Atomic Boo Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 http://www.gamefaqs.com They are asking for your vote on the best gaming series. Place your opinion
dabookerman Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Final fantasy zelda final. Why do they even bother.
Cube Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Its gonna be Link Vs Cloud all over again. Why don't they put them close to each other next time?
Zell Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 How about asking us what the best gaming series is apart from FF and Zelda?
Hero-of-Time Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I actually have Super Mario Bros. series for the win.
The Bard Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Shoulda been the Chrono Series ! But, if it's between FF and Zelda, then it's Final Fantasy all the way.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Shoulda been the Chrono Series ! But, if it's between FF and Zelda, then it's ZELDA all the way. Fixed it for you.
Cube Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 How about asking us what the best gaming series is apart from FF and Zelda? Because most regulars to the site will moan asking where FF and Zelda are.
KKOB Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 THE LEGEND OF ZELDA!!!!! final fantasy can feck off-theres too many duds in the series unlike zelda im voting everyday too, surprised about the smash bros win lol
triforce_keeper Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I agree with takeo the legend of zelda is classic!
The Bard Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Too many duds?? There's not a single bad game in the FF main series. Granted, X-2 was balls, but from 3 onwards (perhaps with the exception of X. In the Zelda series theres only 2 games I've really really enjoyed: A Link to the Past and Wind Waker. But then again, this is a nintendo forum, so my argument is futile.

The Bard Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The difference being of course, that there are more final fantasy games than Zelda games. And with 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 being absolute classics, theres really no competition. Still, I still reckon Chrono should have been in there somewhere 3 wasn't a dud, seeing as I've played the 90% english version of it and it's bloody great.
KKOB Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 hmm cool, in my opinion FF 8 aint all that FF7s alright and FF 9 is fun FF 10 was a lil 'meh' FF X-2 was funny and a wise decision to make it so female oreintated lol i think theres been 11 full Zelda games (exculding GBA's four swords): zelda, zelda 2, links awakening, LTTP, ocarina, majoras mask, oracle of ages, oracle of seasons, four swords, four swords adventures, wind waker and minish cap. then theres twilight princess and phantom hourglass and like i said with the exception of the first two all of them are very playable today and great fun the series has a consistantly very high quality and i cant see that ending anytime soon.
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The interesting thing is, both the FF games and Zelda games don't follow a 'strict' timeline. So, in that sense, can they really be classed as a series? I mean, we still have many fans on this forum trying to make sense of the Zelda timeline. There have been many different interpretations, but never one solid official one. I love the Zelda games, but i don't really think of them as a series. A series, imo, is something which is continuous and follows on, linking into the past 'episode'. *runs from pitchforks*
KKOB Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 by series i think we mean IP but even then, the FF games are almost all completly isolated from each other but have similar themes, and gameplay. where as the zelda games share most of the same characters and gameplay. i personally dont try and make sense of it all and if i have to-like with the wind waker following on from ocarina- i usually think of the rest of them as happening in a parallel universe where different things have hapened in the past.
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 i usually think of the rest of them as happening in a parallel universe where different things have hapened in the past. That's how i think of it. Personally, i think each Zelda is individual. I regard a series like Resident Evil as a series because each game leads into each other. Zero leads into 1, 1 leads into 2 and 3, etc. With the Zelda games, i don't think you have that. It seems to be much more individual, imo. Each game is a seperate adventure, but you may see the same characters and enemies. Definitely like a parallel universe.
Guest Jordan Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Final Fantasy 7 is rose tinted to hell. The fact is, that game had a million clichés not to mention Seprioth is a tool... lets be honest about it. I very much enjoyed FF9, mostly due to its cast of characters and the art style used. Apart from FF:CC its the only one I finished.
Pit-Jr Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 both series are beginning to feel stale IMO, just because there have been so many sequels with little changes. I do think Zelda tries to mix it up more though (Zelda 2, Majoras Mask, Four Swords). so barring these two, id go with Castlevania and Metroid
Kaeporagaebora Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 It depends on the question. Quality of games, or amount of good games. If it's amount of good games, I think mario takes it, for sheer massive size of series. Although they're not all connected, there are many, many good mario titles. But what about pokemon? If you can get past the "look at how cute we are!" visuals, the main games are all very good. Zelda's still the best, though.
The Bard Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Yeah, I'd rather go for Metroid than either of those two. Also: yeah, I think the Pokemon series was the series that has given me the most enjoyment.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I was suprised that Pokemon got knocked out by Metroid. I like the Metroid games but it takes a great deal of motivation to actually play them where Pokemon has the magic touch of being able to pick it up and play for a few mins here and there. I suppose its because its a handheld game though.
Cube Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I'm rooting for Zelda. Mainly cos I hate Final Fantasy (as I do most turn-based games).
