Charlie Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 "The latest issue of Time Magazine reports that Nintendo is underway with a Wii version of tennis. It is not yet known if this game will be a Mario Tennis entry or something entirely separate. A reporter for Time played a demo of the game and loved it so much that Nintendo had to pry the controller from his hands, in his own words. In the tentatively titled Wii Tennis, the free-hand style controller becomes a racket, enabling gamers to deliver forehanded and backhanded smacks. Time reports that the "sensors are fine enough that you can scoop under the ball to lob it, or slice it for spin." "
Jay Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 There's a screen of this from the new EGM, looks like Mario Tennis with realistic characters as opposed to the Mario characters. Looks nice... http://www.infendo.com/uploaded_images/timescans-727882.jpg
djamb3 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Mario tennis from gba and gbc has realistic characters so this can still be mario tennis. A tittle to look forward to in next times...
Retro_Link Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 That looks awesome! It does look very Mario Tennis! I wonder if that's a demo version of the game for E3 and it might change to Mario Tennis later. It doesn't matter either way, the game will be great and maybe it's a good idea to have a break from the Mario Sports titles for a while!

Hero-of-Time Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Using the Wii controller as a racket is going to make this game hilarious.
Jay Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Realistic characters? Well, if you consider your avatar realistic, then yeah, I guess it is. You know what I meant. Realistic characters as in human characters as opposed to Mario characters.
Hero-of-Time Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Doesn't look that amazing, people. Im not bothered how its going to look. Swinging the controller as a tennis racket has sold me.
... Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Doesn't look that amazing, people. I agree with this man. But tennis games aren't my thing either way, so...
blender Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 its a tech demo surely or maybe a downloadable game. Either way it does not take much effort to add mario and a koopa crowd. But surely there must be some sports game for release like golf or tennis as they will work so well
ThePigMarcher Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Could this possibly morph into the next installment of Mario Tennis I wonder ? At the least it just shows further proof of how revolutionary the controllers are going to be.
MachRider Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 This "Tennis game" is just a tech demo. Look at the surrounding scenery graphics, and the characters made of basic shapes like cones, spheres etc. This is just the demonstration of the real game that will undoubtly come down the line. And will probably be Mario themed since both N64 and GC versions were huge success. The important thing is that maybe we'll have demos like this preinstalled on the Wii, or available for download. That would be nice.
ndreamer Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 yeah maybe it can be a simple vc game, hell for a few dollars ill pick it up. could be great fun even in it's current form.
