AshMat Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Im looking for a good RTS to pass the time, im thinking of getting Generals & Zero Hour. Would anyone recommend another RTS for me? Ty in advance.
BGS Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Starcraft! I wish they'd re-release a high res version of this actually.
AshMat Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 Thanks so far guys, but im looking for a more recent one, better graphics and all that shiz...
Ginger_Chris Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Generals (with wero hour) Fun fast paced gameplay, good mix of units, zero hour is required. C&C Timberian Dawn (old) Awesome, still one of my favourite games ever. Awesome story, gameplay. C&C Red Alert (old) Same as above, ut slighly less good due to the lack of tiberium story/universe. Age of Empire 3 Again fast placed gameplay, good online. More fun that 1 and 2. Homeworld (the origional-old) (Cataclysm expansion is pretty good too) 1st 3D stratagy, very good. looks a bit old but if you like space battles then you'd like this. Homeworld 2: Not as good as origional, but more user friendly and looks really pretty. Best looking space battles of any game. Rome Total War: Possibly the best stratagy game at the moment. I cant wait for the sequel. Huge battles, and turn based overworld campaign. You have to install the total realism mod for the full glory of this game (better gameplay/graphics). If you havent played it and like stratagy I'd definaterly reccomend this over any others. Black and white (origional): Less stratagy like than sequel but i think its much better. Your a god, you have a creature, you try and train it, look after villags, try and convert other villages. miricles etc. Its all about the creature though, and the singing boaties. Dungeon Keeper (origional): Good laugh for a few hours, becomes stale eventually but is really funny. Great sense of humour. Being able to control our creature is a good feature. Battlezone (origional, sequel is terrible) Possible the BEST game i have ever played. Its a first person stratagy (not so much statagy and most of these). Loads of fun, still looks pretty decent graphics wise (especially with patches). Possibly the best story/concept of any game. I'd definaterly recomend it, but its a straagy hybrid so you might not like it. (plus its hard to find a copy of)
AshMat Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 Cheer chris, loads of help, i have black & white though, awesome game The singing boaties are annoying, they expect to get all their stuff sitting around singing
Ginger_Chris Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 If you liked the first one you could try the sequel. Its pretty good, but not a patch on the origional (but some people like it more). The armies are ok, but theres not much stratagy to it. You creature is much better looking, and the creature fights are much more awesome (but not player controlled). However the AI is "fixed", so you have more control over your creature but it feels more robotic than before. You never get the bugs which gave the creature its personality (due to the fact you didnt exactly know if you were punishing/awarding it for the right thing). Theres loads less miricals, but they are more powerful/multi-purpose in the sequel. Its good, just not a s great as the first one. Btw check out the trailers for Supreme Commander. They look so unbelievably good. I cant wait for it.
AshMat Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 I was going to get BW2, but it looked wy too different to the first, does it have as awesome of a storyline?
Bluejay Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Warhammer Dawn of War. I don't like Warhammer but I love this game. Warcraft 3, kinda old though.
Ginger_Chris Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Storylines pretty average, there isnt much on one besides the origional setup, your a god fortjhe greeks rebuilding there former empire by battle the aztecs and there armies. Thats about the full story. Its more like sim city than an RTS
The-Ironflame Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Er what is this Timberian dawn you were going on about? Don't you mean Tiberian Sun? Also no way Age of empires 3 is as good as the prequels.
Guest Jordan Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Dawn of War, totally. And get the expansion Winter Assualt. Also, C&C Generals: Zero Hour is awesome.
Ginger_Chris Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Tiberian Dawn is the origional game. It wasn't sold with the name, it was just called command and conquer, but its known on the net as Tiberian Dawn to distinguish it from the other C&C games. Age of Empires 3 is now better than the origionals. When they came out they were amazing games, but they dont play very well when you play them now. AOE 3 wasnt such an amazing game when it came out, but its the best becasue the other two havent done too well with time. I recently layed the first one and it lack so many features that have almost become necessary. Its like playing Dune 2, it was unbelievably amazing when it came out, but now its really hard to play (mainly just t the lack of group select). Go nostalga.
Shino Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Didn't know there were so many people playing C&C Generals: Zero Hour. It would be awesome if anyone would want to play online.
BGS Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Its like playing Dune 2, it was unbelievably amazing when it came out, but now its really hard to play (mainly just t the lack of group select). Go nostalga. Ahh Dune 2 is a freaking awesome game. had it on the megadrive and it kicked arse big time back in the day.
gaggle64 Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Dawn of War and the Winter Assualt expansion. A massive, endless orgy of battle, but with a solid base bulding and tech race at the core of it. Multiplayer is superb fun. Rome Total War is also amazing - a wide variety of interesting factions, and a deep campaign mode which goes on for ever.
Guest Stefkov Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 C&C erd alert is wha ti thnk i had and was a great game, the voice acting was the best in it. i dont think ive played very many RTs pc games so id only recomend that, even though its old, AOE 2 was pretty good so im guessin AOE3 will live up to its standards and from the screens i saw it looks damn good.
Haden Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Just a side note what kind of specs do you guys think MTW 2 will need? Will 3ghz 1gb ram and radeon 9800 be enough?
AshMat Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 Ok, ill be gettin CC:Zero Hour for def. ill have a look at dawn of war-winter assault thingy too. (The supremem commander trailer is rather nice looknig btw)
Guest Jordan Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Anyone who says AoE3 is better than 2 is a fool! >_> AoE3 is horribly slow, clunky and boring. AoE2 was super super fun.
Meik Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Fuck graphics, Starcraft is still the best RTS out there.
BGS Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Yeah, I'm replaying Starcraft now. Only complaint is I wish I could select more units at once and view it all in a higher resolution.
Ginger_Chris Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Anyone who says AoE3 is better than 2 is a fool! >_>AoE3 is horribly slow, clunky and boring. AoE2 was super super fun. Are you talking about slow graphics wise or slow gamplay wise? because if its slow graphics wise it's not a fair arguement (games have recommended system requirements for a reason), and nothing is slow gameplay wise after you've had to have fought through 20-30 castles on an online game before you beat someone in AOE2. I like the fast placed gameplay of AOE3, and the homecity is definaterly a major improvement, especially online. Its definaterly a solid RTS. 2 had a better single play campaign(s) (by far). 3 has much better multiplayer/skirmish. On the other hand, I am a fool
AshMat Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Bought CC:Generals Deluxe last night (comes with zero hour), cheers guys
