I do disagree. I can't go back to old Game Boy Face Shrine without being reminded of the infinitely superior Switch version. Because holy crap, that remix is something special!

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (12 Feb 2021)
Glen-i replied to Ronnie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
If you have a Bowser amiibo, you can effectively summon Bowser with it. Made those a lot more bearable for me. Bowser's Fury was about 7% fun 3D World style gameplay, 93% boring open-world exploratory guff. Not a fan of it. Felt more like an expansion to Odyssey than 3D World. -
Yeah, yeah, good for you, @Dcubed, but you listen to me. If the next Fire Emblem game you tackle isn't Shadows of Valentia, I will punch you.

Wii Sports was weird because it used motion controls in 2006. These days, motion controls aren't as unexpected, so that's the difference between it and 1-2 Switch. NES Remix is weird because, well, what kind of genre does it fit? It doesn't neatly fit in anywhere really.

Oh, don't worry. Smash will still have a major presence. It'll just have to have some minor restrictions to character choice. See? Barely a change! No-one actually likes those 81 other bozos anyway.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light (4th December 2020)
Glen-i replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I just googled this, and I now agree with you. It's a very cool idea! -
@Ronnie first of all. Sushi Strikers is a 3DS game. And even so, I wouldn't count it. You're starting to lose track of what I mean by "Weird Nintendo" It's not just "Nintendo game that is weird", because that's most Nintendo games. I'm thinking of the kind of game that has some kind of input method or accessory that make you think. "Wait, really? But why?" Or even some concept that doesn't really fit into a typical genre. So ARMS is weird, but it's not "Weird Nintendo" as it's a (interesting) fighting game that's an evolution of Wii Sports Resort's Swordfighting. On the other hand, Lylat Wars with it's big vibrating block connected to your controller? That's "Weird Nintendo". Wii Sports, Wii Fit. R.O.B, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Mario Paint, Photo Dojo, WiiU's Gamepad, NES Remix, WarioWare (original, Twisted and Snapped), I could go on. So far, Switch has Ring Fit Adventure, Labo, and some of the games in 1-2 Switch (Real talk, it's just the HD Rumble stuff that fits) and that's about it. So to clarify, Snipperclips is another kind of puzzle game that focuses on co-op. Tetris 99 is online Tetris, which has been around for yonks, but with 99 people, and I'm pretty sure Atari developed it? Mario Kart Live is nowhere near the first time a real life toy has been used to influence a video game. AR has been around for years (I mean, it was a 3DS feature, for starters) and it's not even new ground for Nintendo, thanks to R.O.B. I actually thought that game was quite good. But I'd be amazed if any Marvel fan would believe me if I told them that Nintendo published it. It feels so not Nintendo!

That's slim pickings compared to previous consoles and you know it. And if you have to site Gooigi of all things to shore up the numbers, then that speaks volumes.

It's a spirit effect that means one of your stats has been increased. Some support spirits increase a stat until you get hit, or for a limited amount of time, or when you have 100% damage. If it's not a spirit, then it's something to do with the fight itself. When you select a spirit, it shows you who you're about to fight? Well, there's a description of what conditions to expect on the bottom left. Make sure you read them.

You're completely right on this point. We've seen barely any of "Weird Nintendo" this generation. The Switch might be a sales juggernaut like the Wii, but it lacks the unique experiences the white rectangle sported. One main reason I feel this is the case is because Ninty have been kinda coasting on WiiU ports. And even then, some of them have had their more unique aspects stripped out. New Super Mario U Deluxe is a prime example. The main meat of that game is there, but it lacks that node where 1 person used the Gamepad to place blocks and interact with the stage while 4 other people played through the game. It's a port that has had the uniqueness the WiiU brought to the table stripped out. It's the perfect metaphor for the Switch.

Everything I thought I knew was a lie...

The Hunting Horn shows you what each melody does and how to play it underneath the health bar! It even shows you when an effect has worn off, so you know when to reapply it. That combined with the trio melody makes it so much easier to manage! I can see why @RedShell was so successful with it now! Yeah, I've finally been able to try the demo. Gyro is amazing! Bowgun is so much more dynamic and fun to use now! I also really like Sword and Shield's new Backstep combo. I have a powerful attack to use on monsters that have been knocked over now! It's not quite as broken as Chaos Oil from Generations Ultimate, but it'll do!

Friend Codes, Fruit, Trading and Photo Thread For Animal Crossing
Glen-i replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
You do realise that you'd need a second one if you wanted to have the gold one and the normal one on your island at the same time, right? -
Well, that can't be true, because it never happened where I was. Boy, do I wish that was the case in real life.

