  1. To be honest, I'd actually like to play a train sim . I guess I'm a bit weird (well, I know I'm weird). I'd really like a European localized train sim. I really love travelling by train, that's why I'm interested. The fact here are videos of train travels (viewed from the ehh "cockpit"), shows there's even a market for it here, how niche it may be. Those aren't even interactive.
  2. I think it's been the best controler so far. I really hate the Cube controller. Overall I really like the design of the N64 controller, even though de left handle is rare used, and not used at all in the games I have. I do agree the analogue stick on the Cube controller is much better.. It's more fluid, and I reckon far more resilient.. I recently played OoT and PD again, and the stick was all worn out. After a bit of cleaning, it was somewhat ok.. Also the Dpad is better (but that doesn't make it great), but that one's rarely used on both controllers, at least as an active navigation button. But the Z, the L & R, are far better on the N64 controller. Those are triggers, they're faster and much more responsive. I'm glad the analogue function is gone, it really messed up controls in the games where it's used.. Starfox 64 and Starfox Assault is a good comparison. Personally I prefer the C-buttons over the C-stick. For navigation in FPS games, but also as buttons. The C-stick can't really be used effectively as extra buttons, it's good for some quick selection, like the visors in Metroid. I guess it's better when it's used for actual camera control, but personnaly I don't care much about more camera control, I never had many issues with that in N64 games. This is all in relation to 3D games by the way.. When it comes to 2D games, I like the NES and GBA Micro Dpads the best. The NES controller may not be the most ergonomical controller, I really like the response.. Anyway, the Wiimote is on its way, and I'm looking forward to it! And on a final sidenote, I'm also very curious how the retro controller compares to the Cube controller, but I have a feeling I'll like it.
  3. I've just read it. Sounds cool! I wonder if it's random, or if they'll consider certain things.. It's fun to get picked for such an event, I was lucky to get picked for the GameCube pre-launch party, back in the days :rolleyes. I'm sure back then it had to do with me being a member of the official Dutch Nintendo club untill it was cancelled. I can't rely on that though . Anyway, I got the invitation through old-fashioned mail, so make sure not only your e-mail address is correct, but also your actual address!
  4. It depends, the mini-boss is actually different for each alignment. Although the general strategy remains the same. But I found Ulyoth to be the easiest. Maybe because it was the last one I defeated, but his spells don't actually hurt you (but deplete your magic meter). In the 3rd phase, each one of them tries to stomp you, but if I remember correctly some are more frantic than others (well, maybe I just got used to the rhythm). One level 7 spell will kill the greater guardian (the mini-boss) immediately, and if you time it right, you do have the time to power up to this level. This is the case for all three of them. Just circle around it the first round and take note how many times they attack before the pause. Than just count, and immediately start your spell after the last one. Don't pay much attention to the zombies, kill them with the same attack, and avoid them the rest of the time.
  5. Again with the water temple? I really don't understand why people here complain so much about it. I love the temple, eventhough it's not my favourite (but that's because all the temples are great). I thought I didn't complete it 100 %, like I don't complete many games, but I happened to play this again recently, and I did have everything (unlike MM, where I'm missing some heartpieces, and I'm not even bothered with WW's statues). I booted this one up, because I wanted a Goron reference (I was drawing a Goron face for Blanca in Animal Crossing ). Like said above, finding all Skulltulas will earn you unlimited rupees, but by that time, you really don't need those anymore. In fact you have to work hard to spend your money.. I remember being very disappointed with this "reward" . Also, like said above, the spirit temple (which may be my favourite by the way, allthough I like the forest temple a lot too) theoretically comes before the shadow temple, but the first time I also did the latter first because of the Kakariko fire.. In later playthroughs, I consciously avoided Kakariko during that time . One of the reasons I love this temple (there are many), is that you fight 3 Iron Knuckles. They are my favourite Zelda enemy, and I really missed them in WW and The Minish Cap. I hope they'll return in TP! Even though I did collect everything, there are sure to be details I've missed. Little secrets like the Mario & co pictures, and the scarecrow song during the credits, or the stupid butterfly fairy trick whick I rarely get to work . But even more trivial things like all the objects you can shoot for rupees, like the overhanging sign in front of the Gerudo's hideout, or the torches at Hyrule castle (if I remember correctly). I don't think I'll play throught it again in anticipation of TP though.. Like I said, there's still some stuff for me to do in MM.
