS. Although DS is my most played console recently, it's so easy to just pick up and play. Love it.
  2. Some good points. Although if Nintendo deliver good games (which they will otherwise they wouldn't be taking this huge step) then Microsoft and Sony could diss all they want and it would make no difference. I think already it has universely been decided that this is a good idea. The press has been all over it praising it. And if that continues Sony would have no choice but to copy, especially if it turns out to be as good as the ideas suggest. I leave Microsoft out because I see XBox 360 as the most pointless console ever. Some great games on there, but PS3 will be better in only 6 months while Revolution has the new control method for genuinely new expereiences. The main point is that Nintendo cannot be late. They need to launch soon, instead of late next year otherwise it gives Sony and Microsoft time to copy and better the controller losing Nintendo their advantage.
  3. I've been playing games for 15 years. I have had enough of the standard ways of playing. I am totally with Phillthy and Nintendo, I want something new. It will be nice to play games with the old way of playing, but only as a secondary option. Much like being able to play Gameboy games on the DS (incidentally I haven't played 1 GBA game on DS, only DS games...). I am betting that once playing with this controller it will be unlikely I'll really want to go back for extended playing sessions anyway. Since the move to 3D I find it hard to enjoy 2D gameplay. It's too restricting. As for people's argument that the mainstream want ports in the old style. I sincerely doubt that the mainstream will be able to avoid the appeal of online virtual reality in your living room for around £200.
  4. Totally agree Phillphy. I'm 110% behind the Revolution controller. I didn't want convention, I wanted something Sony and Microsoft couldn't offer while still appealing to the mass market and Nintendo have more than delivered. You're right though it was a double-whammy of WOAH!! that's shocking, and WOAH!! that's a bloody amazing idea.
  5. I'm not saying that my opinion is the be all and end all at all. I just don't see why people would want more of the same button mashing games when there are plenty out already. If people want that, download an old game. Being able to block and attack with realism in fighting games would be incredible. And that's not necessarily how it will even be used. Movement could still be done by the analogue stick with the controller used for jumping, or switching between weapons, grabbing items in a 3D arena.
  6. But yes, I surely can describe Resident Evil 5 on Revolution. The analogue add on could be used to walk around, the controller used to look and shoot. No more fiddling with the analogue, the controller allows for complete realism in movement. Now you can aim and shoot while running for your life. Not like pseudo Halo type strafing, but full on realism. Hold down A and you switch to holding your dagger. In a tight spot you no longer stab randomly. Now you can hack, slash and stab with precision. Punch to the side of the head, slit a Zombie's throat (ratings people will have a field day). A multi legged end of level monster? Climb up the leg, find the weak spot and stab! You got him. A swarm of vampire bats? No more clunky analogue control as you attempt to hit as many as possible. Now you can aim with speed. The controller increases the ability to deal with large numbers of fast moving enemies. Need to get through a window? Punch the glass to smash it. Knock on a door. Hug a companion to show compassion, punch to show anger. Need to leave someone a note? Flip open a notepad on a desk, grab the pen next to it and write the note. You're trapped in a kitchen with only one door, the biggest mutha of a monster is rampaging toward you. You grab and slam the door, but that won't stop it. Turn, fling a table at the door as a baracade, that will hold him back for a few more seconds. There are knives hanging on the wall, you could grab and fling these but they'd only cause scratches. There's a cooker. You can turn the switches to let the gas poor out. A cupboard, you run in just as the monster burst through flinging planks of wood everywhere. You knock one out of the way before it knocks you out. To right, a lighter on a shelf, grab, flick with your hand and the lid flips open. Press A to light. Toss it into the air at the monster seconds before it gets to you. The air erupts in flames. You grab the door and slam it shut milliseconds before you're engulfed too. BANG, the monster's not dead! It's tough and trying to get in! You grab the handle and pull back firmly to keep the door shut. After a while the door stops banging, the monster has been overcome by the inferno finally and the flames have died down after the explosion. You push the door open, grab your gun and run down the corridor as you reach to your side to grab your machine gun, lift it and shoot it in face of lowlife Zombie. To hell with PS3 and 360! Resident Evil 5 will be rubbish if it doesn't make use of all of this. Pretty much anything you can do in real life you can do in the game. Like someone mentioned, this wouldn't need extreme arm movements. Just small suggestions. It would be good to change the sensitivity to increase or reduce the swing. That way you could choose how much to exert. The fact the lead is quite short to the analogue add on suggest movements won't need to be huge.

  9. There would just be one shell for ports that don't use the unique functions of rev, Gamecube, N64 and SNES. More excitingly are any new controllers that they may make. Yes but the old games are secondary to the revolutionary new games. I think they should release the add on alongside the launch of the console but not packed in with it. To do so would cheapen the point of the new controller - to simplify. By chucking all of these add ons in with the pack will only confuse people.
  10. All the games sites that went hands on said the simple demos were incredibly accurate in tracking. From big movements to tiny precise movements. I wouldn't worry about it, they wouldn't put this out if it wasn't accurate as it would be crap to play on.

Or, more accurately, they've even outdone themselves I'm very glad because Nintendo are the only company in the world that I like, that I think deserve the money they charge for their products. Absolutely right, this goes without saying. Nintendo clearly know what they're doing just by looking at the demos they knocked together, but what about 3rd parties? Well, if you were a developer, which controller would you rather work with? It could easily be incorporated into Resident Evil 5 and 1st person shooters as proved by the Metroid 3 demo at TGS. Nintendo have stated Revolution is easy to develop for because it works on a more powerful Gamecube set up.