I saw a suggestion about adding a Fury Bowser Hunt to Rise as a post-game update. And now I'm upset, because it's a great idea, and it'll never happen. Fury Bowser has an aesthetic that would work pretty well in MH Rise. It'd certainly look less goofy than regular Bowser. (Although, I wouldn't complain if that happened) Nintendo franchises defo have a good handful of creatures that wouldn't look that out of place in Monster Hunter. It worked well enough for Final Fantasy's Behemoth.

Main plot might be done, but I've been tackling the many optional fights that this game offers and one of them dropped a weapon that was unbelievable in how utterly broken it is. It leaves me with no doubt in that it's meant to be one of the best weapons in the game. Simply put, my strategy has boiled down to having Elvis adopt a counter stance, power up said counter stances so that he steals BP off of anyone who hits him and then use one of the Sub-Job abilities to protect everyone in the party, meaning the enemy has almost no choice but to hit Elvis, in which case, he only takes 20% of the damage, recovers any MP he spent, gets a BP, counters twice (50% chance that he whacks them three times), steals another BP off of whoever hit him, and might get powered up a bit from taking damage. This just snowballs into absurdity as Elvis gets all his BP back by the time his next turn comes around, and then I do it all again! This isn't even taking into account the fact that Gloria is keeping him alive with little difficulty, while Seth and Adelle are piling on the damage! Repeat until my inevitable victory. The mind boggles at what I can accomplish if I can get some more of these bonkers weapons on the other party members! I kinda have to find out how much I can break the game at this point!
-
@RedShell, you can tell your pets to wait with the Action Bar (D-Pad left and Right), they won't fight if you do that. More importantly, you can pet them when they're in that state. The Hunting Horn has always been a solid weapon in decent hands, those buffs go a long way. I find it too slow for my liking though, so I definitely appreciate stumbling across someone who's good with it.

Turnip Prices Thread - Playing The Market In New Horizons
Glen-i replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I've only spoiled turnips twice in New Horizons. Once to catch an ant, the second because the HHA told me I had rubbish in my house. I was outraged! I had nothing of the sort in my house! It was impeccable. Until I found there was one single turnip I overlooked because it was hidden behind some furniture... -
That's very reassuring. Looking forward to this even more now, if that was even possible.
-
Gyro capabilities alone has me considering using the Light Bowgun. Would be an amazing buff if the gyro is decent.
-
If it's any comfort, at least you won't miss out on inevitable Nintendo costumes.

Welp, Final Boss beaten. Here are some quick thoughts on non-plot stuff. (Seeing as I'm probably the only one here who has seen the plot at this point) - The Brave and Default system is still as fun as it was on the 3DS. The shift to a more ATB (Like Final Fantasy IV) style is an interesting dynamic change that kept things feeling fresh. - While I would say the jobs in this are more interesting to work with than the original game, Bravely Second's jobs are way more imaginative, subvertive and fun. There are hints of some of them in this game, but so many are left behind, that it's noticeable. - Holy crap, the music is so good! That Final Boss music is just unadulterated hype! Massive kudos to Revo on that front. - The biggest stroke against this game is the sheer amount of bosses that can counter certain actions. At first, I thought it was a cool idea to keep you on your toes. "Oh, this boss counters physical attacks, I should switch to a more magic based party." But sooner or later, you start seeing bosses that counter a wide variety of actions. The Thief asterisk fight is a startling wake-up call, as you're punished for attacking it, defaulting, healing, or applying buffs. And that kinda sets the tone for the rest of the game, there's no real method to avoid these, so you just have to deal with having bosses wail on you multiple times in one turn. It gets more manageable as you get more jobs, but it's still very annoying. - I think the difficulty of this game is too high, even on casual difficulty. I'm convinced that the game expects you to exploit the sheer power of a late-game "4 Freelancer party" to even see the credits. It's going to be a tough ride for newcomers to the Bravely Default series. If you're interested in jumping in, try and play the first 3DS game first. Anyway, I messed around a bit on New Game + and got a good laugh from an early moment. I very much enjoyed BD II, despite it's flaws. It's a good, if difficult, RPG.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong @Hero-of-Time, but was it actually impossible to have a group of 4 start a quest together in MHW because someone had to start a quest before anyone could actually join? Implementing Hunter Hubs that allow people to jump into a quest that's in progress is effectively the best of both worlds, right? I need to pre-order this. Now there's confirmation of a separate single player set of quests, I can enjoy MonHun and get all decked out, and then blitz through multiplayer once lockdown ends.

Yeah, like Cartman. Wasn't that retconned?

Nuh-uh, you're not bringing that stupid meme here. And also, you're claiming that Bowser is both parents by saying that.
