Dante Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 8, 2009 Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ workout tops the All Formats Chart for a fifth consecutive week despite shedding 10% of sales and competition from new Warner Brothers title ‘F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin’ which debuts at No2. However, ‘F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin’ does manage to reach No1 in the Xbox 360 and PS3 Full Price charts and No2 on PC. It is Warner’s 2nd major multi-format video game release after ‘Lego Batman’, which also had to settle for 2nd place when it was launched in October last year (behind FIFA 09, but one place above Wii Fit). Released across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the critically acclaimed sequel becomes the fastest selling in the series with 50% of sales on Xbox 360, 31% on PS3 and 19% on PC. ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (+6%) slips one place to No4 but moves ahead of ‘FIFA 09’ which is down 3 places to No5. Nintendo still dominate the All Formats Top 10 with 5 games, including a strong second week for ‘Mystery Case Files: Millionheir’ up from No4 to No3 - sales up 25%. Out of the remaining Nintendo Top 10 regulars ‘Mario Kart Wii’ and ‘Wii Play’ are both non-movers at No’s 6 and 7 respectively, but ‘Professor Layton’ (-24%) suffers in the wake of possible heir apparent Mystery Case Files: Millionheir’s success – down from No5 to No9. Nintendo’s DS/Wii formats are even more dominant in the All Formats Top 10 thanks to another fitness game on Wii, the retailer promoted ‘My Fitness Coach’ from Ubisoft, up from No17 to No8. ‘Mario & Sonic’ (+22%) remains in the Top 10 despite a drop of one place to No10, meaning that it now consists of 7 Nintendo format exclusive games. Outside the Top 10 there are new entries for D3P’s ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ at No13 and Sega’s Wii gun game ‘The House of the Dead: Overkill’ at No15. Dante Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 8, 2009 Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ knocks ‘Wii Fit’ down to No2 in the All Formats Chart, becoming the fastest selling traditional beat ‘em up since the All Formats Chart began back in 1997. 53% of sales were on PS3 and 47% on Xbox 360, making it the biggest selling All Formats No1 of the year so far. February seems to be a good month for Capcom who have now had an All Formats No1 in February for the past 3 years (‘Devil May Cry 4’ in 2008 and ‘Lost Planet’ in 2007) and it can only get better for the cult Japanese publisher who will be celebrating 30 years in May, as they are due to release the highly anticipated ‘Resident Evil 5’ on March 13th. Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are up 20%, keeping it ahead of the next highest new entry, THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II’ on PC which debuts at No3. Publisher D3P enters uncharted territory as ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ becomes their first ever title to enter the All Formats Top 10, up from No13 to No4, ahead of ‘FIFA 09’, a non-mover at No5 and ‘Call of Duty: World of War’, down from No4 to No6. A new entry for Sega at No7 with ‘Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection’ means that unusually all Top 7 games are now from different publishers. Nintendo however are still a force to be reckoned with in the All Formats Top 10 with ‘Mario Kart Wii’ down from No6 to No8 and ‘Wii Play’ down from No7 to No9. After debuting at No2 last week, ‘F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin’ suffers in the face of strong competition from Xbox 360 and PS3 newcomers, down to No10. Another one of those newcomers is ‘Race Pro’ from Atari on Xbox 360, new at No13, one place behind a strong 2nd week from ‘Disney’s Bolt’, up from No40 to No12. Sales of Sega’s ‘House of the Dead: Overkill’ are up 30%, but with 4 new entries ahead of it in the All Formats Chart it remains at No15. ‘50 Cent: Blood on the Sand’ is the 5th and final All Formats Top 40 new entry. Dropped by Activision-Blizzard after its merger with Vivendi, the THQ published game debuts at No22, while the previous 50 Cent title (Bulletproof) debuted at No5. Dante Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 9, 2009 Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ is knocked out after round 1, only lasting one week at the top of the All Formats Chart – this week’s brand new No1 is Sony’s ‘Killzone 2’ on PS3. ‘Killzone 2’ becomes the 4th fastest selling Sony published title ever in the UK (2nd fastest on PS3 behind ‘GT5 Prologue’). It is Sony’s first All Formats No1 for almost two years: their last All Formats No1 was at the end of April 2007 with ‘God of War 2’ on PS2. With sales down 49%, ‘Street Fighter IV’ has to make way for a second first party new entry, dropping from No1 to No3, behind Microsoft’s RTS ‘Halo Wars’ which enters at No2. It might not be anywhere near the heights of its exalted predecessor ‘Halo 3’ (selling 17.6% of Halo 3’s record breaking launch week figure), but for a console strategy game spin-off it’s top of its field, outselling the next fastest selling Xbox 360 RTS title ‘Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars’, by almost 3 to 1. Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are down 11%, dropping from No2 to No4. In fact all the remaining Top 10 games lose sales apart from Nintendo’s ‘Professor Layton’ which jumps back into the Top 10 at No5, boosted by renewed stock. The All Formats Top 5 is dominated this week by single format exclusives from each first party publisher with only ‘Street Fighter IV’ available on more than one format (Xbox 360 and PS3). ‘Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection’ also on Xbox 360 and PS3 and also sporting a retro appeal moves up one place to No6, sales only down 4% on its launch week. Former All Formats No1 sparring partners ‘FIFA 09’ (-24%) from EA and Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (-21%) are neck and neck at No’s 7 and 8 respectively, while last week’s high flier ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ (-29%) from D3P falls 5 places to No9, ahead of ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (-22%) at No10. The only other new release to make the All Formats Top 40 is Konami’s ‘Silent Hill: Homecoming’ at No11, getting a march on Capcom’s famous survival horror blockbuster ‘Resident Evil 5’, due for release on March 13th. Dante Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 10, 2009 Sega snatch No1 from Sony’s ‘Killzone 2’ as ‘Empire: Total War’ becomes the first PC exclusive All Formats No1 since ‘Football Manager 2008’ (also published by Sega) back in October 2007. The latest instalment in the highly rated ‘Total War’ series is the fastest selling, recording almost twice as much in its launch week as either top seller ‘Rome: Total War’ or ‘Medieval II: Total War’ and is the only one to reach No1 in the All Formats Chart. Sales of Sony’s ‘Killzone 2’ are down 58%, dropping to only 1,600 units behind Sega’s chart topper. Nintendo are also not far behind as ‘Wii Fit’ enjoys a 31% surge in sales, pushing it up one place to No3. Ubisoft has to settle for No4 with ‘Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X’ debuting at No2 in the PS3 and Xbox 360 charts behind ‘Killzone 2’ and ‘Halo Wars’. ‘Halo Wars’ slips 3 places to No5 (-54%), while ‘Professor Layton’ continues to sell well despite dropping one place to No6 (+12%). Previous holders of the All Formats No1 occupy the next three spots as Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ (-59%) slides from No3 to No7, ‘FIFA 09’ (-7%) is down one place to No8 and ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (-7%) also drops one place to No9. The All Formats Top 10 is rounded off by D3P’s ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ with the only other Top 40 new entry ‘Mario Power Tennis’, released on Wii with ‘new play control’ (play classic Gamecube games with the Wii remote / nunchuck), appearing at No23. Dante Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 11, 2009 ‘Resident Evil 5’ blasts to the top of the All Formats Chart, becoming the fastest selling game in the franchise and Capcom’s biggest ever launch. The game that defined the survival horror genre when released on the original Playstation in 1996 is now more popular than ever, but it is the franchise’s debut on Microsoft’s format, which claims 55% of sales while PS3 accounts for 45%. ‘Resident Evil 5’ is the largest All Formats No1 since Call of Duty: World at War’s second week back in week 47 2008. It manages to surpass FIFA 09’s Christmas No1 week and represents 27.1% of all revenue from console games this week. In fact sales of Resident Evil 5 are slightly more than the combined sales of all the remaining All Formats Top 10 titles. As ‘Resident Evil 4’ had a staggered launch over 2 years across Gamecube, then PS2, then Wii and finally PC, it is hard to compare. However, RE5 on PS3 has outsold RE4’s PS2 launch week by 3.22 to 1. Last week’s No1 ‘Empire: Total War’ drops 7 places to No8 (sales down 70%), but Sega’s other Top 10 title ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ benefits from a retailer promotion, jumping 7 places to No10. All other Top 10 titles lose sales, including ‘Wii Fit’ at No2 and Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X.’ at No3, both up 1 place, but sales falling by 14% and 19% respectively. ‘Professor Layton’ makes the most of the downturn in recent releases such as ‘Killzone 2’ and ‘Halo Wars’, jumping 2 places to No4 despite a 20% drop in sales. ‘Killzone 2’ (-53%) slips 3 places to No5, staying ahead of last year’s blockbusters ‘FIFA 09’ (-12%) at No6 and ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (-12%) at No7. ‘Halo Wars’ suffers a 60% drop in sales, but clings on to the All Formats Top 10 at No9, ahead of the next highest new entry this week, Sony’s PS3 ‘Socom: Confrontation’, new at No11. Dante Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 12, 2009 ‘Resident Evil 5’ remains at the top of the All Formats Chart this week despite a 52% drop in sales following its highly successful launch. Nintendo are also a non-mover at No2 with ‘Wii Fit’ (-9%) enjoying a prolonged period of steady sell through. At launch ‘Resident Evil 5’ outsold ‘Wii Fit’ by 5 to 1, but in its second week the gap has narrowed to 2.7 to 1. Nintendo also chart at No3 with ‘Professor Layton’ up one place to No3 from No4. This week’s highest new entry goes to THQ and ‘WWE Legends of Wrestlemania’, new at No4 with sales split relatively evenly across PS3 and Xbox 360. After 2 Grand Theft Auto games on PSP, Rockstar’s iconic franchise arrives on DS this week for the first time. ‘Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars’ is new at No6, selling around half of previous handheld GTA title GTA: Vice City Stories’ launch week. A retailer promotion on ‘Street Fighter IV’ (+48%) helps it re-enter the Top 10, up from No13 to No7, giving Capcom two Top 10 games this week. However, Nintendo make it 3 Top 10 games thanks to the Mother’s Day promoted, turquoise DS Lite Starter Pack, which shoots ‘Brain Training’ (+117%) back into the Top 10, up from No21 to No8. There are 3 new releases that don’t make the Top 10 – ‘Singstar Queen’ at No22, ‘Scrabble Interactive: 2009 Edition’ at No27 and ‘Madworld’ at No34. D_prOdigy Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 My God MadWorld, you better have legs. We bought Overkill where the US failed at life; why can't we do the same for this? Hopefully it's just because of the might of Resi 5.