  12. This is the first time that motion sensor has been made available to anyone. Anyone that wants to use it now can. Previously these systems cost hundreds of thousands, millions. Nintendo are bringing this to you for a couple of hundred. It will be like virtual reality on your TV screen, but more advanced because you will control every movement. You will literally be able to move around a virtual world. This is simply incredible. It allows for total immersion into all games. It reduces the need for so many buttons by making things simpler and by making games more lifelike. Anyone can use it on first glance. There are no instructions to learn as you just move your arm to do what you want to do on screen. It allows for deep complexity aswell for people willing to spend more time on games (i.e. the hardcore gamer). Imagine in a 1st person shooter like Halo being able to press right on the D-pad to switch to your hand rather than gun. By moving your arm you move your arm on screen. You could pick up objects and move them around your level, by moving around yourself! You could pick up parts of a machine and piece them together in the virtual world. You could literally and easily piece together a motorbike, picking up and connecting components, fix it, wire it, fill it with petrol and then ride off on it using the stick as the handle bar. In a secret agent style game you could be hiding in a party drinking a drink and then have to make a runner as someone discovers you. Rather than pointing roughly in the direction of someone and pressing a button to throw your glass to stall someone, you could literally chuck it at their face, reach down, grab your gun and shoot. Tombraider, run around using the analogue addon, turn look and shoot with your right hand. Resident Evil 5 will control so much better on Revolution than with the limited 360 and PS3 analogue control. Dance games will be changed forever. Forget moving your feet by bashing buttons on the floor. By holding two controllers people can do moves with their arms. karaoke, add on a microphone attachement to the bottom. You've got a motion sensing diva microphone that knows how much your putting into your performance by how much you're strutting about. When Nintendo named their console revolution, they weren't kidding. It truly deserves its name. Not just in terms of the gaming industry but in every industry. Noone has made such technology so available before. Nintendo are ahead of every other electronics company. Can anyone think of technology for any device that allows for such complexity, simplicity and interactivity? Mobile phones, tvs, toasters, they all do things internally. Nintendo has brought us something entirely new that in Minority Report was a thing of fiction. Why on earth would anyone want to play a 1st person shooter, or a 3rd person adventure, or a sports game on a standard controller when they can literally hit things on screen with their hands. They can look and move around by moving around outside of the screen. Already I can see how it will be used in so many games. I just hope they get it out quickly, before Sony or Microsoft get their copies out.
  13. I agree that non-hardcore gamers will want this, but come on, I'm a 'hardcore gamer' and I have never wanted something so much. This opens up one of my biggest pasttimes in unlimited ways. Are you not all hardcore gamers? The fact that you're on here discussing the latest gaming revelation means you are. Do you not want this?! Gimme gimme.
  14. Who cares what one person says? Even a fool and his monkey can see that people will want to play this. I bet the majority of people know about Dance Machine games, even non-gamers. The same will happen with Revolution because everyone can understand how it works. You move your arm, you move something on screen.
  15. I hope Nintendo DON'T include this with the console - and they won't. This is for playing old games, old traditional games. Which is great, it really is. But new games shouldn't use this at all. There isn't anything that can't be done with the stick and analogue add on combo. And it is so amazing I don't see why anyone would want to go back.
  16. Of course Nintendo didn't do motion sensor previously. Have you never seen a making of Lord of the Rings programme? How do you think they created Gollum? What's incredible is that this software is being made available to the general public and not just Hollywood elite. It's amazing.
  17. I think we'll find when it is released that this console will appeal to a hell of a lot of people. Who wouldn't want to control movements on screen with their OWN movements. Nintendo couldn't have got it more spot on. This is simply incredible and I'm still reeling with excitement.
  18. I disagree personally. It depends on the games. If Revolution has cool games it will sell to the chav market. I mean come on, a chav is gonna love pummeling an opponent in a fighting game with a virtual sword if the blood is gushing everywhere.
  19. Proper forcefeedback would wipe out the batteries in minutes. Moving parts always eat batteries faster (see PSP)
  20. Well you just have to look to the response to the XBox conference - what conference you might ask? XBox 360 seems pointless. If you want a console like that wait for the PS3 which will no doubt be more powerful, better and with far more support. If you want the future, you can get Revolution. There's simply no contest for me. The old controllers are just that, old to me. I don't want to play with them now we have THIS.
  21. The controller is perfect for nearly every situation I can think of. It feels like it has broken boundaries, like control has burst out of the old controllers. The old controllers will never feel as good again. 1st person shooters are going to be awesome on Revolution. I always dreamt of a lightgun type controller that allows you to control where you look too. This is it. This is perfect.
  22. I expect it will stretch as far as a good view of the TV. I mean, you can only go so far around the TV before you can't see anything anyway. The view is only about 120 degrees max. No reason why the sensors won't work over this area.
  23. I can't think of a single incidence where it won't work. So I don't know why all these people are going "I want to play Zelda the old way" - this is the future, and it's better. It allows more freedom and interactivity. Why would you want to play on a NES controller when Gamecube is out? It's the same thing.
  24. I expect they are beavering away at their own versions at this very minute. If Revolution takes off, they'll have to copy to compete. Hopefully Nintendo will get this out sooner than expected to prevent them having a big run up to copy, and get games out at the same time as the Rev launch
  25. What force feedback? That was a rumour and is incredibly unlikely. Forcefeedback would involve a lot of electricity and couldn't run on battery. They're probably waiting for the games to be near completion with the controller only just being finalised it seems unlikely they'll have any games that are far along in development.