  6. I finally got this from the stars catalogue few days ago (how long has it been? :P), and I've completed the main quest today. First my though about not so much the game itself, but FPS controll on the Cube: I've always thought this controller wasn't suited for this, but after playing this game, which is my first real experience with FPS controls on the Cube, I can conclude it wasn't that bad. I still prefer the N64 controller though. After the configuration, set up to resemble the N64 / Turok style as much as possible, the game was certainly playable. I still rather have 4 C buttons as opposed to a C stick (I mean, a keyboard has just 4 arrow keys doesn't it?) but the main problem is the stupid analogue trigger. The Z trigger was perfect, the R (& L) triggers are just too slow and akward. The Z trigger really could have helped me out with the final boss. But I managed. About the game: Now I've played this game I can tell what its flaws are. In general its pretty ok, I liked it in general, but certain aspects.. Most people have a problem with the FPS portions of this game, not? I really didn't after playing for a while.. GoldenEye, it is not. But after playing this game, you realize this isn't really a FPS game (with some possession action), like Metroid, it's more an (possession) adventure, with some shooting elements. The game reminded me also of Mission Impossible sometimes. Some nice puzzles, but very simple action / shooting sequences. It's ok for this game. What are the problems? Well, it becomes apparent that this game is rushed, it isn't really finished, there are glitches and and things that are just sloppy. Several examples: - Things that react to hosts but not to ghosts. In the subway, some creatures (they're called imps I believe) spawn at some spots. Even if you fly by as a ghost. They don't react to you as a ghost, so the just stand idle, while several creatures spawn at the same spot. The result is a column of imps. - Something similar, a soldier who is levitating when he spawns. He still be levitating when you fly by as a ghost.. - Something I used to great advantage in battles.. The spec ops. They don't seem to realize that they can't go through obstacles when possessing a host (= me). - Framerate issues in the old mansion areas. Too bad, those are really nice areas, But the light effects are a little bit too much it seems. - You can't set the sensitivity in single player. I thought that may be intentional, and forgot about it, but then I noticed you could change the sensitivity in multi player.. - The story.. It's lacking. There's so much backstory that I'd like to know, but the game tells you very little. Too bad, because I really liked the concept of the story.. It's really too bad of these stupid things, the game could have been great. What's left is pure gameplay, and I did really enjoy the possesion stuff. Flying by as a ghost is really cool, with the time slowing down. Scouting ahead, and blowing crates up to save you some trouble as a host, and seeing those guys fly in slowmotion.. That's fun. Scaring people is fun. Even the simple action sequences have some nice variations on them. I love when possesion gets involved in the shooting sequences. The Bryson escape sequence (on the motorcycle) looks like a simple action sequence, but it has some nice touches with the possesion ability. also too bad the game is too short. It could have done with more levels for some more puzzles and more story. Anyway, I got this for free, so I'm not disappointed . I hope it gets a sequel one day, which hopefully gets more attention and won't be rushed.
  7. I didn't know there was a SNES version, but we're talking about CD-i here. The SNES game looks like a platformer. The CD-i game, wasn't really a game though, more an interactive cartoon. "gameplay" was very limited. And not really the thing you'd see on the SNES (certainly not with those graphics). So if you're expecting a game, then yeah, you'll be very disappointed. You could enjoy it for the animation I guess. Hotel Mario.. I really don't know what the objective was anymore. The levels were 1 screen, you had to open doors, I believe you collected coins, but don't know any more than that. It was more a puzzle game I think.. There's no platform action.
