Have we ever NOT paid more than any other country for a games machine? I was a bit miffed at first, but to be honest this price is about right.

I'm betting PAL GameCube games will not work on the system, and freeloader doesn't function the best on US systems playing UK games. Trust me.

I've found one problem so far!

Unless the top-up cards aren't region coded, how if you live in another country can you top-up your top-up card if it's American?

Or do you think all top-up cards work around the globe?

I thought, you purchased say....2500 points for like £15 (like Xbox Live) Scratch away to reveal a code which you input and then it goes through onto the Wii!

Instead it's like a phone-top-up?

Am i right?

Ill see how much money i ahve nearer the US release, then ill decide wether to import or not. That, and it amy be a problem if i ahve to get a US game, because it's region locked.

I imported a Lite saving £25 so I want to import a Wii too, just its abit more complicated this time. Unguaranteed region-locks, power supply, wii points, swap games with friends.

But when you can import a Wii and 2 games for £190, its really tempting but its a lot of hasslehoff

as i already have JPN gamecube i not got to worry about power supply. all i got to worry about is getting a US or JPN machine on release day.

If I order from Videogamesplus.ca, will they charge me as soon as I order or when the Wii ships?

they give you the choice of both when ordering games.

For people import please be aware that even though Nintendo's games are region free, it is possible for 3rd party devs to put this lock on.

But yes we are paying alot more for the console! Im tempted but im just going to sit it out and extra few weeks. Rather than importing a console and if anythings wrong with it then im hardly going to be able to send it back

i would be more worried about having a pal machine mate to be honest. US and JPN games are cheaper and are released more quickly. so if 3rd party game are region locked i am not gonna be bothered.

not sure but online puchasing with credit/debit card won't be a problem.

I'm also weighing up the pros and cons of importing. I've imported before, ordering a JP Gamecube and DS Lite. I used Play Asia, and I had to pay import duty, which can sting. Not tried VGP though, my friend tells me they're great.

But importing games is pretty easy, I never had to pay any duty on them - they just get waved through customs. That saves quite a bit of money, even when taking delivery charges into account.

Bluejay is right; a Wii and two games for £190 is tempting. I did some calculations for my preferred package:

Wii (inc. Wii Sports)

Extra Wiimote + nunchuck (for Wii Sports)

Zelda

£258 on Play.com, but £192 on import (excluding delivery fee) - £66 difference. It sounds great, but it can turn nasty if you get caught in the VAT+import net.

Then there are the possible technical difficulties regarding using the Virtual Console service (i.e. payments) that Owen and others highlighted.

So my advice is to think very carefully first. There's only a tiny difference in US/UK prices for the Wiimotes and accessories thanks to Play.com, it's just the console itself (and the games to a lesser extent) that makes up the bulk of the added price.

Meh i was gonna import but then i thought i would just regret it 3 weeks later whent he PAL ones are out, also Gears of War, Sonic and PSU come out end of Novmber so i will have enough stuff to play.

I want and am going to import a wii if anyone knows of any good sites to get one from the united states please state!

I emailed nintendo and asked if it would be region free and they replied saying this

Dear Customer, thank you for your e-mail.

I am sorry but there are no confirmed technical details about the Wii at

the moment.

Kind regards,

Your Nintendo Team

So i guess this is a maybe.

Aha! So this casts a different light onto importing...

*tuts* Oh, Perrin... :nono:

So that means:

Get a US Wii and have to import games. But you can get English games faster and there are more on the VC.

Or get a EU Wii and be able to pick up things like special offers and second-hand games.

Right now I'm 50/50.

get uk as you can trade / ebay games easily. they hold their value

An excellent point. :) Once you get an import game, it's not as easy to trade/return if you hate it.

I'm really not sure if I'll import at all now that it's not region free. I was hoping on either getting a us console and uk games - only importing if I really had to or a uk console and us games so I could get them early - like excitetruck.

Now it looks like I'll be getting a uk wii and games.

Its not like we have to wait long between the US release and the European one. I would have imported if we didnt get the machine til 2007 but seeing as its only a few weeks then I will quite happily wait.
