And you think in an extreme case like this the shooter wouldn't have been able to purchase the weapons off the black market?
-
Basically there was a conflict regarding a contract between Crytek and some other distributor and Valve's contract with EA. Valve booted Crysis 2 off Steam, and so EA decided to not release Battlefield 3 on Steam because of it. Its a bit of an inconvenience, but as long as I can buy it online and play it with relatively few restrictions I don't really care what the store is called.

I don't think being a psychopath would qualify him for what Wikipedia seems to translate to "Involuntary Commitment".
-
As near as I can make out this is a private event that has no association with EA or DICE. If you want to boycott the game because of it, I don't really care, but I don't understand your logic for arguing that this is a reason for not buying the game.

Isn't there some way the sentence can be can be renewed if he's declared insane? I take it Norway doesn't have consecutive sentences.

Fair enough, I've encountered people who actually believe that though.

You are joking right? The PowerBook G4s used the exact same design, aside from the fact that they had vents, and they looked fine. When your graphics card starts frying and your CPU keeps getting shut down by its own fail-safe, your priorities change a little bit. Not to mention a good designer should be able to incorporate necessary features into their design.
-
The spotlight indexing in Lion seems to be causing my CPU's fail-safe to cut in, even with my fans maxed out. Leave it to Apple to forget to put vents in a laptop case.
-
Its not a glitch. Apple seems to think that hiding which processes are running is a feature. I think people have found a way to fix this though, I just can't remember what it was off the top of my head. I'm downloading Lion now, although what I'm hearing about it initially isn't great, I'll still try it out I suppose. I'm considering buying an 11" MacBook air for uni, but I'm still not entirely convinced the portability features are worth the low price/performance ratio in my situation.

I find Blu-ray to be somewhat of a luxury at this point. I have a player and everything, its just not that convenient to go rent the disks. If I buy a movie, I'll buy the Blu-ray version, but If I just want to watch something quickly I tend to be too lazy to use anything other than Netflix. As amazing as it is to watch movies in 1080p, convenience usually trumps that.

There's been steady news about the Adventure Update coming recently. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features There have even been a few screenshots of dungeons, giant mushrooms, NPC villages (Unfortunately it looks like the buildings are made of stone, so we can only burn the roofs off), and new terrain features released via Notch and other Mojang employee's Google+ pages. The reddish coloured blocks are actually just the normal stone and the new stone bricks, torch light has an orange glow to it in 1.8's new lighting engine. Notch has also mentioned that he wants to add some of the features in "Better Than Wolves" into the vanilla game. Other than that, aside from the Adventure update we've still got Adventure Mode and the sky world thing that notch was hinting about to look forward to (assuming those aren't part of the adventure update).

Typical feminist, not indenting their code.

Actually there was a study not long ago that predicted religion will all but disappear in several countries in the not so distant future (although not in our lifetimes unfortunately). Its going to be quite some time before we can predict that sort of stuff anyway, so hopefully religion isn't going to be what gets in the way of that sort of thing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12811197

3 Months Of Nothing / Aimless / What To Do With Your Life
Emasher replied to chairdriver's topic in General Chit Chat
I started university this summer, so I haven't exactly been bored, but I know the feeling. I've had days where I just can't bring myself to do anything useful. The trick is to find something that you enjoy doing to the point where you get lost in it, writing and programming are good examples. -
I think I might just do that one of these days. I've got a bus pass for uni anyway, so its not that hard for me to get around.
-
I'm taking a course now, and in august I'll be working, but neither could really be considered full time commitments. When I'm home I tend to just play games and browse the internet, sometimes program if I'm feeling more ambitious. Lately I've felt that I should be out doing stuff though. The main problem with that is I have no idea what I should be out doing.

Mini desktop to be used as media center?
Emasher replied to Oxigen_Waste's topic in General Chit Chat
While that i3 can handle 1080p video, it likely won't be able to handle 3D or higher resolutions that well. The PSUs that you can get for Micro ATX/ITX cases (that one actually has one built into the case) tend to be terrible PSUs. Not only will it likely be the first part to go, but like any PSU it will loose its wattage over time, and eventually it may not be able to power the system anymore. I would say you probably have 5 years before you need to replace it. You might actually be better off building a decent new PC for your regular computer usage and just use your current one for media. -
Dreaming in Non-REM sleep is possible but rare: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-rapid_eye_movement_sleep

I don't blame you, it was an easy argument to make.

I first read about lucid dreams about a few years ago, but I've never really seriously tried to experience one. I think I might try this summer though. I'd love to experience one of those dreams where you are in full control and can do anything one day. On two occasions I've managed to realize I was dreaming, but I woke up moments after in both cases, so I wouldn't really count it.

Especially considering the fact that the game isn't technically out yet. Speaking of that, was the price of the final game ever announced? I bought it after the Beta came out so I'll have to re-buy it I guess.

You can take comfort in the fact that I live across the pond.
-
Surely at this point they've got it as bug free as the PS3 version was on day 1 though?

No, but your real name and town are, from there it shouldn't be too hard to find you in the telephone directories.