ShadowV7 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Damn you UK Hope the rest of Euroland sold a fair amount.
Emasher Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I think MadWorld will end up being that kind of game that picks up in sales due to word of mouth. What were the US sales like?
Ren of Heavens Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Decent Chinatown Wars sales, but very dissapointing MadWorld sales. I think it needs to break 1 million copies worldwide to change other developers minds about the Wii and so-called mature games.
D_prOdigy Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I think MadWorld will end up being that kind of game that picks up in sales due to word of mouth. What were the US sales like? I'm pretty sure it got into the top 10. VGChartz tacked sales at about 60,000, but they can be known to overtrack and undertrack on most occassions. Still, all things said, MadWorld will certainly sell more than any of Clover's games.
Fierce_LiNk Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Why on Earth are madworlds sales so low!?! Honestly, I think it'll pick up. I've seen the advert for it quite a lot on the telly, and as Emasher says, when people buy it and praise it, it could help influence other people to pick it up.

Dante Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 13, 2009 Capcom’s ‘Resident Evil 5’ clings to the top of the All Formats chart for a third consecutive week despite a 51% drop in sales, positioning it ahead of a resilient ‘Wii Fit’, also a non-mover at No2. ‘Resident Evil 5’ equals ‘Resident Evil 3’ as the longest serving title in the series to remain at No1 in the All Formats chart, both with 3 weeks at the top. Capcom manages to capitalize on an absence of any new releases making the All Formats Top 10 with a 2nd week of price promotion on ‘Street Fighter IV’ boosting sales by 7% and launching it to No3, up from No7. Nintendo’s ‘Professor Layton’ isn’t far behind, down from No3 to No4, suffering a 40% fall in sales, but staying ahead of THQ’s ‘WWE Legends of Wrestlemania’ which is also down 1 place, slipping from No4 to No5. ‘Wheelman’ co-published by Ubisoft and Midway misses out on an All Formats Top 10 debut, new at No11. Last year’s blockbusters ‘FIFA 09’ and ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ and even 2007’s Christmas No1 ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ are the Top 10’s star performers this week. Both ‘FIFA 09’ and Call of Duty: World at War’ are up 3 places to No’s 6 and 7 respectively, while ‘COD 4’ manages an All Formats Top 10 reappearance at No9, up from No15. The last time it made the All Formats Top 10 was back in week 23 2008. ‘Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars’ drops 2 places in its 2nd week, down to No8, while Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X.’ has its wings clipped, perched precariously at No10, down from No5. There are re-entries for ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2009’ at No22 and ‘Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3’ at No25 thanks to the release of the Wii version of PES and PS3 version of C&C. D_prOdigy Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I don't really think many people expected it to go up Charts can be deceiving though. It only fell to 8 from 6 on the Wii Chart (and intruigingly, Overkill creeped up past it at 7).
Goron_3 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Oh no poor Madworld Any moment we can expect the fanboys to come in and say 'it had a graphical style that doesn't appeal to people' but as soon as a new game gets announced and is getting slammed for its graphics the same people will claim 'the wii has less horsepower so you need to have a different art style to attract people'. Eugh. Brilliant game too
ShadowV7 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 What I don't get is the top games in the Wii charts don't correspond to the individual/all format charts. Say in the charts the top five games sold that week were a,b,c,d and e, wouldn't they need to be in that order in the ind/all format? A sold more than b, b more than c etc, yet there's f,g,h ahead of them in the ind/all format, but the sold less according to the Wii charts so they should be worse than a,b,c,d and e if you get me.
Retro_Link Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 According to VGChartz.com Madworld has sold 12,000 copies in Europe! and with 60,000 in the US a grand total of 70,000 copies! The 'hardcore' Wii owners that didn't buy this have only got themselves to blame now, because there are enough of them out their!
