Ah yes, I knew I forgot to mention something. You're right. Young Link is slightly different to the other Lucky Guesses. They guessed who he was and guessed the series, but couldn't be completely specific to what game he's from, and seeing as it's really obvious the character is "Link, but Younger", this is the only one I wanted something more specific. That would be interesting though to show them other versions of Ganondorf and Zelda though. Whatever picture you tried to show me just now.

Isabelle is literally the most popular Animal Crossing character because of the game she appeared in, she was always gonna get in over Tom. Shulk is from the first Xenoblade Chronicles. You can tell because he's got a British accent.

Strangely enough, I do have some idea of who's recognisable based on the kids who I play games with at the community centre. They range from 7-15 years old, so definitely out of our forum bubble. So I can make a tier list of sorts on who's cool with the young people these days. Because they already kinda know the characters from Smash 4, I can't really give a fair assessment with them. So I'm sticking with characters that weren't in the last game. This is based on their general reaction to their reveal for Ultimate, whether they recognise it from the Smash render and whether they can pinpoint what game/series they're from. "Oh, they're in it? Cool!" (Immediate recognition, majority know where it's from) Daisy, Piranha Plant, Squirtle, Incineroar, Inkling "You know, that guy, from that thing" (Some recognition, some know where it's from) Ivysaur, Pichu, Isabelle "That one nerd knows it" (One person got it, and no, it wasn't me) King K. Rool, Snake, Ken "Lucky Guess" (No-one knew who it was, but they could tell me where they're from) Young Link, Dark Samus, Wolf, Chrom "Literally, who?" (Total nobodies that no-one recognised) Ridley, Ice Climbers, Simon, Richter Yeah, Mario characters are in a whole different league to the rest, everyone knows them. The latest Pokémon series is shown on kids channels, so Incineroar is mostly known from that. The other Pokémon probably have GO to thank for their popularity. I had to stifle laughs when I showed Chrom's picture to them. Half of them thought it was Marth, but they knew it was Fire Emblem. Blue hair gives it away. Ridley surprised me though, they play Smash 4. They've played the Pyrosphere stage, they still didn't know who Ridley was. So yeah, thought that would be interesting to share, nowhere near conclusive, sure, but...

For what it's worth, Sakurai did say something along the lines of "Only buy the pass if you have confidence in it" It's not much, but it's something at least. I have total confidence in all of it. More characters and stages, the better, in my opinion.

I think @Dcubed's list is almost likely. Another two Mario characters is not happening though. Here's what I think. FE Three Houses Protagonist - Yeah, it's totally happening now. No way in hell this doesn't get advertised in Smash. Sticking with my original prediction here. BOTW character - With Ninty themselves suggesting characters, I'd be shocked if BOTW didn't worm it's way in. Kass would make a cool kind of Bard character. Although I'd be fine with any of the Champions. Except Urbosa, we already have a Gerudo and Swords are a bit overdone in Smash. Paper Mario - Kinda totally dependant on whether a new game is in the works. Or a port of Colour Splash, I guess that could work too. Gen 8 Pokémon (that isn't Meltan) - Gen 8 comes out next year. Perfect timing. I hope you're ready for the 11th Pokémon rep! Something third party - It's established by this point that Smash sells games. I can see it being a great bargaining chip to get some 3rd Party games on the Switch. Let's face it, those Final Fantasies aren't coming to Switch because Square just felt like it. The character won't be a Square one though. (Although Sora in Smash + Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.8 Switch ports would be pretty dope!)

I still think Assist Trophies have absolutely no hope in hell of getting in this roster. And I still think we're getting one third party. Smash can be an effective bargaining tool for getting games on the system. FE Switch is totes getting in though with this news. (Point for me! Woo!)

Me too, I never made many myself, but the ones I got from you and other N-Europer's made for some proper hilarity. Stamina Mode being a thing outside of Special Mode could have made some new possibilities in what kind of layouts you could make in Stage Builder. Great Smash Ball (The one RedShell made in the GIF above) is a genuine popular pick at my community centre that it's gonna upset quite a few kids when I have to tell them that there's no way to recreate it in Ultimate. Yes, I know. 103 stages is a great amount of stages that should help keep some variety going, but sometimes I want to have a stage that throws any semblance of balance out of the window. Sometimes I want to play on a stage that has a big massive insurmountable wall in the middle, and the only way to win is to grab the most S-Flags in 3 minutes. And how am I supposed to create a stage based around Tetris!? What am I gonna use the music for now? A proper stage!? That's boring!

That's gonna be a hard no from me. As a competitive player, this offers very little that interests me. The Nature Woman looks really useful though, so I hope that carries over to next year's game.

Smash Hype is a crazy thing. No way are stores gonna let that go cheaply. Combine that with Switch being popular and the dosh will just roll in. Getting it digital myself, the less faffing around with swapping games for Smash, the better.

Man, I knew the Shield could block a lot of projectiles, but I didn't realise it was that effective! I cracked up at Din's Fire and the Blast Boxes! Kinda reminds me of this.

Probably the same thing when he came up with this idea. Or that guy. Or my personal favourite. He's crazy imaginative and it wouldn't be Smash without the character no-one saw coming.