  8. It was confirmed that you can use the Wi-fi adapter right? However, I think I'll still buy one of these. I dunno if cables are faster, but I'm sure they're more reliable. And it's more convenient for me. There's an old general computer here, and my brother has a new computer. To get my DS online, I have to bother him with the wi-fi adapter on his computer. I'm not going to play in his room, so there will always be walls in the way. Usually not much of a problem, but I get the occasional lag. Getting a cable from my room to the router is much easier, I don't have to bother anyone, and I can play online at night. So I'll definately pick one up. I'm not bothering with a wireless network just yet, it'll have to wait untill I have a new computer. Since I don't have any money, and am not satisfied with a computer and software that doesn't cost thousands and thousand of Euros, this won't be for quite a while. This adapter is pefect in the mean time.
  9. I never had one myself, but I had a friend who had one. My experience with it is limited though. I've played some Hotel Mario and Space Ace (that's the interactive sci-fi cartoon right?). I don't really think of it as a console.. Sure, games were a big part of it, but can't remember it being really marketed as a console at the time. In retro-spective I can conclude I didn't really miss out on anything (I really wanted one back then), I guess it has some collectors value now though.
  10. Ah ok, that makes sense. I made an assumption they meant a VC download or something, it was right after the VC games comment after all . I guess that's better. Now I really don't see them releasing it online-only (on VC) in the US, but certainly not the EU, but a limited release where you can only buy it online (or in the case of EU, by calling customers support <sigh>) is definately possible. Well, if I can get one (on disc) either way, I'll be happy..
  11. I like the Nintendo branded SD card. I like the 5000 point card with the retro controller. I don't get why and how Japan is getting Twilight Princess only online? How the hell will you play it on your GameCube? I guess this is for hardcore Zelda fans and Wii owners who simply prefer the Cube version or want them both. Well, as long we get it on discs over here.
  12. I must say, it's a bit sloppy, I hope that's fixed for the retail versions.. But either way, I don't foresee any personal problems with it. I'm practically a vampire myself. I'm more active at night than during the day, I like to play games and watch movies with no light at all (even the LCD screen display of my DVD player annoys me) and even during the day, some times I can't be arsed to open up the blinds. Light rarely finds its way into my room .
  13. Well, I actually think the new controlls will be fun, maybe even better.. But it's a principle thing for me. It was meant as a Cube game, so I want to play it on my Cube. I want to buy and play both versions, and I will be slightly pissed if the cancel the Cube version (allthough admitted, I'll quickly forgive them when I play the Wii version). For the same reason I'm not that enthousiastic about Paper Mario anymore. Which is weird, because it will be the same game (more or less?). But it's just that I still want Cube games, and allthough Paper Mario along Zelda en Baten Kaitos looks great, but when I'm buying Wii games, I'll have other priorities..
  14. Argh. I'm one of those sad people who won't buy a Wii at launch, because I don't think I'll have the money, but also because I'd like a black console. I was looking forward to playing the Cube (authentic lefty ) version this Christmas.. They're taking this away from us! Grr. But I'm optimistic, I'll look at this way. If they're willing to still release Cube games in February, 3 months after the Wii launch, perhaps there's still a chance we'll get Baten Kaitos II. Anyway, let's wait for the official word first.
  15. Magical Girl Bizarre Jilly? Are those pink t-shirts "bizarre Jilly" merchandise? I want those pink t-shirts!! I downloaded the trailer just now on IGN, after reading some of the posts in this topic.. It looks very cool and stylish! Now I can't wait for it to come out, I'm very curious how it will play. I haven't played Killer 7, but I'd like to get it when I have the money.
  16. Hmm, the Varia suit looks very cool. Gravity suit too, it would be a very cool collector's item, but when it comesw down to aestethics, I'd prefer the Varia suit . Too bad I don't have the money. And yes, of course we want a zero suit Samus! Unless it looks as crap as Feirce Deity Link, but I can't imagine that, with Samus being all tight and curvy .
  17. Personally I'm hoping for a new bundle that contains the same stuff as the current bundle, only with either Metroid Prime 3 or Super Mario Galaxy in stead of Wii Sports. And a black console obviously . I also hope they include either a wiimote/retro controller combo or just the retro controller with Super Smash Brothers. I hope it will be like a mini re-launch, as I'm waiting for (and really looking forward to) the black console.
