Nah, Pokemon Ranger 3 makes this game completely redundant. I'll wait until that comes around. You've played 1 Ranger, you've pretty much played them all.

Pokemon Red, Blue & Yellow (3DS Virtual Console)
Glen-i replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Then you need to watch the anime. Blue is not Gary. Shut up, it totally matters! -
Wow, I can't believe he didn't notice that. Do you just blank out anything to do with PMD, @Serebii?
-
For the sake of context, @Hero\-of\-Time, what chapter are you on?
-
Far safer to default until you reach +3 BP and then go ham. Going Negative should only be used in case of emergencies. The great thing about Bravely Default and Second is experimenting with what combinations of jobs can do along with the skills you use. It's fun trying to figure out what works.
-
Probably the same reason why Tropical Freeze was so low and Woolly World is nowhere to be seen?
-
I finished the demo a week ago. It takes the title of best 3DS demo from, well, Bravely Default. Anyone who played Bravely Default could have told you that this game has an excellent Battle system. I plan on getting it, just not straight away, I only have the spare money for one game in the next couple of weeks and as much as I want Bravely Second, Super PMD takes way higher precedence!
-
Oh damn! I just realised that! That's terrible! Best Yoshi game since the SNES one and it's nowhere to be seen. That long wait for the American version must have soured them badly!
-
Seeing all this yearning for Wave Race and the like. has got me thinking. How well did Wave Race Blue Storm sell over here? Does anyone know? BTW, playing Waverace 64 again for the first time in almost 20 years has made me think that that game is better than I remember it.
-
Scratch my last post, that's an even better reply! Well played!
-
That's really tempting... If Super PMD wasn't coming out tomorrow, I would have jumped on that.
-
It's not as surprising to me. Towards the end, I was definitely feeling the fatigue. The bosses and cutscenes are great, but the stuff in between started to feel like a right drag. I totally agree that Minecraft over Tropical Freeze is mad though!

Oh snap!

You mean there's an opportunity for me to get paid for my ridiculous GBA Metroid memory?* Count me in! *"Ridiculous GBA Metroid memory" may be an attempt to psyche competition out... or not. You feeling lucky?

*Raises hand* Everybody Votes was great, I still miss it. It's one of the very few things I actually give Splatoon props for. It took Everybody Votes and made something out of it.

You know what? I get where you're coming from. I guess when you play a game affecting your view is a little unavoidable. (Geez, that sentence sounds terrible) I did mention on the previous page that Ocarina was revolutionary. But I think that judging a game by today's standards is a better way to go than judging games based on how much you liked it when it came out. Because that can lead to nostalgia blindness, and you can't deny that this is one of the many reasons games like Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 7, Pokemon Red/Blue and others are held up on such a high pedestal. (I said one of the many reasons, it's not the only one) I always aim to take my initial feelings from years ago out of the equation when I go back to play an old game. Because it's interesting to see whether I think it holds up or not. Whether it is truly "Timeless"

To the surprise of very little, I decided to follow up Metroid Prime with... Well... Yeah, that. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes originally came out in 2004 for the Gamecube and as you can guess, is the sequel to Metroid Prime. However, just like in my last entry, I played this as part of the Metroid Prime Trilogy collection, which came out on the Wii. Because of the similarities between this and Metroid Prime, I won't go into detail on stuff that I covered on the first game. Stuff like basic gameplay, how well a backstory is implemented, etc. Anyway, after Metroid Prime, Samus is sent to planet Aether after some Galactic Federation troops go missing. While landing, her ship is hit by a lightning bolt, rendering her ship unusable while it fixes itself. So Samus has to find out what happened to these guys, undoubtedly find many goodies to pimp her suit with and maybe blow up the planet for kicks. At the surface level, Prime 2 seems pretty much like Prime, but like any good sequel, there's a few things to jazz up the game a little. The main thing is Dark Aether, basically Aether's evil side that damages you just by being in it! (What is it with Nintendo games and "Dark" stuff?) When you're in "Aether that is not light" you can recover health by standing in safe zones that Crystals provide. It's not that much different, really. It just tends to restrict your movement when you're fighting stuff. It becomes more interesting when you encounter a boss that has no safe zones, turning some bouts into a timed affair, upping the intensity a bit. Speaking of bosses, this game has some great bosses! Prime 1 already had good bosses, but they step up their game in Prime 2. Early on, some of Samus' upgrades from the previous game are jacked. (Because of course they are) And some of the bosses actually use these against you. It's definitely fun to have your own weapons used against you. Which brings me to Boost Guardian... You'd think this guy was terrible at this game, but... This is an interesting scenario, ask anyone who has played the original Gamecube version what the hardest boss was. I guarantee they'll say Boost Guardian. It's that hard! Thankfully, the Wiimote aiming and spring ball technique in Trilogy make it a lot more manageable. (Forgot to mention this when I was talking about Prime, but there's also an easier difficulty mode added for the 2 gamecube games) Overall, Prime 2 is definitely the trickiest Metroid Prime game, so I wouldn't recommend it as your first Prime. If only I told myself that when it first came out, because Prime 2 was the first Metroid Prime game I actually played through. Typical, huh? The other major difference are the beams. In every Metroid game, beams never ran out of ammo, but not in Prime 2. The default Power Beam has infinite ammo, but this game has the Light Beam and the Dark Beam, and these do have ammo. So instead of the usual question of "What beam should I use?" You also have to ask yourself "Do I want to use up ammo on this?" It's actually quite impressive how much this changes the gameplay. That ammo is precious, but the beams are quite powerful if used right! Visually, the game is pretty much the same as Prime, except with more purple, thanks to Dark Aether. Although the new creature designs are a bit more memorable than Prime, so it's improving. Space Pirates still look trash though. However, this game has the ugliest Power Suit in Metroid history! Let's look at it! Hope you like seeing this for over half of the game!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Glen-i replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Not really, I got more than enough enjoyment from my WiiU to justify my purchase. I would, however, find it a little baffling and amusing that the WiiU would be the first home console to not have a new Zelda game. And that's precisely why I don't think it will ever be NX exclusive. -
Well, if he just clicked my username, he could have easily found out... I still maintain that when I first played a game has nothing to do with what I think of it.
-
Original release. N64 was the first console I owned. The game has aged a bit, Hyrule Field is just one big empty chore to walk around in, and the dungeons are pretty good, but not exceptional. I'll repeat what I said before, I still think it's great! Just not as good as the other 3D Zeldas. Ouch, that's harsh! What makes you think I never played the original? Well, to use your previous anedote, I first played Chrono Trigger on the Wii VC, and I think it's one of the greatest RPG's ever. I don't like the insinuation that what I think of a game comes down to when I first experienced it. That doesn't matter one bit to me. I think Pokemon Red/Blue are nowhere near as good as some of the more recent Pokemon games, and I played that the year it came out. Why should it matter when I played it?
-
Totally called it. It's totally OK to not like Ocarina, you know. He never said it was a bad game. He just said that to him, it's his worst 3D Zelda And I have the same opinion.
-
Might as well have just said "unless you're Glen-i". Around here, that's practically the same sentence! I'm just hoping I can scrounge 35 quid by Friday...
-
Right, before you get lambasted for this, I want to agree. Ocarina was revolutionary, yes. But it is my least favourite 3D Zelda. That said, it's still a great game! Worst 3D Zelda is still pretty damn good.
