Its considered assault here as well.

I've been playing through New Vegas for my second (I say that, but I never finished it the first time) time and I'm enjoying it a lot more on the PC. I've got to say, the Project Nevada mod is excellent. I can't wait to see what Bethesda can do with the Skyrim engine in Fallout 4 a few years down the road.

I'm just trying to finish up a paper for uni on the problems associated with censoring the news media. Its taking forever to find scholarly articles to reference in my counter thesis though. Apparently the academic community is very anti-censorship.

According to the BBC, the police have now announced that they're going to be publishing the pictures of the rioters online to get other people to identify them.
-
He was just making a joke at your expense. I doubt he cares if you see it or not.
-
No, it really isn't. That was just an excuse people used to get the riots started.

People of any race can be chavs. It has more to do with socioeconomic conditions than race. Ever heard of white-trash?

Consider two relatively recent examples, the G20 Summit in Toronto, and the Vancouver Riots. In Toronto, the police weren't using discretion at all. The riots were relatively short and contained in one area, while the police were everywhere else beating bystanders and peaceful protesters. There was even one incident where a disabled man's prosthetic leg was stolen by police, while other police officers dragged him through the streets. Many people were arrested and denied their legal rights simply for wearing black. They also weren't given any chance to get out, as the police beat them when they tried to get out of the area. Regarding the Vancouver riot, my Cousin (as I mentioned earlier in the thread, she lives in Vancouver and was only a couple blocks away at the time) and the people she was with nearly got trampled when the police lines broke and a bunch of rioters came in their direction. Had the police managed to get back into formation after the rioters had reached them, they would likely have been trapped in the crowd. Its not simply a case of asking the innocents to move out of the way, or saying that they shouldn't have been there in the first place. The point is that they ARE there and the police need to take precautions to make sure only the criminals are targeted. I agree that the police should be as harsh as they need to be (short of using live fire, unless the crowds get their hands on some guns), but they need to use discretion regardless of what they do.
-
This. Its absolutely vital that the methods used to control the crowds aren't blanket enough that innocents get caught up in it. Just look at what happened at the G20 summit in Toronto where the police were basically beating everyone in their path just for the sake of it.

I expect NASA's funding will be one of the first things to go when the Americans realize that they actually have to cut spending to decrease their deficit. So I wouldn't really count on it.
-
Do you really expect that much from people who go around rioting?

I was talking to my cousin (who lives in Vancouver and was actually down the street from the riots that happened there) the other day. According to her, a ton of the people who were rioting had actually come to riot, not to watch the game. They were well prepared, wearing T-Shirts saying that they were "only there to riot" under their other clothes, and the truck that was set on fire was apparently brought into the area for the sole purpose of setting it on fire to get everybody in the mood. So really, it had nothing to do with the hockey game. There are certainly legitimate reasons to riot (although never to destroy private property or injure anyone). The sort of people who like to riot however seem to not even be aware of those particular issues and just do it for the sake of it. I don't think we really have enough information about this particular incident (Yesterday's riot) to say for certain what happened, but it was probably either a similar situation, or possibly a bunch of degenerates who immediately came to the conclusion that because a cop had shot someone the cop must have been in the wrong and that they needed to avenge their fellow degenerate. The BBC article on the riots seemed to suggest that racial tensions between a certain group of residents in the area and the police had something to do with the whole thing. In the US riots have been known to start up for that reason, so I suppose it would be a possibility in the UK as well.

I think key combinations can be changed using defaults anyway (for those who aren't afraid of a little CLI). So if you really wanted to you could change the fully closing to Command + Q.

Its not just the weather. Lion seems to do spotlight indexing way more frequently than any other version of OS X, which kills your speed, and, in my case at least, brings the temperature up to dangerously high levels (95 C was the highest I've seen before the fail safe kicked in). I also seem to be having more kernel panics than I have with any other OS.
-
I use MSE as well. Its not as fully featured as something like Avast (which I installed on my grandparents computer for some of the remote access capabilities it has), but it works fine and you barely notice it.
-
I can't say I'm that impressed. Spotlight seems to want to index every single time I do something CPU intensive, which tends to cause my computer to overheat. Time machine also seems to take up a lot more resources. None of the new features seem to be worth the loss of some of the old ones. Particularly the end of executing PPC code is annoying at times. Its not enough to downgrade, but the OS needs work.

I seem to remember flashkit being one of the better places for learning Actionscript (there community is pretty good for specific issues as well). Its been a few years since I've done anything with Actionscript though, so that may have changed. If you end up buying a book at any point, you should be cautious of which platform the book is designed for. Some books are more focused on Flex, whereas others are focused on Flash. As long as your familiar with the basics of programming (Branching, loops, variables, etc.) it should be relatively easy to get started. The Syntax is based around the C syntax (which is used by C, C++, C#, Java, etc), so if you have any experience with a language that uses it, you already have a head start.
-
Unless flash is absolutely necessary you're better off avoiding it altogether. How much programming experience do you have?

I've never watched Big Brother. Is it basically like Josh Harris' "Quiet" project, but televised and with all the interesting parts removed?

'Hacking' means trying to solve something that isn't necessarily a problem, whereas the word for breaking into a computer system is 'Cracking'. For further reading see: http://stallman.org/articles/on-hacking.html When talking about computer hardware, the word 'Memory' refers to RAM, whereas something that can hold data unpowered is considered storage. There's also a Sony proprietary flash memory card format called a 'Memory Stick', so it just isn't the right word for any sort of USB flash media.
-
'Hacker'/'Hack' is annoying when its used the wrong way (nine times out of ten the correct words are 'Cracker' and 'Crack'); 'Memory Stick' is annoying when used to describe a USB device. I doubt I'll need to explain "Could care less".

http://notch.tumblr.com/post/8208212863/the-psychology-of-the-reticle-and-the-feeling-of Also, I've been playing the Aether mod for a bit now. Its brilliant. Also, just because it looks 'nice' don't think its safe, there are tons of mobs (not the ones you're used to), and it can be nearly as dangerous as the nether if you're not careful. A word of advice though, don't start a new world just for the mod, as you actually need to go to the nether to get glowstone to make the portal to the aether, which means finding diamonds and obsidian as you probably already know. I would make a copy if you want to use your world with 1.8 though, as we don't really know how compatible the two will be yet.

Except target shooting and biathlon. Even then, there's nothing wrong with owning a gun for hunting or for your own defense if you're constantly put int situations where you might need to defend yourself.