  18. Language and video system. But this is also the case with the Cube and Wii discs.. The thing is, in concrete form, US imports for example, could hurt European sales. Games were released later in US and EU, to localize them. This would take time and money, manuals also had to be translated etc. Now, in digital form, it just a small effort to make multiple versions availale (all the translations and localization already has been done), and indeed that's what they'll do, so why just not make them available to every region? What good will it do to not make Japan only releases available to the US and EU? They can make even more money because there are plenty people who will want to play Japanese versions, even if they don't understand Japanese.
  19. I'd like to add to my other post, that, allthough I don't mind much if it wasn't region free, I do think VC and online content should be region free. I think it's ridiculous to have specific VC games for each region.. If it means I won't get to play Sin & Punishment (for example), I might just as well not bother with VC at all, which will mean I won't but any retro controllers. That would be a bad decision.
  20. Like I've said in [this topic], I've just "ordered" this from the (Dutch) stars catalogue. I'm not really looking forward to the FPS bits, but I can't wait to play this game for the adventure/puzzle bits. Anyway, it's free, so it can't be that disappointing . I would like to know though, is this game a bit flexible in the way you play? For example, can you simply possess your way through FPS bits? In other words, don't do any of the shooting yourself, but let the AI do it for you, and then just possess your next victim? Or is it not the way this game works? Anyway, I think the GameCube controller in itself is flawed for FPS games, but this will be my first more or less "real" FPS experience on the cube, so I'll find out for myself.
  21. I'd like to add to my above post, now with the launch details known.. That I'm strongly considering waiting fot a black console. But, assuming I can hold out for the black console, I still wouldn't want to simply ignore the launchday, so maybe I'll buy a "launch-celebration-but holding-out-for-black" set . Some lauchgames (Zelda, Red Steel), wiimote/nunchuck/retro combo, and an SD card (from Nintendo?). I did something similar with the DS Lite, I bought Metroid Prime and Animal Crossing and the Wi-Fi adapter, but the black DS wasn't available.. But then the wait was just a few days .
  22. Personally I think someone from NOA has more credibility than someone from NOE.. But still, I'd like this cleared up. Allthough, to be honest, I wouldn't be very upset if it wasn't region-free, you'd think we're all used to it by now :P, and I don't see me importing that many titles. Still, I hope it's still in, bacause ultimately, it has to go. But I can live with another generation of region-encoded games.
  23. There was a TV show? Anyway, yeah, the Wii seems perfect for point & click adventures . Sam & Max look like they'd fit in with the Wii style.. I'd love to play and own the original, but this would be great too.
  24. I rarely check the (Dutch) Stars catalogue, so it's been a while I saw actual items (no, not the Conan bit). The last time I saw the Zelda bonus disc. I don't know why I didn't get that one, unless I didn't have enough stars, because I'd like to play Masterquest (allthough, with the Cube controller.. Maybe that was the reason.).. Anyway, in the Dutch catalogue at least they had Megaman Battle Network 5, Geist, and Polarium Advance to offer. I see they're going fast, so I "ordered" Geist. I know the FPS action disappoints, but I'm still interested in the adventure/puzzle bit. Funny timing, with all the Wii news, you'd think this would easily slip under the radar, but then again, like I said, they are going pretty fast..
  25. [On-Topic] .. I'm not sure. It depends on 2 things. Me having money by (hopefully) end November - begin December, and a black console available at launch here. I don't have a job at the moment, I hope I have one next week, I reckon the money won't be a problem by that time.. But I do really like a black console. I have a feeling they won't be available in Europe, just like in the US. Not that I don't like white, but I usually buy black or metallic hardware (and accesories). But on the other hand, I do like to support Nintendo right from the beginning, and being impulsive, I might just go with a white console if that's the only one available. But waiting for a black console allows me to save up more money, and I still have plenty of catching up to do with my GameCube, GBA en DS. Plus, the game I was most looking forward too, Metroid, has been delayed unfortunately. If I buy one at launch Zelda en Red Steel are must buys, and a extra wiimote/nunchuck combo (buying 3 extra is a bit expensive in 1 go..) and maybe 1 or 2 retro attachments. But there are plenty other games that interest me, but I don't know how much money I will have.
